Winter hails from New York City and was founded in 1988. They stayed together only 4 years and in that time released only a demo tape and one full-length, 1990's Into Darkness. They're a little hard to nail down (at least for me) as either funeral doom or death/doom. In any case, they've influenced later bands in both subgenres. Creepingly slow, dense, and heavy.
