[Packlands] The Femina Durus packlands are located upriver from the freelands, at the river's mountain origin. The packlands are based loosely on Yosemite, California.
At the heart of the packlands lies a series of hot springs, where legend rumors of a Fountain of Youth. These springs are heated by underlying volcanic activity.
Surrounded by mountains, the packlands are well protected and hidden. There are a handful of passes into and out of the lands, many of which are blocked by ascending glaciers and snow during the winter time.
Within the mountains is a gorge, where the river originates, fast and furious. Beautiful waterfalls are located here, but beware of the waters here. They are dangerous, containing submerged rocks and 'caverns,' in which even the strongest swimmer can become trapped and drown.
Further down the river, the gorge slopes into a friendlier valley, where the water is slower, but not stagnant. There are many places to cross and is prone to flooding when the mountain snows melt or there is a heavy rain. This also promises renewed silt deposits, which is the cause for lush vegetation in the valley.
The dens are located along one of the mountains lining the valley, high enough to be safe from flood waters, and concealed enough for comfort.
There are several large game trails within the packlands, as well as a variety of smaller animals inhabiting the area.
This is where Batool was raised, and once was home to her family's pack.
