Rhine thankfully had not made it all the way down the stairs when he felt his stomach twist in knots. He was able to make it back up the stairs and to the bathroom before emptying his stomach. He reached into his pocket and grabbed the piece of shattered mirror. He flinched when it cut into him. He should have been use to it. It had been this way for a couple of days now (him reaching for it on and off throughout the day). He leaned against the toilet for support. He was beginning to think that he'd never get over the fact that his mother was gone. It didn't take much to tip him over the edge. He looked over and noticed that his diary was pretty much where he had left it last. He decided he'd use it while he waited for his stomach to settle. No sense in going anywhere until then anyways. Rhine My mother's dead. Dead. Dead. She's really dead. Self sacrifice. Going out with a bang in a most noble way. I just wish I had gotten to properly say good bye. I understand. She didn't want to make it harder on any of us that it had to be. It begins- the ripple effect. Her death shattered our mirrors. There is no going home now. And, for those still on the island there is no leaving home. At least for now. And, probably for a good long while. Nothing can be fixed until Natalia stumbles into her mirror... I hardly understand it myself considering she's been told to carry it around twenty four seven. Yeah, she's with us now. Who would have thought. Me a father of four at the age of just over thirty. Two kids, one on the way, and a teen. From diapers to dates... I would laugh but it hurts. My heart goes out to my wife who is also trying to fathom how this is all going to work out. This situation is so ******** up it is funny. No not the kids. The thing with the mirrors. Ripple effect. Everything, was affected. I've never been apart from sisters for any length of time. Yeah they may have annoyed me but still. Soon enough I hope we'll sit down to dinner again as a family (or as close to as possible). What I'm still trying to figure out is how Cassara made it back. She isn't say much past the fact that she succeeded in doing what she set out to do. I guess I am happy for her. More for myself because I don't know what I would do if there were to be another death in the family so soon and so suddenly. At least it didn't take her years like it did her wife. Still I wonder if she is all there at times. She is different. I am unsure if it is good or bad... I don't feel as close to her as I once did. We are separable now and frankly it frightens me. Oh, and Cassara showed up with a surprise (and not to long after her return). She's got a little girl now of her own. Her name is Victoria. As my sister puts it she popped out of a violin. I did mention before that this is the family of ******** up. ******** up in a good way though... I am suppose to go to the bookstore with them... I have always had little to be scared of... But, suddenly everything... It is all overwhelming. I am just hoping that the pregnancy will go without a hitch. I somehow feel that it will happen otherwise. Our luck has been running that way lately. I know they say life has its ups and downs... But, damn you think we could have an extra up with all these downs we've been having lately... Pregnancy is suppose to be a time of joy. Or, so I thought... So where is the joy. Everything keeps getting in the way. Well solve our problems... One at a time. I know we'll get back to where life is good and full of joy. There is joy. The sound of little feet running up and down the hall. Letting you know that they are safe and loved. And a wife to hold and to love. To be loved. That is comfort enough for me, for now. Rhine snapped the diary shut. A bloody hand print left wrapped around the diary from where he'd held it. He sat it on the back of the toilet and proceeded to wash up and attempt round two of going to work.

Keeta followed the nurse into the back, and sat down at the station where the nurse went through all the vital checks: temperature, blood pressure, weight, etc. She kept turning to look at Rhine and smiling. Being here made it a little easier to forget for a moment the challenges they had faced in life recently with Natalia and Ceres. They were going to get to see their baby for the first time!
The appointment had been postponed several times due to the recent events, and it was considerably later into the pregnancy than when she had been able to see Joel for the first time. In a way, Keeta felt slightly guilty, but she understood that she couldn't change the circumstances that had been affecting them recently. At least, they were here now and it was only fitting that there was some joy amongst all the trials.
Things went normally enough as the nurse went through her routines. The only thing that made Keeta a little confused, was the slight flicker of concern that crossed the face of the nurse as she recorded the number on the scale. When nothing was said, Keeta tried to shrug it off as her imagination, and didn't even decide that she needed to share it with Rhine. Why make him worry when it was probably nothing?
Smiling again she took his hand as the nurse finished up and led them to a examining room with an ultra sound machine. She gave Keeta a medical robe to change into and left the room, saying that the doctor would be in, in a few moments.
