Do you remember when Gundam Wing first came out or when you got into GW shounen ai?

Talk here about the first time you saw Gundam Wing.

Umm.. lets see.. I think i was in the 6th grade when i heard there was going to be a channel that was going to be 24 hours of cartoons. To a little kid, who only ever watched Saturday morning cartoons and evening cartoons, this made you jump and down. Toonami came out my 7th grade year, I remember DBZ, Thunder Cats, Salior Moon and Gundam Wing airing for the first time. And I was hooked. When i was younger I went to church.. i ditched a church function to watch the end of Gundam Wing. *laughs* I remember crying until i got my way, and got grounded from TV for two weeks after i watched the end of GW.
Hmmm.. i think around 2001 i read a fan-fiction where Heero and Duo we're a couple. And it just felt right. I read and read and read. And I got hooked on GW Yaoi/shonen ai stories. They aren't as good as they once we're and its been years since I've read anymore. But I've also read quiet a bit of Doujin dealing with both GW and FMA. I loves teh RoyXEd, and i should be getting my hands on a actual FMA Doujin manga here soon.. i won't be able to read it, since its in Japanese, but i'll love it anyway.

umm.. yeah.. i typed a lot. So i hope you type some too.. talk with your guild captain.. love your guild captain...

When I first watched Gundam Wing... wow...

Actually, I only watched it cause I kinda got addicted to DBZ. I was in High School, and my friend Mallory and I always watched GW. Our friend Mark did too, and we used to have huge conversations about it and Tenchi Muyo during class, hehehe.
I remember when Mark tried to convince us Quatre wasn't dead. We were soooo distraught! But he was right, we were happy.
I was always a fan of Zechs Merquise... had a lot to do with Brian Drummond having played Vejita from DBZ at the time (before FUNi got it's claws into it) and then playing Zechs. His voice was just so sexy.
It wasn't until last year that I finally saw it all subbed... realized that DUH Koyasu Takehito is sexier, but still... it makes me nostalgic to watch GW in English and not in Japanese (Ocean studio dubs are some of the few I can take).

As for shounen ai GW...
I've always been a fan of the Zechs x Noin pairing, but I really blame Pippin for any other GW pairings nowadays, hehe.
Nowadays, I go for Zechs x Trieze and I'm pretty good with Heero x Duo. In school, I used to joke with my friends Lacie and Merry about Quatre x Trowa... so that was really my friend notion of a GW shounen ai pairing.
In truth, I didn't like shounen ai pairings until I saw Gravitation and Yami no Matsuei, and then I started to.
Perhaps my favorite pairing of all time is the one between Watari x Tatsumi from Yami no Matsuei, though lately I've been more about Gundam 00 pairings (yay for N. Lockon x Tieria!).

But there it is... there's how I first saw GW (on Toonami) and my first GW shounen ai pairing!

OT(Off Topic): Ah to the person above my post? It was Trowa who nearly died. Quatre is the blond who went berserk, his life was never in any danger in any part of the series, well at the end I s'pose but not to the point where one would think him dead so I think you might have confused the two.

BOT(Back On Topic):

Ah yes I remember so well. It was after I left elementary. (Dutch schooling system is radically different from English/American and Asian systems) It was half way through my first year in middle school what for you would probably be high school. (Ya know math, sciences and all them classes)

It was the year 1998. Our channel Yourin (formerly veronica and now RTL7) decided to test with a toonami block for the kids. It started at 2 with some lame kids show with paper cut type figures that was about a girl with too much imagination, then came dragonball Z and Cardcaptor Sakura. The first only interested me because I thought Gohan was such a poor kid being forced to fight and stuff and it was all pretty comical, the second I watched purely for the sake of it being damn funny to watch a girl chase after a card all over town and getting in the weirdest trouble while catching it. (and I thought the outfits she wore were cute). It would end at 15:30 with a half an hour episode of Gundam Wing.

I missed quite a few episodes so I was always sitting in front of the TV in the weekend suffering through sailor moon so I wouldn't miss the reruns of Gundam Wing.

