Not to be rude, but to be completely honest, I think your information of "faeries" is all wrong. The seriously do not go around dancing in too-toos playing wooden flutes. And they don't even call themselves "faeries".

And I say this with all the respect in the world, but from personal insight and experience, the people you call "faeries" aren't as legendary as you think. Yes, they are real, but that image of tiny little women running around naked with silvery wings or something of the sort is an erronious one. They are actual people and I've yet to hear of an elf that's shorter than 5'11. Believe it or not, they live with us and we don't even notice. Their only problem is that they can't be in their true form in this realm so they take on the form of a human.

Gladly. The names humans developed for these creatures are mostly incorrect. You see, we are all born with a true form. To find your true form you have to either astro-project to another realm where the human form can't survive or project yourself fully physically, which is almost impossible for most. There is a possibilty that among a group of friends you may have someone who's true form is elvin and the rest of your friends will be completely different creatures. Few people know their true form.
There are creatures from other realms that visit here from time to time, although they quite hate it here. They usually just use subconscious materialization which is pretty much the equivalent of astro-projection. They are souls just like we are, but are a bazillion times more powerful.
This may sound a bit farfetched for a lot of people, so I don't expect anyone to believe it, but what I speak is the truth I know. You take it as you wish.

It is a good review of the Fae, but I know all that was mentioned. I have several books on the Fae and working magick with them. I do applaude you for posting. I spend hours looking up the ancient myths and legends of the Fae because I believe in them. I know it sounds crazy, but I see them out of the corner of my eye everytime I'm in my garden.

for all my takes on fairies, find my threat about what I called old elves. It is in discussion.
Basically, a word of warning. quite recently, a few people have told me that they have discovered that my true form would be the one of a troll,. so I am somewhat biased. Plus, any more belly rubbing goodness about how nice and good elves are might get the elf-kin out their even more swollen heads.
So, in all honesty, I cann not understand why you place Trolls in any kind of relationship with elves. Trolls, as far as the european legends go, have been pretty good stonemansons, built the cathedral of trondheim, and are allways depicted closer to the realm of giants then "puny" fairies. Plus, they rock so much more then any elves or fairies, at least in my opinion...
So, since my opinion is clearly stated in my thread about elves, let me begin with listing a few bad sides of trolls.
From a nice piece of folklore....
Troll kalla mik tungl sjötrungnis, auðsug jötuns, élsólar böl, vilsinn völu, vörð náfjarðar, hvélsvelg himins – hvat's troll nema þat?
They call me Troll; Gnawer of the Moon, Giant of the Gale-blasts, Curse of the rain-hall, Companion of the Sibyl, Nightroaming hag, Swallower of the loaf of heaven. What is a Troll but that?
(a female troll explains to a traveller what she is)
so, in the european sense, there are two kinds of trolls.
The first one are the Jætte Trolls
This kind of Troll, also known as the true troll, is large, brutish and a direct descendant from the Norse jötnar. They are often pictured as ugly or having beastly features like tusks or cyclopic eyes. wich I personally see as a bit of slander, but it is the typical description of a of troll in Norway. As a general rule, what would be called a "troll" in Norway would in Denmark and Sweden be a "giant" (jætte or jätte, related to jötunn/jotunn in Jotunheimen). See why I think Trolls are much more giants?
In the norse fairytales and legends trolls are less the people living next to humans. or even "helpfull" and more frightening, vicious creatures. Particularly in these tales they come in any size and can be as huge as giants or, in case of the more southern /danish critters, as small as dwarfs. They are often regarded as having poor intellect (especially the males, whereas the females may be quite cunning), great strength, big noses, long arms, and as being hairy and not very beautiful (Once again, females often constitute the exception, with female trolls frequently being comely). In Scandinavian fairy tales trolls sometimes turn to stone if exposed to sunlight, a myth generally attributed to pareidolia found in naturally eroded rock outcrops.
In some Norwegian accounts, such as the middle age ballade Åsmund Frægdegjevar, the trolls live in a far northern land called Trollebotten – the concept and location of which seems to coincide with the Old Norse Jötunheimr.
So, let's get it together: Trolls in general are hairy , strong, most of the time big and not that much of quick thinkers, with the females being quite oftewn stunningly goodlooking. Oh yes, I like my women big, beautifull and brainy......
P.S. if you think this post is flamebait or offensive, I will take it down. But since the elves/fairies got so much good PR, I think it is about time to level the stakes. P.P.S. Would be quite interested to get some magick done with elves, and possibly with the trolls. If you have any info, or any desire to teach, please, let me know.