"I can't wait to see our little one," she said giving Rhine a kiss before starting to change into the medial gown. Rhine had tried his best lately to not let anything get to him. It was hard, extremely hard. Everything in his life was upside down when it was suppose to be right side up and perfect. Just another few months and his parents would be grandparents... Jealous and guilty is how this made him feel. His mom got to be around for the birth and child hood of the twins of Ayisha and Masika. Inwardly he wondered if Cassara felt the same... Like you'd been robbed of something.
He had paid attention to ever facial expression and movement Keeta made. Though a few raised concern he decide not to bring them up since she had not.
He grinned like a school boy when they were being led towards the room. "I bet it is a girl that will look as pretty as her mom," he said as he kissed her on the cheek.
"You want help with that," he said pointing to the strings on the gown. He knew it couldn't be easy to tie something from behind- especially when you couldn't see what you were doing. "What makes you think it's a girl?" Keeta asked, turning her back towards him, so he could tie her up.
"With as big as I'm getting, I'm betting it will be another boy. Although I have to say, this baby seems to be growing faster than I remember Joel growing. But it could just be that it seems bigger and it's actually the same." She shrugged and smiled.
"Either way, I know we are both going to love it, boy or girl." "My family is notorious for having girls whether it be by birth or adoption. Just look at my mom," he laughed. "My sister had twins and lucked up with one of each. But, look at Cassara, the girls are just stacking up. Kinda feel sorry for her," he grinned.
While he chattered on about the family and it's growing amounts of girls he worked on getting her gown together. They seriously need to reinvent these things... they had as much material as lingerie and it wasn't even sexy...
He took a moment to mentally slap himself. Knowing his luck he'd make a move and that would be when the Dr. would come in.
He tried not to frown when she mentioned getting bigger quicker. "Maybe your body is just already prepared that it is one step ahead of where it was last time," he hoped that made sense... he after all was not a girl and had never had babies.
"I love the baby already. Have since the moment we found out," he grinned and wrapped his arms around her and rested them on her belly. "I suppose that's true. You are kind of a lone wolf....being the only boy and all," she said teasingly, resting her hands on his. She tried to steer her mind away from the fact that the matriarch and patricarch of the family were no longer with them.
"And maybe. I'm sure the doctor will tell us that everything's fine," Keeta said, trying to keep things optimistic.
"I know you have Rhine. I know you have," she smiled and turned to give him a quick kiss.
"I just meant that the gender of the baby will not affect how we feel about it." Just then the Dr. came in, a younger woman with blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail, and a pair of glasses resting on her nose. She smiled and glanced down at the chart.
"Hello Mr. and Mrs. Harding. I'm Dr. Tessanne, nice to meet you." She stepped forwards, extending her hand first to Keeta, then to Rhine. Rhine, a good bit tamer than in his pre Keeta years, gave the woman a once over before shaking her hand. He involuntarily snorted and flattened his ears back. "Nice to meet you," he finally said after a moment or two of letting go of her hand. Keeta shook her head and smirked slightly at her husband's reaction to the Dr's greeting. Where other women might have gotten their feathers ruffled, Keeta was slightly amused. She knew there was no harm or intention in Rhine's looking. She looked back at the Dr. as she asked Keeta to sit on the table. Dr. Tessanne motioned to Rhine that he should make himself comfortable, before she started getting into the usual preliminary questions with Keeta. She asked about any concerns, questions, etc. Keeta was a little concerned about how large she was getting, but part of her thought it might just be herself and not the baby that was getting big, so she decided she would wait until they got to the ultra sound to bring that up. She shook her head and didn't say anything to the doctor. Squeezing Rhine's hand, however, she turned to him.
"Did you have any questions, hon? I know you haven't had a chance to come with me to my earlier appointments.

Almost There!RP participants: Kawaii_Hime_Ceres, Keetabirdy, ~Kiana_Nala~ Keeta opened the door to the clinic, emitting a sigh of relief as the air-conditioned air hit her. It had been warming up a lot as summer got closer and being pregnant only had a tendancy to make things more intenstified.
