I'm sure the question was answered perfectly for you by now but here are a few more options.
3nodding If you are not in the military already you can always become a contractor and can be overseas as long as you want...with better pay and living conditions. I have a buddy in Iraq who has been living on base for 3 years now.
If you are in the military and are sent overseas you can list to extend. There were 5 people who I went to Iraq with who are still there simply cause they need the extra money. They were able to stay on tour for 6 extra months.
..... Hawaii is not bad, you will just get bored of it.