some of this mythology is ficticious in origin, some is cultural. In incorporating fairies into a personal path is i find, very difficult, because of all the closed cultures the mythology often originates from

SelenaMoon Organization of faeriesScotlandFairies can also be divided into the Seelie court and the Unseelie court. The Seelie court, or the blessed court, a group of rather beneficial spirits, is friendly towards humans. The Seelie Court are some of the more aristrocratic faeries, and are known as tropping, or heroic faeries. Scottish folklore presents them as a huge host of light and benevolence riding on the night air. The Unseelie Court or Unblessed Court contains the most malicious, malevolent and evil of the faeries, and a number of monsters of horrible appearance and fearsome abilities as well. They comprise the Slaugh, or The Host, the band of the unsanctified dead who fly above the earth, stealing mortals and take great pleasure in harming humans. Some Scottish legends say they were all once members of the Seelie Court who fell from grace. The Court travels on the night winds from where their unnerving cackles and howls can be heard. They have no method of reproduction, so they enslave mortals whom they think would never be missed and carry them along to become one of them. The Seelie Court and its counterpart, the Unseelie Court are often at war,and humans may get caught in the middle of such battles. They acquired the title "Court" because they also act as arbiters and judges in faery disputes. IrelandThe great Tuatha de Danann of Ireland fled to Tir Nan Og (which is another world of their own. when the humans, or Milesians came, they decided to split the worlds asunder, according to legend. some fae decided to stay on our plane, however.) after their defeat by the Milesians, however those who remained in Ireland became the Daoine Sidhe. Side (Shee) is gaelic for 'people of the hills'. Orriginally it referred to the mounds in which faeries lived, though it has now come to refer to the inhabitants as well. Their king is Finvarra, who like all of his clan is a skilled warrior. He is also fond of chess playing and women. Despite the fact that his wife, Donagh, is one of the most beautiful women above or below the ground, he is known to abduct brides-to-be. Like the Seelie Court, the Daoine Sidhe, enjoy riding and are famous for their faerie steeds, which can carry a rider faster than the wind over land or water. Another group of faeries in Ireland inhabit the Lough Lean. their ruler is O'Donoghue who rides forth from the lake every May Day on a war steed to ride into the surrounding mist. WalesWhales has perhaps more clans of faeries than any other area. In Glastonburry Tor, famous from Arturian legends, Gwyn ap Nudd rules over the Plant Annwn (roughly- family of hades). Long ago, on every New Year's Day, a door would appear in the side of a great rock next to a certain lake. Those who entered found that it lead to a passage that ended on the island in the middle of the lake. This island was a beatiful garden kept by the Gwrgedd Annwn, who would serve wonderful food to the travelers and treat them as honored guests. They warned the fortunate mortals that the doorway was a secret and that nothing could be taken from the garden. One mortal took a single flower from the garden and as soon as he touched the soil of earth, all of the other other travelers were expelled and the doorway was closed, never to reopen again. BrittanyBrittany has several classes of Faeries, the most popular being the Korrigans who have been counted to be more than 10 000 in the past. Unfortunately, there seems to be little information on the faeries in Brittany. So... you got all of this information from a fictional book series that is loosely based on old legends...

You sound like you may have mixed otherkin with something else just as dumb. faries are small. Measured in inches not feet. Averaging around 3-5 inches, other members of the fay family such as elves and imps are normally a bit bigger ranging from 3 to 5 feet tall. You can not be considered a member of the fay unless you reside in the in between area of the physical plane and the ethereal or astral plane. since any fay resides on both planes they can normally shift between with out any problem. The main reason a fay comes to our plane is because there is no food on the other plane. Not that there isn't substance just that there isn't any food. This is why there are so many myths on how to please the fay using things such as honeyed milk or a thimble of brandy.

I have beliefs regarding fairies myself, and sometimes I use the fictional mythology for personal symbolism and sigils, but I find that doing so is very challenging, the origin of mythology is vague, and a lot of it comes from closed traditions.
I guess what I was trying to articulate, is not to present the information as fact, but taking that its the mythology as you've been able to record so far, its pretty comprehensive. Some of the info about closed traditional origins of creature mythology, might not be accurate, not sure.

I actually realized that elves were orginally heritated from faeries, and that they became their own species. Faeries are those who I believe come from mythology and a reality in which we hadn't unlocked yet.
In regards to otherkin, an person is a human person, however, they look deeply to find that the soul is not, and an faerie may not be all of what it seems to be. Faeries have their own potentials, not all of them are like your cute little Tinkerbell faeries.