She held the door open and glanced behind her, the way she'd come, looking for her husband. After a moment when she still didn't see him, she stepped inside. He'd be there before anything important happened. Rhine wouldn't miss out on something like this. After making her way to the counter and signing in, she sat down and picked up a magazine. Tenanye slightly flew down to the enterance of the GMFC. This was the first time she was coming to the large clinic, and she wasn't sure what she should do. She definitely wasn't ready for a child at this time in her life either. Tenanye took in a deep breath and opened the doors to the clinic. As she stepped in she instantly smiled, all the wonderful paintings and child art made the clinic a little less intimidating. She quickly went up to the counter, folded in her wings against her back and signed in. Tenanye was hoping that this meeting would ensure that she was indeed not pregnant, but she was also wondering if she even could get pregnant. Tenanye had DEFINITELY not been as cautious as she wanted to be with her mate Montier. In her tribe everyone was mated, and not married. There was a intricate tattoo that matched his on her wrist, which showed that belonged to someone.
After she signed in she sat down in a chair two seats down from a woman with blue hair. She smiled kindly before she noticed that the woman was pregnant. When Tenanye looked down at her belly she blushed. The woman was HUGE, she never knew a woman could be so, so, BIG! Tenanye looked up at the womans face. The woman was definitely a elf, although she didn't know much about elfs because this was her first encounter with one.
"How far along are you?" She asked politely. Tenanye felt like her head was going to explode from all the pressure of a first meeting in a new place. Keeta looked up at the question and glanced over at the new face. She smiled politely, having been used to this question lately. It was good that she didn't know the woman's first impression of her though, because she would have been blushing furiously, although she was able to guess to an extent. Keeta was already self-concious about the size of her belly, but with the baby being half-dragon, it wasn't as big of a surprise.
"I'm eight months, but I expect to have the baby any day now. We're planning on determining when with the doctor today." She massaged the over-sized bump that was their little girl. Keeta smiled absent-mindedly. They would get to meet her soon. After a second, she glanced over at the woman again.
"Are you expecting?" she asked, trying to keep her tone light, hoping she wasn't overstepping any boundries. Tenanye smiled and nodded. "I'm sure she is going to be lovely!" She said joyfully. She wasn't very good with talking to people about babies, or anything of the sort. She shook her head and patted her flat stomach.
"I don't think I am. Although, who know's anything is possible. I haven't exactly been.... caustious?" Tenanye said as she lightly rubbed the back of her head.
"Today was mainly about finding out if I am and to find out more about the clinic and what it has to offer." She said with a slight nod. She was nervous to find out what the doctor had to say to begin with. Tenanye HATED doctors, she was afraid that they would do a bunch of useless tests on her just for the fun of it.
"Sorry. I'm a bit nervous to hear what they are going to say... And I REALLY don't want them to stab me with needles. She said with a somewhat fearful voice. "Well she's going to be bigger than my other one was either way," Keeta said with a nervous chuckle.
"But that's her daddy's fault, as he's a water dragon," she said in a tone that indicated she didn't think it was his "fault." It was just a way of explaining it.
As Tenanye explained why she was here, Keeta nodded knowingly. She had been in the other woman's position once before, when she had been pregnant with her son, Joel.
"I understand about being nervous and such. I'm not afraid of the needles like you, but I've been in your position before....Not knowing, and not having been careful. What outcome are you hoping for?" Rhine usually didn't have a problem getting away from the cafe for a day or even two. It happened more so now than before but no one complained. It wasn't a typical cafe staff, most of those who worked for him had been with him since day one (and three moves later)... they were more like his extended family. But on today of all days just as he was fixing to leave an unexpected party of 20 had come through the door. He wasn't about to turn any one down simply because he had to go which would make the staff short handed. So, he had put back on his apron and some hour and half later when everything was settled again he was heading out the door... this time with more luck than previously.
It took him longer than normal to make it to the clinic as he hated cars and no longer had his 'mirror'. But, finally here he was, as promised. "Sorry I'm late," he said as he entered the building. He hadn't even looked around yet to see who was and wasn't here. He wrapped his tail loosely around his leg as he closed the door behind him.
It only took a second for him to spot his wife. He was somewhat if not mostly back to his old self before his life got turned upside down some seven or eight months previous. He proudly wore his goofy grin. "Hello," he said politely to the other lady, that he guessed his wife was talking to. Keeta turned towards the door, when she heard it open and felt the warm outside air invade the coolness of the clinic's waiting room. She felt her face break into a grin when she saw it was her husband. Reaching up an arm, she invited him into a hug and kiss.
"I was beginning to wonder where you had been honey," she said, the smile never leaving her face.
