I had to rescue a filly I sold to a client, along with the client's 2 other horses, this week.
It's been 2 days since they got here. The first night they drank 1/2 the water trough down. I noticed when I p/them/u that the fillies were tied out w/o water. The grey was basicly doing w/e she wanted. There was a pond available to her. (It had steep sides, man made.) The filly drank her bucket down last night, she was in a stall. I watched her pee this AM and it was cloudy. They have free choice mineral (loose) and a salt lick. I'm going to watch the salt content and go from there, might add more salt to their feed if things don't clear up by the AM.
My filly is already filling out. I think the main problem with the horses is dehydration. They did have 24/7 grass at the owner's property. It wasn't quality and the fillies are growing/the grey needs more maintenance than sparse grass.
I cleaned the 2 fillies up yesterday morn. The pinto is 4 yrs old. She has no respect for personal space. She is very laid back and easy going though. She's never been in a trailer, clipped, stood tied, been in a stall - until she met me. She hasn't fussed a bit. Well, maybe a little at the clippers but that was just b/c she didn't want to stand still.

The horses feet were done on 9/12 by a farrier in the Lake City, FL area called "Cowboy". This is the farrier that has been caring for them for the past 2 yrs BTW.
I cleaned the grey mare up and this is what we found. Before you look, I did post these pics to a Farrier Only board and got positive, encouraging feedback. Remeber, we have an appt with the vet Sat. We will go from there.
I'll link you to all the pics we took last night of these feet.
3 of them look like this:

She is NOT lame. ....I am beside myself with disgust right now.
On a happy note, I made the mares a nice big grass paddock where they can heal from halter rubs and learn to trust (come to the fence when they see me) again. I think they are starting to look good...the only one I'm worried about it the Pinto. She just seems to be here, not much of a personality yet.
I will update you guys again after we see the vet.
----everyone please know that if this horse was in pain I wouldn't be championing for her. I know she has a fighting chance at 100% recovery but it's going to take time. She is a nice mare that got a tough break.
