As someone who is new to the Buddhist path, the absence of a single Bible-esque text (can you tell I'm a former Christian?) has been bothering me.
I don't have any close Buddhist friends, and for all my searching, there doesn't seem to be a Buddhist community or organization at my college, so, for the moment, I'm limited to reading about the Buddha's teachings.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is, can anyone suggest some basic texts to start with? What would you recommend?
