Peutaiite toco clarinet oh yeah..and ANY scale can "show off" low AND high notes. start on the lowest octave you play the root note and go to the highest you can get the root note. Well... the one that can't is concert Bb. It can't go down an octave (without using the foot) and it can't go two octaves without using altissimo notes. (And G is the hardest altissimo note, apparently) And I'd know better than to do scales like that. xP I'll probably do like.... Concert E (C#+) I would like to do concert G#, but it only has one flat. I might even go with concert G. There are four sharps and it goes pretty high. I wish I could do concert C#. (I think that's Bb on alto) I love the low notes, but it only has two flats. D: Any advice on this next point? I'm kind of afraid to ask my music teacher about it. I'm afraid she'll hate me for wanting to switch out of her music program. The school is well known, and its an "art school" so.... she'd know why, but I'm still scared she'd take it the wrong way or something, and then, if I don't make it in, she'll hate me for the next two years. If you want a good major scale (for low notes) use concert D. For high notes, use either concert G or A (depending on if you have a high F# key or not.)

for concert Bb you could just start on a D and go up from there razz and that first altissimo G isn't so hard after you get the hang of it...i have to play it at the very beginning (seriously i play a few high F#s and then four measures of that G) of this year's march.

as an audition piece I would go with "vocalise" I forgot who wrote it, but truly a beautiful piece sounds nice in Eb instruments, well I have heard it played on a soprano saxophone, beautiful might I add..... <3 smile

With my experience in college auditions, you might not even be asked to play scales depending on the piece you play for the audition and how well you play it.
It depends what they ask for the audition. If they ask for a prepared piece, pick a piece that shows YOU at YOUR best. Don't try to pick a professional level piece, suck at it, and expect them to be impressed. But don't pick something too easy.
If they do ask for scales, Do ALL of them. Don't pick and choose. Do them in the circle of keys too.... start with C concert, then F concert, then Bb, concert, then Eb concert, and so on and so forth. And you probably have to do some minor and chromatic scales. It really depends on how well you play your audition piece.

Thanks everyone. biggrin
I might do the circle of fourths. So I'd play: A,D,G,C,F,Bb,Eb,Ab,C#,F#,B,E And I don't really know any minor scales. Although I'm sure I can play them (I have to play them for piano)
I'm still not sure if I want to go. I really don't want to hurt my BDs feelings, but I REALLY want to go. Advice?
This is just a high school BTW. Not college/university. The audition would be to attend the school starting next year, which would be grade 11.

Start your C major scale starting on an A and you have an A minor scale. start F major on D and you have a D minor. etc.

For G (Concert Bb) I play Bb+ notes on saxophone. And for A (concert C) I use C fingerings on saxophone. Hopefully someone gets what I mean. Anyways, I printed off the forms today, so I'm pretty sure I'm going for it. Okay.... the main reason I commented: BUMP

Turns out I don't need to play major scales.
Its: Choose one major scale, two octaves. Chose one other major scale one octave TWO NOTES SLUR+TWO NOTES STACCATO
My friend told me to do Eb for the 2 octave, and C# for the one octave. biggrin

If you really want to get in, you might want to learn bari or tenor sax and tell them you can play them. And music teachers usually want the best for you, so you should ask yours if you think it'd help