"But don't worry, you haven't missed anything. I just signed in a few minutes ago." It was around that time that the short little Keikancho-Jin entered the clinic with his new daughter. She was propped quite happily in the crook of one arm-wing, and her little eyes were huge as she inspected everything with a infant's curiosity. Ke'rehl signed them in as just coming for a routine check-up, and then settled himself across from the two women, hopping up onto the tall chairs, legs dangling, tail wrapped around to the side of him. Mi'ako was soon seated upon his lap, though not for long. Her curiosity soon got the better of her, and she was forcing her father to raise up his hands so she could practice standing. Her dark grey eyes were trained on the two women, her tail wiggling a little at its thin tip. Her clawed feet gripped her father's feathered legs quite tightly, till Ke'rehl hissed and set her back down on the floor, holding her little pudgy hands tightly.
Giggling, Mi'ako enjoyed the click her claws made on the laminated flooring, and made wobbly little supported steps. She chirruped a few times, and was lifted back into her father's lap, where she promptly started to chew on one of his fingers, her little sharp teeth having started to come through, making a little more painful then it used to be. Ke'rehl hissed a little again, and Mi'Ako gave a friendly little tweeting giggle, and, holding on to her in one arm, he reached into the bag he had brought with him to find her favourite treat. A slice of partly frozen jerky was brought out of a plastic bag within the baby-bag, and given to her. She started to gum on it mercilessly. Ke'rehl laughed, and, infant finally settled, gave a wave to the two ladies in the clinic waiting room also.
"Hello there. You wait for doctor too?"Tenanye smiled to the man that walked into the clinic with a warm smile. "Hello to you as well. I'm guessing that you are... her husband?" Tenanye said hesitently. She hadn't even gotten the womans name yet. "I'm Tenanye. Tenanye Faust." She said with friendly smile. Tenanye was a kind person, although sometimes her words would come out all scrammbled and even sound mean. She was also a somewhat shy person, and her mind wandered more often then she liked.
Tenanye smiled at the man that come in with his young daughter. Her mood pricked up more when she saw the fuss the baby was giving him. She lightly laughed. "Hello to you as well. And yes, I am waiting for the doctor." She said starting to feel nervous and sick again. Why did she have to get so freaked out over the word doctor? "Your daughter is so cute! How old is she?" Tenanye asked curiously with a large smile. Even though she didn't think she was ready for a baby herself, she always had a soft spot for children. Everytime she saw one she had to resist the urge to play with them while there parents were busy doing something. Tenanye waved to the small infant and swooned slightly. He eagerly wrapped his arms around Keeta, showing an almost protective stance as he did so. It couldn't be helped. It was just natural. The further his wife got the 'worse' he got when it came to protecting her.
"Sorry, Love, that I'm late. Just as I was leaving the bottom fell out and I couldn't leave them hanging or turn a group of people away. Got things taken care of as quickly as possible so that I could still get here and not miss anything or at least not much at all," he kissed her before sitting down.
He glanced over at Tenanye and then smiled, "Nice to meet you. I'm Rhine Harding." From where they were sat, the two Keikancho-jin were quietly awaiting their names to be called. Ke'rehl couldn't help but listen to the chatter of the three adults, but he was polite enough not to get too involved; after all, he had not been invited to talk, and even if he did, he did not speak english well enough sometimes for people to know what he was trying to say! On his lap, Mi'ako gnawed happily on the slowly defrosted slice of jerky. It smelt good to Ke'rehl and when Mi'ako saw him looking, she flicked it into his face, chubby hand still gripping the other end. Ke'rehl thanked her, and nibbled it with his sharp teeth. She grinned and started to gum it herself once more. It took a moment for Ke'rehl to realise he was being spoken to, and as he looked up, he noted the lady with the fairy wings looking to him
"Oh! I sorry, I not hear you! How old is Mi'ako?" Ke'rehl thought for a moment, wiggling one of his hands in a replication of his old hand-speech from his home on the frozen tundras, a gentle rocking back and forth of the palm, the middle and index fingers drawn into the palm, the thumb and other two fingers outstretched. "She must be close to her one year of age, but the exact month I not know off top of my head. My mate, Jiao'lan, she would know it. I was not in Gaia when the birthing happened. I back home, visiting family." He smiled, and looked to the two mated people. He had to say that the girl seemed familiar, but he could not say why. "I sorry, have we meet, missus? I recognise you, I think, but not knowing where?" He smiled a little nervously. Mi'ako gave a large squawking shout, a mixture of an excited child's cry and a bird's screech. Ke'rehl gasped at her, and her large, dark eyes looked at him with joy, and she flung the jerky back into his face, the tip bouncing off of his nose. He took half of it into his mouth, and widened his pale eyes. She chirruped her cute little giggle and he laughed around the food-item."Really love, it's not a problem. You're here and that's what matters." Smiling, she turned back to Tenanye.
