We have changed our ways this year thansk to a new director.
We used to use metal washers painted bright neon colors. we each got three, and they were nice cause they were heavy so if you accidentally kicked one(happens often) it wouldn't go too far from the spot.
Now, we use poker chips. 2 white, 1 red, 1 blue. They are small, and made of thin plastic. They break easily(first day we used them, the trumpet who always marches next to me found one of his split in half. Another tme someone had one that had the entire middle punched out, but it was normal when she put it on the field.) Also, they are uber light. Just the wind can send them flying away. And if you kick one, who knows how far it will go. We loose a lot of them, because they get kicked far away, kicked again, and then you don't know where they are. It really gets annoying when that one kid has to argue that he is line because thats where his chip is. The good news is; it kind of helps us memorize our spots, because we never know if the chi is going to stay there or not.
Oh, they are also easy to dig into the ground. My sl's found a permanent spot oin the football field, because she couldn't dig it out.

We don't use dots for some reason, I wish we did though. We have to count off are spots from the coordinates sheet we have, It's a pain sometimes cause they only give you 5 seconds to find your spot and if you are trying to count off to your spot you get yelled at for being late... so we just try and do the form by sight.

We use sidewalk chalk in the parking lot marked lie a football field, it's a good system, but in all this rain the dots wash away in like a day.
