Character Info

Name : Errol Bardulf
Age : 52
Gender : Male

Appearance : Errol is an older gentleman of average height and build. His skin is somewhat pale, and marred with occasional scars of varying sizes from his earlier days as a delinquent. Of the two more notable scars, an old, jagged knife wound going from his left shoulder to just past his elbow, is normally hidden by his sleeve. But the other is a pale stripe going from just above his right eye up to his hairline in a diagonal fashion. Most of this one is sometimes hidden behind his scruffy hair, however. He has a sharp, wrinkled face with keen, light chocolate eyes peering coldly from under his thin eyebrows. His hair, cut short in the back and usually left somewhat messy, is a rather faded shade of auburn intermixed with silvery grey. While he never lets his facial hair grow out, he can sometimes be caught with grey stubble during busier times. His wardrobe isn't varied widely. In general, he prefers darker shades of blue and green, but his favorite clothes are of a deep sanguine hue. As far as style, he normally takes to the streets with a more common appearance, but has been known to use a more sophisticated taste when choosing outfits for work. Things that are somewhat loose and flowing are his favorites, offering some contrast to his uptight personality.

Personality : To most people, Errol comes off as a largely unpleasant man. He has been described as painfully blunt, intimidating, sarcastic, stubborn, selfish, and a few other, more inappropriate words. This man doesn’t take nonsense from anyone, especially from students, and is prone to starting arguments and shouting. However, one thing that Errol does have going for him is his wit. It is hard to sneak anything past this old man, as he makes note of the tiniest details, often picking the bones of a conversation to try and discover any deeper meaning. Even at his age, he still loves to learn new things. When he’s not teaching or at a local bar or shop, it’s likely that Errol can be found hiding behind a stack of books in the library. Yes, Errol is often very curt with those around him, student, co-worker, and stranger alike. But if one shows enough dedication to earn his friendship, or at least reach some level of trust, they would discover that he is a loyal, steadfast companion in any difficult situation.

History : In his earliest days, Errol was a sweet lad. While no one who met him now would guess it, he came from a very prim and proper family on his mother's side, and was taught the ways of noble society. It wasn't until his father came into his life that Errol began to transform into the gruff man he is today.
Artur Slaughnessy, a wandering bard with an enchanting accent, wooed the rich, young Melissa Bardulf with song and dance. When she became pregnant with Errol, their differences began to show. He went off to find his fortune so that he could one day be with his son, and the day finally came seven years later. By contrast, Melissa had lost what of her family's fortune that hadn't been squandered already to an awful investment. Close to being homeless, she reluctantly sent Errol off with his father. The boy, too young to object or know exactly what was going on, went with his father with little complaint.
Back in Artur's home town, a problem arose between the father and son; they truly had nothing in common. Perhaps not the world's greatest decision had been made, and the nervous father, having bitten off more than he could chew, turned to drinking and women to solve his problems. Errol, meanwhile, was beginning to change. The combination of his father's poor behavior and being picked on at his new school forced him into fighting. Oddly enough, this was what finally gave him something in common with his father. With the ice broken, whatever high-class virtues that his mother had managed to instill in Errol were well on their way to coming undone. Within a few short years, he had become the local bully and gained an accomplice named Devon Mulcahy.
They were delinquents, often turning to fighting in the streets and other risky behaviors to entertain them. Life seemed like their own cruel playground for years, until Devon began to take ill. At first, Errol had told his friend that he was merely imagining things when listening to his complaints of being out of breath, or having pain in his chest. But when the other boy collapsed during a fight without taking a hit one day, something changed drastically in Errol's mind.... He even thought himself crazy for a while, as he began hearing a voice in the back of his mind.
It didn't take Devon long to take a turn for the worse. His family was too poor to afford any real healthcare, and Errol, being only middle class himself, could do nothing to help. The boys were together when Devon closed his eyes for the last time. The sobering experience stopped Errol's risky fun in its tracks... And he began seeing a strange, glowing creature following him about soon afterwards.
He became reclusive for the most part, even ignoring his father's offers to take him to a few local pubs in favor of sitting alone in the house. The only thing even partially filling the gap that his accomplice had left was the glowing creature, who he learned was named Chisagira. Gira, as he called her, encouraged him to get back onto his feet; to continue doing what made him happy before. Stubborn as he was, though, Errol was not the quickest to take on her advice. He began diving into his studies, slowly rising to the upper levels of his class. Meanwhile, his mother came to visit, his parents quickly got to squabbling over how to "raise him" when she saw how he had turned out. With any raising already done, Errol left the two old folks to fight amongst themselves, using some college that his mother suggested as an excuse to leave. As he set off to Jaradin, Gira was his only companion, by now taking the form of a blurry little owl perched upon his shoulder.
At the college, Errol slowly began to recover from the blow of Devon's death. Gira proudly prodded him on as he resumed his confrontational behavior, but he was much more subdued in it. Along with this, he began to grow genuinely interested in his studies. So many subjects at the school interested him; he was unsure of what he wanted to pursue. Deciding to further his studies before making a final decision, he stayed on at the school as a scholar. He began noticing a pattern in the books he picked up most frequently; his favorite things to study were about the daemons that followed the people of Tarallus, and the world's magicka. It was when Gira finally settled into her true form that the human knew that Jaradin was where he would like to stay. Eventually, he managed to become a Magicka Theory teacher at the college. Errol has faithfully served the school for quite some time, indeed, despite being a bit rough around the edges.