The first episode I saw was the one where Wufei attacked Noin's base. I saw Zechs and wondered about the helmet and what the hell was Noin doing with that sword! O.o and then suddenly there was Wufei and the action picked up and I was swept in right away. I watched the weekend reruns and immediately disliked Relena (Pink shirt ewwww!) Heero I thought was pretty cool and Duo was awesomely funny.

I watched the entire series 8 times over before I had seen all the episodes and yourin died a sad pathetic take over death to be turned into RTL7 and drop Toonami like a hot potato. This caused quite a ruckus, but unfortunately it didn't help.

Sad at the loss I searched the web (slow as it was) for more on Gundam wing. I found the mangas and began reading them, steadily falling more for Wufei whom was already my favorite and a little for Duo too. I found www.fanfiction.net and began to read fan stories some of which were good and being a writer made my own stories which made me quite happy, but I longed to see more gundam wing.

Then in 2004 we finally got ADSL Internet! I couldn't have been more happy as we used to have old fashion phone line web which is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery slow. I could finally watch videos online and found Kumby.com which much to my personal joy had the entire series in their database to be watch AND the OVA of which I'd caught the last bit of the last episode on TV. I spend nights watching every episode and the OVA in one go

As for my Shonen ai, well it's impossible to read fanfiction and not be swayed to join the Shonen ai side of the series. At first I thought it preposterous, but reading more and more I began to see reason and had to admit some of these stories were pretty damn good and I couldn't ignore that the series did show some obviously more then friendship hints between Trowa and Quatre. I was always open minded so it was more the idea of these boys not fitting together then the whole shonen ai that had me forgoing those stories for a long time until my friend said I know you're not into GW Shonen ai but you gotta read this story I just read so I did and I thought hey this is actually pretty good! The story is called 'The price they paid.' and it has a sequal. The pairings are DuoXHeero, QuateXTrowa and ZechsXWufei and while I believe that Zechs belongs to Noin as is obvious in the series I must admit it's a damn good story and I recommend strongly to people to go to fanfiction.net some time and read it.

Oh yes, I remember this quite clearly. It was the summer before I entered 8th grade. My parents were going through a tough time and they decided to try a separation period to sort things out before filing for divorce, so my brother, my mom, and I moved into an apartment. An apartment with cable television. This is the first time we'd ever had cable in our lives.

And with cable, thus came Cartoon Network, Toonami, and Gundam Wing.

I can't remember for certain, but I think I missed the first maybe two episodes, but from then on I watched it religiously and taped it when I couldn't.

Because of Gundam Wing I got into wanting to draw, and then I started reading fanfics fairly early on and discovered the wonderful world of yaoi. I was both an avid reader as well as an avid writer (52 GW fics, one Yami no Matsuei/GW crossover, don't bother searching because you probably can't find them anywhere on the web anymore; I took them all down and burned all my hard copies. There is only a single CD left).

I never read a GW fanfic I didn't like. I shied away from the big fanfiction sites like FF.net and mediaminer and stuck to the small GW-centric sites with actual standards and read others only on recommendation, so I'm sure than influenced me quite a bit.

After high school I stopped writing fanfiction and moved to original stories, but I never stopped thinking about Gundam Wing. I decided to take up fanfiction again (in moderation) and wrote a pokemon fanfic earlier this year, and then just now at the beginning of this semester have I started on my first GW fanfic in almost 6 years.

I got into Gundam Wing at around the age of 15 or 16, which was back in '98 or '99, somewhere in there. I remember it pretty vividly because my first girlfriend and I were both really into it, among other things. (Slayers, InuYasha, Mononoke, etc.) I was into the Yaoi bits almost immediately, and dove head-first into the fan fiction that was available. (At this point, there were only a few sites, and I found most of my fan fiction via Anipike, which is in major need of an overhaul these days.)

Anywho, that's where I got started, and I began writing a few pieces (that should never, ever, see the light of day again gonk ) and reading stuff from all over, almost exclusively keeping to the Yaoi side of things.

When 2005 rolled around, I got all excited about it again because of the 10 year anniversary of Gundam Wing and (finally) got around to watching the entire series. (And summarily realized that Wufei is much more of a jackass in the anime than he is in Endless Waltz. That made me a sad bunny for a few days, as he is most certainly my favorite character.)
