Just wondering if anyone had anything personally embarrassing happen to them at the first game?
Mine is that our freshmen still haven't learned how to march a lot yet so for our halftime show all we did was stand in concert formation on the field and play our first song. Which was super embarrassing since it was a home game and we went on second after the other band which had their whole first song already on the field.

Our first game is this friday and it's AWAY. sad I'm really nervous.
The band is doing pretty well, especially since over half of our band is freshman or new members, but the drumline has had it a little rough.
We only just found a MAJOR issue with our music like a week ago and just fixed it last practice. We found out that our music was three bars off. Plus, the three freshman of drumline (all basses) haven't learned their music and one is hardly ever at practice. And the entire band has hardly ever played through the 1st song without Dr. Beat and without a drum major, it's crucial that the drumline pick up the slack.
Oh, and we haven't looked at the stands music yet, which I found to be really weird, since we normally play it during band camp.
But other than all that, I guess I'm ready sweatdrop

Our drumline apparently sucks this year and could barely play the opener and closer, which are the songs we did at the game, and our drill was still kind of wacky. We also have a load of freshman. We had 69 people last year. about 10-20 were seniors. Now we have about eighty, subtract 1 who is an exchange student. Yeah. That is our freshman count. The clarinets practically are freshman. 3 returners(including me) plus one alternate returner, then 4 freshman. We used to have 5 freshman, but one couldn't march for her life, even working really hard, and so our BD had a chat with her and they decided to switch her to pit.

Ahhh.. yes. In the middle of our first song on the field, I was doing my sabre quad, which I'm uber good at btw, and I got too nervous and tossed it and it landed half a yard line <-- That way. lol. Almost killed another guard girl.

That happened with one of our girls from drumline last year. She was moved to pit this year and loves it. But having so many freshman is a real test of patience. Some of them don't seem very motivated or real enthusiastic about marching band so along with teaching them we have to really try to encourage them, which is hard because some refuse to do anything like practice their music or remember their drill.

Our first game was last Saturday. It went REALLY well compared to the one last year.
I'd have to say the most embarrassing thing was bringing my sticks up on the wrong beat. I did it a measure ahead of when Bassline was supposed to bring theirs up. And this was during the percussion feature so were at the VERY front of everything. It was also aired on live television being that we were at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. So I ended up doing this weird wave thing with my sticks >>; But that was really the only mishap.

↺_↻ Not FIRST game... but freshman year we had this one game that didn't end until 10:30 and my band director thought it would be a good idea to perform AFTER the game rather than half time... and as you could guess I was tired as a ******** so my legs hurt... (We have to dance in the stands every time drumline does a cadence.) So I was in 1st movement doing this really hard back marching part, we were following the leader and I was so majorly twisted up that on the hipswitch i just fell flat on my mofuggin face. Then my asswipe of a section leader decided to tell me off for it after the game, and he actually made me cry. I never cry D; So my other section leader amanda was comforting me and this other nice flute girl. But still... I hated my baritone section leader from freshman year. I wanted to cut his organs out of his body.... GRRRR....

Not first game, but more of third game. So, yesterday we had an away game. I almost died via my BD. I forgot my gloves at school. Normally, I put them with my hat and gauntlets so I have less things to carry, but this time I was too busy so I just set them on top and was going to wile he was sending people out to the bus. Well, I moved my stuff around because there was gum under the seat I was sitting on(we get ready in the auditorium. We have to wear shorts and a current band shirt underneath our unifors) so I was moving to the middle of my 3 seats. Well, I think my gloves fell because I forgot they were there, and I never checked to see if I had them. I didn't realize it until we were on the bus and about halfway there. And of course, who brings an extra pair of gloves on the bus? So by this time I was in panic mode, trying to keep from screaming(we have silent bus rides there) and it got worse when I stil hadn't found some when w e pulled up. The whle time I'm just like "I'm dead. I'm sooo dead! Mr. May is going to kill me! I'm so dead!"(And it was also kind of funny because I predicted my death on tuesday when I fell up the stairs. Yes, up. I has been a long week.) And finnally, we are getting off the bus and the only drum major I like was sitting there waiting to get off and there is a bit of a traffic jam. I say and she asked whats up, and I show her my gloveless hands. "I'm dead." i told her, and she hands me her pair of black gloves, because they have to wear white ones. I am eternally grateful for her now. She litterally saved my life. They were a bit faded and didn't have holes, but it was better then death by band director. i managed to play as much as I could. The more fingers I had down, the harder it was to get the note out. And I know the video we are going to watch to see how we did will have a lot of squeaks, thanks to me, but at least I was trying.

This didn't happen to me at the first football game. It was my freshman year and I left my clarinet in the instrument room because I thought that the two people who were in charge of the instrument trailer were going to take care of it. Well, I was wrong. I ended up having to march with a spare clarinet belonging to opposing school. Of course, I was faking (no mouthpiece), but I ended up having to run three laps for it next practice (I had also been late for inspection). Oh yeah, there was also the time (still freshman year) at a competition when I forgot to pop my clarinet down at the end of the opener. And, oh yeah, I was RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE DRUM MAJOR! *shudders at the memory* Annndd, just last Friday, my shoe got untied in the middle of the opener. Thankfully I didn't trip or anything...

this wasn't my first game, but is was freshman year, anyways it was the halftime 2 min. warning, everyone was putting back on gauntlets and hats and such. all of the sections sit together, so my friend Christina(flutist like me) when she put her hat on her plume knocked off my glasses and they rolled down underneath the stands. i came back in half-though the 3rd song, so i couldn't get back in (we got the glasses back) i stood on the sdelines with the pit and played. XD i loved seeing Christina's smile when her spot came forward right near where i was standing. I had been so worried because the next day was a major competition too!

Not the first football game this year, but our first on-feild performance of the year.
It was raining buckets, and had been for about three days. Seriously, all of us were soaked. Well, the plan was that we would run onto the feild in a sort- of V, with me and the other tuba leading the charge. Then we would stop at the point of the "A" we were making and everyone else would fall into line around us.
But, yes, it was raining, and I totally biffed. While wearing the Sousaphone. Me falling is incredibly obvious in the video. There are 2 tubas then..suddenly...there's only 1 tuba. I got back up and nothing was hurt or dented, so it wasn't too bad, but that was my first time falling down in band.

OH yes. The field was all nasty in muddy so our uniforms were nasty.. Then when you marched on it the field tried to eat you... O_O and we had a bunch of people fall and lose shoes on the first song. So we just stood and played our other 3.. The stands weren't band thank god XD
