As you persue the subforums, you will, eventually, come across a tiny blip on the map of the Ink Well that is our Betas for Hire thread.

For thoses of you who don't know,a beta is a person who looks over a work before submission in search of errors in grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Within the Beta thread you may also request and Editor. This is the more challenging of the two jons and therefore may recieve less interest. An editor spends more time on a piece and, unlike a beta, may make suggestions about serious plot, character and setting changes. A beta cleans a story up, and editor gives it an overhaul. However, depending on how serious about your story you are, an editor may be the better decision.

For example, for my fanfiction piece, Trigger Point (check it out in my library!), I would want a beta, whcih I still need to find. I want a beta because I don't want obvious errors in the piece, but I only need a cursory glance given. I like the plot and the story is not likely to change the world.
Now, take Evermore, one of my many novels and the origin of my pen name for example. For this piece, I want an editor. I want someone who will e-mail the same chapter back to me eight times before we are both confident that it is the best it can be. I want someone who isn't afraid to tell me when I'm being ridiculous and when I need to change my plot, characters or book in general. Because of this, your editor should be someone you trust and respect for their writing abilities and analytical opinions.