"And I'm Keeta Harding," she said, also filling in her name for the woman. Keeta was suprised at herself, not intorducing herself earlier, but then again, she figured her mind must just be full to overflowling with baby things. Watching the woman, she followed her gaze to the Keikancho-jin adult and child who had just entered, and her face broke into a wide smile.
"Mi'ako!" Keeta said with excitement, standing and walking over to the father and daughter pair. She looked down at Mi'ako with a gentle expression, before meeting Ke'rehl's gaze.
"I'm Keeta, Jiao'lan's friend. I'm sure you've seen me around from time to time. That's probably why you know my face. I'm sorry I haven't been around as much lately. Things have been....complicated....at home with the pregnancy and some other things. Mi'ako has gotten so much bigger since the last time I visited!" "Woo!" the gasp wheezed out, clearly a sound of exhaustion, or perhaps just too much heat. Not that the little man expected any pity--wearing a long sleeved black jacket and then whining about how warm it was tended to earn more scorn than sympathy. Besides, it was his fault anyway. He KNEW he'd needed to do the laundry, and he'd just ignored it... Thus, when he'd discovered that he had no more clean "light" sweaters that morning he'd also known he couldn't rightfully complain. Unfortunately, he'd decided to go on his walk anyway. It seems the miniscule fairy was having troubles with logic.
Attempting to cool off by fanning his face, Omirao looked listessly around. Aw, crap, he sighed mentally, closing his eyes as a quick, preventive measure. Why had he walked over here? He KNEW how he got around newborns, and now here he was... at a maternity clinic. Dang! Almost every passersby around had a child either in their arms or bouncing along behind. Well, at least he was less likely to be stared at. The GMFC wasn't just an ordinary maternity clinic--quite a few of their patients were "special cases"; thus, he wasn't the weirdest creature bouncing around the lot.
Leaving was probably the best option at the moment. He had enough difficulties with being accepted; he didn't need some defensive mother beating him or having him arrested for being a weirdo creepster at her children. His eyes opened, wandering disobediently towards the clinic. But...
It was SO hot outside. Besides, he was already here! He knew the GMFC dealt with a lot of species; perhaps they'd know something about him. They may even know how he could... Jiao'lin had said they were miracle workers, and from her story, they must be. Maybe he could finally find some answers here, instead of walking in the dark!
Taking a deep breath, Omirao gathered his courage and walked inside. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust from the bright outside sun to the less vibrant light in the waiting area, but when it did he immediately broke into a wide, happy smile.
"Keeta! I don't believe my luck!" he laughed, waving. He didn't recognize any of the others (excepting Mi'ako, who he didn't dare look at from his last experience. Besides, he'd never met the man holding her), but he remembered Keeta clearly. "Do you remember me? I believe I showed up at a birthday party a while ago..."Ke'rehl smiled and bopped Mi'Ako on his knee a little as she chirruped happily at the mum-to-be. She waved her jerky to her a few times, and then proceeded to gum it to death once more. Ke'rehl chuckled a little, and nodded his head at the lady, finally realising why it was he recognised the woman somewhat.
"Forgive, I not remembering faces well currently. I am Ke'rehl Shan'ro, though I sure you know. Though good sleeper, Mi'Ako likes her early start, and today not an exception. I see you are haru--- I mean, you pregnant again. You have son, yes? Joe... Joll... Forgive, I forget name right now!" He smiled apologetically, his sharp little teeth meeting and looking a little more menacing then apologetic, but Mi'ako let out another shrill tweeting giggle as she spied her father's smile. Scratching the back of his head in a nervous gesture, the fingers of his other hand still gripping Mi'Ako around her middle to stop her flying off his lap with all the attention she was getting, he watched the new man walk in and greet Keeta.
Mi'ako let out a bubbling squeak sort of sound at the sight of the new man, and from the sounds of it, he must have been at some party Ke'rehl had not made it to in his brief excursion to he and Jiao'lan's homeland. The jerky seemed forgotten as it was swung around more like a baton then a food item. Ke'rehl felt his cheeks warm a little. How unaccustomed he was to social situations!"Really love, it's not a problem. You're here and that's what matters." Smiling, she turned back to Tenanye.
