Sense and Sensibility

rating = 8.5/10
Year: 1995/1996
Story: based on jane austen's book 'sense and sensibility'...
When Mr. Dashwood dies, he must leave the bulk of his estate to the son by his first marriage, which leaves his second wife and three daughters (Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret) in straitened circumstances. They are taken in by a kindly cousin, but their lack of fortune affects the marriageability of both practical Elinor and romantic Marianne. When Elinor forms an attachment for the wealthy Edward Ferrars, his family disapproves and separates them. And though Mrs. Jennings tries to match the worthy (and rich) Colonel Brandon to her, Marianne finds the dashing and fiery Willoughby more to her taste. Both relationships are sorely tried. But this is a romance, and through the hardships and heartbreak, true love and a happy ending will find their way for both the sister who is all sense and the one who is all sensibility

Actors:
Like most british period drama films it's a veritable feast of talebnt - from the great theatre trained actors to more farnmilar and movie-based ones. here are but a few:
*Kate Winslet (titanic, the reader)
*Emma Thomson - who also adapted the book into the screenplay - (nanny mcphee, harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban, treasure planet, love actually)
*Hugh Grant (4 weddings and a funeral, notting hill, bridget jones' diaries)
*Alan rickman (Die hard, harry potter, robin hood, love actually)
*Hugh Laurie (blackadder, House etc)
* the-guy-who-played-Hugo-in-the-vicar-of-dibley
DT's verdict: considering i'm not usually a fan of pompy histrical dramas, I do love this adaptation of jane austen's story. It's warm, funny and genuinely a great story, brilliantly acted. well worth a watch.
Also check out the part which teh victor of dibley parodied in teh episode where Geraldine was proposed to :3
