He'd been about to explain that, yes, people apparantly DID ditch work for that. Before hiring Sei, in fact, one of his applicants to fill his former position had made it clear she absolutely could NOT work on Fridays because that was her 'spa day'.
He, however, did not get a chance at her question as he drew in a breath and then let it out slowly, his eyes lidding themselves in thought. "Let's see...." he murmured. "Holidays are coming up soon so its about time to hire on a couple extra seasonal people. This week I don't get an off-day because I need to get caught up on going through applications, but..."
The tines of his fork tapped the rim of the plate thoughtfully. "After that, I'm pretty well set for Mondays and Tuesdays off, unless something comes up."

She listened, giving him her full attention as he explained the work situation, cringing when he mentioned the holidays. Those she remembered. Ken always seemed to be tired, angry, or just plain crazy during the holidays thanks to all the lovely consumers that came out to rampage around shopping malls and restaurants. Everyone wanted everything for cheap or for free, and with the shittiest attitude possible.
It almost made her lose faith in Christmas. Almost.
When he mentioned he would be having consistent days off, a brilliant smile appeared. "Well," Tourma started, "I was thinking about taking some night classes whether or not I get this job, do you want to take them with me?" Her tail swished behind her as she leaned forward hopefully, moving more towards the edge of the chair, which creaked in discomfort.

Brown vulpine ears pricked in interest as he brought his gaze up from the tabletop to focus on her squarely. "Yeah?" he asked. "What sorts of classes?"
His answer, he decided, would be dependent on hers. If they were classes specific to the job she'd applied for, he wasn't sure if he'd be able to keep up with, or retain what was being taught in them.

"General education ones," she answered, watching his reaction intently. "Eventually, I want to graduate from college, but for now all I think I can handle are community college classes. I figure, I can take care of all the electives and general education classes more cheaply that way too..."
Tourmaline trailed off, curiously and expectantly awaiting an answer.

Crimson-and-gold eyes narrowed in thought, trying to weigh the pros and cons of the prospect as it was presented. On the one hand, while managing Gamecrazy was fine for now, it might not be fine forever. And if all he had to offer other employers was the fact he'd worked in retail, it didn't broaden his horizons very much at all.
On the other hand, he tried to envision balancing both work as it was at the moment and classes...
If Ray had been there, he knew, she'd have happily reminded him people went to work, went to class, then came home and took care of their thirty-billion children, and STILL had time to do the crossword puzzle before bed.
"I....could maybe try a couple?" he relented. "See how it works out, I mean..."

Her face erupted into a beaming smile, and she clapped her hands together. "I'm so excited!" She rambled cheerfully. "Not only do I get to go to school, but I'll already have a friend and study buddy! I've never had a study buddy before that wasn't related to me!"
One would have thought that Christmas had come early.
Tail swishing behind her, Tourma couldn't shake the smile off her face long enough to safely get a spoonful of soup into her mouth. "What classes would you want to take?"
The teen's mind swam with ideas and images of them walking around the college and just looking like they do in TVs and the movies.
