"Stale" wasn't the way Dusty had imagined to describe his new life at the Fa'e HQ, but no term suited better. Things were slow... stiff... dull. He'd almost rather be at home, doing homework and listening to Arrien prattle on about history or math or something else that didn't matter! But of course, that wasn't an option. So all he could do was slouch around on the stairs in the HQ, practicing at balancing his obsidian dagger by its tip on his finger, and boredly count down how long it would be until that crazy Guardian of Guelherme's started screaming in her room about some new irritation in her life that nobody cared about.

Somewhere in this haze of boredom, though, something came up to catch Dusty's attention. A sort of familiar, foreboding scent from somewhere in the HQ, slick and salty, almost flavorful - fish? Seung? Dustin really couldn't scent things that well, but it reminded him a bit of the mothfish brat. It'd been ages since he'd seen her last, and she was still quite annoying in his memory... but hey, even annoying company was company.

Avoiding any thoughts of "how pathetic have I become, to be willing to make friends out of Fishbreath?", Dustin tucked away the knife and rose, clopping down the stairs and following the source of the smell throughout the HQ. He could hear someone moving around not so far away, and his hearing was much better than his sense of smell. "Hello?" he called out curiously, crossing the threshold into the next room.

Baniru had been sitting on the couch, slightly hunched over a squirming, suspicious bundle tucked firmly in the crook of her arm. Levon was strong for a baby- probably due to those tentacles- and she had to wiggle around constantly to keep him in her grasp.

"Come on," she said, exasperated. She started out trying to feed a rather fussy baby his bottle. As time went on, she'd lost the bottle entirely, and had to fight to simply keep Levon from wriggling away. The little monster was having a good time of it at the least- he'd made a noise similar to a giggle. It was more a gargle.

Hello? someone said loudly, interrupting the struggle. She and the baby stopped simultaneously to look towards the noise.

"... Hello?" Baniru answered, curious. She hadn't spent much time at the HQ, and hadn't met any others beyond Nozomi yet. Levon held a single tentacle in the air, letting it peek out from under his blanket.

Seung was still a bit short in Dusty's memory, but she wasn't that short.

The child didn't announce himself a second time - his eyes were fixed onto the thing in Baniru's arms, staring with rude wonder as he drifted a few steps away from the fireplace. There were... things. Tendril-things. And it made funny noises. It was like... the monster. The thing. From that movie. Where there was the mother in the car and they were aliens and she gave birth and there was Will Smith, and... and yeah.

If Dustin had been caught a bit less by surprise, he might have been able to come up with something more tactful to say. As was, all he could do was stare at the creature with open fascination and confusion before fixing his eyes on Baniru and asking, somewhat numbly - "What is it?"

She wasn't used to children, but she knew to be patient with them nonetheless; thinking that maybe Dusty was a bit thick (or maybe just baffled by Levon's rather... unique appearance), she answered with the obvious.

"It's a baby," Baniru said, and Levon went right back to wiggling- apparently unhappy being trapped under his blanket. She tucked him into her arms so he couldn't escape.

"And who are you?" she asked curiously. She gave Dusty a quick look over from head to toe. I might ask you the same thing, little... boy? What are you, she thought. Obviously not human. Had to be another Fa'e.

The child began staring with renewed intensity at the squirming bundle. The more he looked, the more he was convinced - it WAS the alien-baby! Somewhere between fascination and dismay, it took the deerkitten several seconds to realized he'd been asked a question.

"'M Dusty," he replied, his eyes glancing away from the child for an instant - but only an instant. "He's... it's a he, right? He's, uhm. Cute." That was as insincere as it could be, but Dusty knew he had to butter the woman up a bit before he could dare to ask the question that was really on his mind. "He's not Fa'e, is he?"

Bani smiled a little, rueful and a touch annoyed. Suddenly, she knew how Omi felt.
"Hm... Dusty," she muttered, confused whether to address the kid as he or she. Must be a boy... walked like a boy, talked like a boy. She waved the thought off.

"Thank you. Of course he's a Fa'e."
To this, Levon looked over at Dustin with wide blue eyes, and opened his mouth to reveal a sharp row of needle-like teeth. One of his tentacles wriggled out of his guardian's grasp and wrapped around her arm.

She ignored this, apparently used to it. "Do you want to hold him?" Bani asked, and held out the writhing mass of teeth, suckers, and fishy appendages.
