Name: Yisenkar Age: 16 Sex: Male Sexual Orientation: Bisexual Craft: N/A Rank: Member of the Flying Wherries Physical Description: Yisenkar is a scrawny youth of slightly less than average height; hard work has put a scrap of wiry muscle on his frame but nowhere near enough to be impressive. His hair is dark brown, straight, worn fairly short, and given to sticking up at odd angles. The desert sun has tanned his face and hands deeply, but the rest of his skin is a medium olive; he doesn’t see the point of trying to even the tan out no matter how silly other people might think he looks. A rather angular face and eyes that manage not to look warm despite their light brown colour finish off the package; over all the youth looks like nothing much in particular, but another glance at his chilly brown eyes might make a careful observer might think twice before dismissing him as completely harmless.
Personality: Only one thing truly matters to Yisenkar, and that is Yisenkar. In any situation he puts his own interests first even if it means going back on something he has said previously, or hurting someone else. He is sensible enough not to harm or seriously inconvenience members of his own faction intentionally, but everyone else is fair game if they’re in his way, so long as they aren’t too far above him in the pecking order that is. He isn’t necessarily striving to be on top but he is striving to rise from his current lowly position, to make a more comfortable life for himself. If he impresses a brown have no doubt that he will take full advantage of the opportunities that offers, but equally he would happily exploit the unique chances that being a green rider would offer; tailoring his future plans to the dragon who chooses him is no issue at all to Yisenkar.
He isn’t a brave young man when it comes to face to face confrontation; call it sensible or call it cowardly, he thinks it’s better to back down from a fight he knows he won’t win than to end up with a broken nose or something. In order to avoid such things, his methods for getting what he wants are all sneaky and or underhanded; he has no pride, and no qualms about kicking a foe when they’re down, especially if said foe won’t find out it was him doing the kicking. Concepts such as honor and justice are foolish in his eyes; you’re never going to get anywhere in life if you hold back from doing what you must to get ahead because ‘it isn’t right’.
Just as he is good at putting himself first, Yisenkar is good at recognizing people who could be useful to him and seeking to help them fulfill their goals, so long as they don’t conflict with his own. He has quite a few allies in the Weyr, mainly members of his own faction of course, but almost no friends, and none of those close; the only person he has let through his guard is his foster father. As his attempts to keep people at arms length have been so successful, he finds himself isolated and lonely a lot of the time; much though he hates to admit it he needs companionship as much as the next person and secretly longs to have friends like everyone else seems to. If he ever were to make a true friend he would value them greatly, and he would try hard to serve their interests at the same time as his own. Should a conflict between the two arise even he isn’t quite sure how he would react, one of the reasons he had avoided having friends; deep emotional connections are a liability, and could keep him from making a perfect move in the game of life. Thus far the potential cost of having to let an opportunity go by has outweighed his loneliness, but it is always possible that that balance will reverse one day.
History: Yisenkar is a Weyrbrat; his blood mother is a drudge, and his father a blue rider of no consequence. Neither was especially interested in him, and so like most children in his situation he was raised by the Weyr’s creche for the first several years of his life. As a fairly bright boy it quickly became apparent to Yisenkar that life was tough especially if you were a nobody, and as the turns went by he became increasingly sneaky and guarded in an attempt to get the maximum gain out of life for minimal costs. He was matched to a foster father aged seven, and though the cheerful lower caverns worker eventually earned the boy’s trust and love, he never managed to get him to change the self-serving, conniving nature that had become so deeply instilled into him by that time. Thanks to his inauspicious parentage, as Yisenkar grew older he became close to the Flying Wherries, and once he turned twelve and began to stand as a candidate he joined their ranks. Since then he has done his best to serve their goals as well as his own, but of course his loyalty to himself has always come first.
Pets: None
Other/Talents: Can cook a large range of yummy cakes and desserts thanks to his foster father's teaching.
