I need a pretty versatile guitar that I can get in around the $600-700 range. I play a wide variety of music, though mostly rock/grunge/metal. Porcupine Tree, Alice In Chains, Muse, Tool...So something pretty heavy that also has a very nice clean tone. I want a vibrato system (I can't resist how much fun it is to screw with...)
The two I'm looking at right now are a Parker PM-24V and a PRS SE Custom 22. The PRS looks and sounds just schmexy, and it's a very versatile instrument. But I'm intrigued by the Parker, which has those acoustic-sounding piezos (An attractive feature, since I switch a lot mid-song in my band) and a LOT of pickup combinations fo more versatility. I haven't played the Parker, yet, though.
Ultimately, I'll make a decision by playing said guitars. My question is whether any of you guys have any suggestions on what else I should check out before I decide?

A Schecter C-1 FR. It has active pick-ups, but the clean tone is surprisingly decent on it. It's also 24 frets and a Floyd Rose.
A G&L Tribute HSS Legasy is another. You'll get some great distorted sounds from the Humbucker and some good clean tones from the single coils. G&L also has the best tremolo bridge I've ever used and the Tribute series is their import series like PRS has the SE series. So, it will be cheaper than an American made G&L.

I play an Ibanez that isn't to great, but my friend just bought a Epiphone Prophesy, it feels really great. Best guitar I've played, it has a humbucker emg 81 on the bridge, witch sounds amazing when you play solos.

PRS and Parker are good choices for the price range. But what you really want to do is go into a local guitar center and look for a steal of a deal on a used axe. anything wrong with it can be fixed/replaced for a whole lot less than an overpriced new one. For instance, i'm currently playing my beautiful blue maple top neck through COPLEY, with 2 EMG's, epic floyd rose. $150, and i didn't have to do a thing to it, and it gives me the ability to play Steve Vai songs.
