Tender ToesBly jumped when she head something crashing through the branches in front of her. She set down her weaved basket and took a small dagger out from the side of her boot. Bly was just a young girl, experienced at gathering, but inexperienced at everything else. She had never ventured too far from her village, and didn't know what to do if she were put in a situation were daggers were useful for more then just harvesting. She tightened her grip on the blade, the sweat from her palms made it harder to dictate where the tip was pointing. Before her was a steep, grassy hill, the top of which she could not see. The further away from the village, the thicker the forest.
Bly heaved and took a step away from her gathering basket, towards the noise. She cheeks were stiff from clenching her jaw. Whatever was there, it had stopped moving. Maybe it was watching her.
Bly wrapped her knuckles tight around the dagger and jumped at the bushes. She pushed the branches out of the way with her free hand and got ready to jab with the other. Before her, however, wasn't anything worth attacking. It was just an egg. Something had pushed it over the crest of the hill, and here it had landed. Bly checked her surroundings and picked up the small, unborn creature. She was familiar with Adahy eggs, but this one seemed slightly off. It had a texture almost like blades of grass.
Bly set the colorful thing in her gathering basket, cushioned by mushroom heads and herb leaves. She smirked at herself for fearing something so innocent, then prepared to walk back to her village. As she turned, a mournful howl filled the air.
She told her Tribe about finding the being after it tumbled down the hill, and she told them of the painful shout that followed it. They advised her to leave it at the border of the village, less the beast that lost it came to reclaim it. Bly obeyed, but did her best to protect the creature from the elements that may beat it while it waited to be found, and hide it under some thick leaves. They did, after all, just have a hurricane blow through. If it was not claimed in three days, the Tribe agreed, they would not risk the creatures health, and would then take it in.
Tender Toes would be raised by the humans.
(Bly; "Tall")::Character development::Personality: Tender Toes is confident short term, uneasy long term. She's not entirely sure where she is headed in life, and she doesn't spend a lot of time wondering about the big questions "what is life's purpose", or "why do we exist". Instead she lives life to the fullest, always aiming to be happy and carefree. When she meets some one, she is outgoing and friendly. Always on the move, Tender Toes is thinking about today, not tomorrow.
History: Tender Toes' parents, At'eed and Yuma, came from a small superstitious community native to land south of the Overlook. Rituals, ceremonies, and even sacrifices took place on the edge of the Dead Land. For fear of upsetting the Gods they owed everything to, this small community never ventured into the Dead Land. To do so was travesty. They were small and weak in numbers, and believed they had not yet died out solely due to the fact that the Gods were pleased with the offerings they provided.
Tender Toe's father's father was one of the only elders in the group. He was adored by the others and treated as a High Priest. When his first son was born, Yuma, the community had very expectations that he would one day lead them as his father did. The birth rituals were preformed and the Gods agreed, the newborn was blessed. Yuma grew surrounded by praise and love, and eventual found his mate, At'eed.
They had their first child together, who was granted the name Tender Toes during her birth ritual. The group believed she would one day grow to be sure footed- a fast, confident gatherer who would help the community thrive. A child of Yuma and At'eed must be, after all, a great help to the community. At'eed herself had a humble, but productive background of pulling the group through many troubling times. She was a very efficient gatherer, she had provided many offerings for the Gods.
During the summer migrattion around elephant graveyard, Yuma's father presented the egg of Tender Toes to the heavens. They were at the southern most part of the boundary when it happened. A ferocious storm shot down from the clouds. They group lost an elder, and two newborns during the hurricane-a substantial hit for such a small community.
The High Priest casted the egg (Tender Toes) out of the community. He scolded his son for having taken part creating such an abomination, and sacrificed the mother to the Gods. Yuma was catatonic after being forced to watch the murder of his love. He knew his devote family had nothing to apologize for. He became enraged at the Gods and spent the night raving and thrashing around the camp site. In the morning, the community had lost an entire family. Yuma had banished himself and rushed into the heart of the Dead Land, eager to find and die at the feet of the Gods who had ruined him.
