Rhian wasn't entirely convinced by her flower-brother's reassuring words, but she did feel much better overall, and really, that was all that mattered for now, wasn't it? Oooh, cream soda? That sounded nice - wait, Aoi'd asked her a question before that, umm.... what was it again? Oh, right - why she'd asked about Elst-plant.
"I was just wondering, that's all," she said truthfully - she really had just been wondering. "And yes, please! Cream soda sounds nice -what is it, though? Is it as nice as its name sounds? Does it taste good with fluffy treat? What about ice cream? Do you have any ice cream, Aoi-flower? Ice cream and cream soda, they sound like they should go together, don't you think? They both have cream in their names!"
Yes, for the moment at least, Rhian was back to her happy flutterby self. A reassuring sight - even if one wearing on one's sanity after a while.

Well, as long as she felt better…yeah, that was what mattered to Aoi. The ‘defect’ mindset had to be stopped, soothed into the truth. He simply couldn’t bear to see his precious little sister tear herself apart like that…
“Ah, yeah, curiosity’s a sign of intelligence, you know…And yeah, Cream Soda’s real good, all caramelly and vanilla-like, awesome stuff.” He snagged bottles for both himself and his sister, bringing them over to rest on a table in front of the couch, sitting next to her. He opened hers for her, with a bottle opener suspended on the ribbon about his neck, handing it to her. “Here, try! And I’m sure there’s ice cream somewhere in the house, too. Vanilla ice cream goes especially well with root beer, actually.”

Rhian ook a sip, swallowed and immediately made a sound of delight. "Oh, Aoi-flower, it's so good! Can e try some ice-cream and root-beer next, please?" The flutterby's sweet tooth was acting up again, be careful how much sugar you give her, Aoi, this Essentic's not known to be safe when she's on a sugar high, and she's clumsier now than she was as a proto! "Sooooo good, where do you get it? Can I take some home with me? I want to drink this every day, it's even better than pink milk!"

Aoi smiled at his little sister’s reaction, eyes warm, soft in expression. “Oh, sure, we can try that next. ‘s called a Root Beer Float, real good-tasting. We’ll just have a bit for the moment, though, it’s best as a dessert in full. And we don’t want to see a repeat of you on too much sugar like last time, eh?” He listened quietly as she asked her next question. “And I think cream soda’s just sold at grocery stores and places like that, soda shops. And be careful not to drink too much of it, you have such nice teeth now, wouldn’t want to ruin ‘em with a bunch of cavities.”

Rhian paused in mid-slurp, peeking at Aoi over the top of the soda bottle. "Cavities? What're those, Aoi-flower? They sound icky," the flutterby said, wrinkling her nose. She didn't know what the icky-sounding things had to do with teeth, but they sounded like something she didn't want, that was for sure. But other things were more important for the moment - like that "root beer float" thing. "Root beer float? Why's it called that? And does it have beer in it like Faolan and sibling-Ziazan drink? IF so I don't think I'd like it. . . Their beer smells nasty."

The flower child’s face twisted in mock macabre, looking rather silly as he described the dental horror. “Ooh, cavities, they’re real nasty, ‘s when bacteria actually eats a hole in your tooth, hurts really bad, takes forever to fix. Sometimes a dentist has to even drill out the eaten part.” He rid himself of the false-horrified look for the moment. “And we call them Root Beer Floats because they’re ice cream floating in root beer. …and definitely no beer in these things. Only reason Root Beer has the word in it is because…well, I’m not too sure, but I think they brew it the same way, or some way a lot like how they brew beer. Root Beer tastes a lot better, too.”

Rhian made a face, thinking that whoever let their teeth get eaten by those bacter-things must be really, really dumb to let them inside of their mouth! Who let something that ate teeth into their mouth anyway? "Ewww, Aoi-flower, ewww, that's icky!" She said, making a face. "But these float-things sound nice, let's go try some!" she chirped, so glad she'd skipped icky school today to come have fun here! School or sweets? Well, the choice was obvious.

Aoi nodded a bit. "Yeah, real icky, it's why teeth brushing is done...gets rid of all the little buggers..." He led his little sister towards the house, where the treasured Root Beer Float ingredients lay in store. He smiled as he saw her uplift upon further thoughts of the frozen treat.
"Yes, let's..."

"Ewww, they sound REALLY gross," Rhian said, crossing her eyes and sticking her tongue out - and almost tripping over her own feet as she walked. "I guess that's why toothpaste tastes bad? To drive the icky bugs out?" But enough about the icky, let's make some SWEETS!

Aoi smiled at Rhian’s expression, loving the time he got to have with his little sister. “Yup, nasty…and, well, yeah, the flu-floor-uh…fluoride, yeah, that’s what it’s called, the fluoride’s what makes toothpaste gross, the stuff you taste though is the stuff they use to cover the taste of the fluoride. And I’m sure there must be some toothpaste out there that tastes good…you just have to find it, that’s the trick.” He spared a small, sly wink. “Fluoride’s all the stuff the bugs don’t like, though. I dunno if it tastes bad to them, or what, but…at least it works, that’s all that matters to me. M’teeth are still nice and strong.”
He flicked his tooth with one of his nails as he led Rhian inside, through the usual bouquet of pleasant, almost tantalizing fragrances, into the spacious, yet modest kitchen. Elst, apparently, had been baking again, and a fresh vanilla sponge cake with cream topping sat upon the counter, seeming to greet the two Essentics with a fluffy, white smile as they entered the kitchen. The scents of many a cake and baked good weighted the air flavorfully, enough to perhaps even sate one’s budding appetite.
A note, in Elst’s odd, slanted, yet very neat handwriting, sat next to the seeming Angel’s Food Cake:
Aoi,
If you could, please do eat this, or the other things I have been making. Or perhaps give it to someone, anything. Just do something with it. I’ve noticed that I am running out of space to store my food as of late because we have had so few guests at present. Enjoy. Please.
-Elst
Aoi’s mouth curved into another smile. “Well, sis…it’d be a shame to let this nice cake go to waste, wouldn’t you think…?"

Rhian looked around with wide eyes, taking in all the baked-goods and turning to Aoi with shock all over her face. "Aoi-flower, did someone replace Elst-plant with a maniac baker?" Surely that was the only thing that could explain the overwhelming amount of baked goods that seemed (to the flutterby's eyes) to bury the room in their tasty fluffiness.

Aoi smiled a little, a slight snerk escaping from him. “Yeah….Dad suddenly started baking for some reason. I think he just tried it once, but then noticed Miss Longway liked it so now he does it all the time.” He opened the fridge, to retrieve two bottles of root beer. “Now….which came first, the root beer float or the cake?”

"Root beer! No, cake, no, um, both! At the same time!" Rhian truly couldn't decide what the answer was - if there was even a right answer - and continued hesitating for the next few minutes before the phone rang and she squeaked, ducking under the table as if that would hide her from the caller. "If that's Mama, I'm not here! I'm not!"