"And I'm Keeta Harding," she said, also filling in her name for the woman. Keeta regretted not having more time to spend over there at her friend's place and with the child, but life had been so crazy....At the voice of Mi'ako's father, Keeta's gaze traveled upward and met his face.
"Yes Ke'rehl I know who you are. And you're right, I have a son named Joel. He's at daycare right now, learning how to be more social. It seems to be doing him some good. Don't worry about the names and such. You're doing well for us never really having talked much before," she said with a warm smile and a wink.
"I hope you and I can get to know each other better though. I don't feel like I've been paying Jiao'lan enough attention of late. But as you accurately noticed, I'm expecting another child...and very soon at that. We're going to be talking to the doctor today about when they want me to deliver. I'm afraid with daddy being a dragon, the doctors are worried if we wait until the baby chooses to come, she might be too big for me." Keeta looked over at her shoulder and smiled at her husband, reassuring him that this didn't bother her. As she did, however, a voice greeted her with enthusiasm and she turned toward the source.
She recognized the fairy from Joel and Natalia's party, but the day had been rather a blur, chasing after small children and such and she was afraid she couldn't remember much else about him, including his name. She blushed and looked down for a moment embarassed. Clearing her throat, she tried to regain her composure and smiled at the man.
"I do remember seeing you from the party. How have you been? I see you've found your way to the clinic. I remember you and Jiao'lan having a conversation about it..... but..... I'm sorry, I'm afraid I don't remember your name." She offered him an apologetic expression, running her hands over her belly and wincing slightly as the baby gave a kick. Rhine stood up and glanced around the clinic before walking over to his wife. So much had happened in so little time that he hardly remembered many faces. He didn't want to but into the conversations that were going on. So, he was content to stand behind his wife and just give an occasional nod or smile. Whoops! He just realized he was interrupting. His normal grin diminished somewhat in a brief embarrassment before he waved it away and listened (jovial smile back in place) to her greeting. Oddly enough, her admittance that she couldn't recall his name didn't seem to bother him in the slightest; rather, he seemed slightly amused. "Ha ha, no, that's okay. I think we only talked for a minute or so before my attention accosted someone else..." he chuckled ( somewhat nervously, if one listened closely. Did his eyes just flick towards Mi'ako? ), "I'm Omirao. I think I gave your little ones the jars of dust..? You still have those, right?"
Sometimes if he didn't explain them in full, people would just throw them away. Other times, someone would see that the dust sparkled kind of prettily, and just stuffed the jar on some shelf, believing it to have been meant as a decoration of some sort. Omirao couldn't remember if he'd explained them to Keeta or not. Really, he'd been quite intoxicated by the tykes and had left a bit early to prevent... something. He really didn't know why he'd felt so nervous. Maybe these doctors could help him figure out why he had such weird urges about other's children? It had been getting worse lately. Perhaps he was some kind of ticking time-bomb; or perhaps simply not knowing was the cause of his recent discomfort. Either way, he was turning into a nervous wreck at this rate. He was so wierd, who knew what kind of madness his species could be vulnerable to? He'd already been almost jailed once for his unique intoxication...Ke'rehl watched the male fairy with a little curiosity. He seemed very nervous of the Keikancho-Jin, which wasn't exactly a surprise, after all, Ke'rehl was a male of his species, and with the impressive array of horns and claws, he may well be considered a dangerous creature. He offered a somewhat soft smile, or at least, as soft as small spiky teeth could offer to him. Mi'ako, on his lap, was yawning hugely, noticing that the adults around her were going to start that loud chatter thing. Instead of whining, she re-found her love of the jerky her father had given her, which had melted some of its frozen heart, and was a bit softer. Releasing one of her excited trills, much like a parakeet given a treat, she promptly stuck it into her mouth once more, her little sharp baby teeth that had come through in a few places making short work of it.
"Ah, yes, that is right. I remember the name Keeta from Jiao'lan now. I not aware of your second pregnancy; possibly Jiao'lan not knowing yet? Something fun to talk about come evening meal!" He smiled and nodded to her, allowing those around him to continue to chat. He took a little while to get used to the grammar that was being used. He had fallen short of fully grasping it, unlike Jiao'lan. Hand-speak, as he was used to from his time in the Tundra, was not so complex. Grammar was a difficult concept for someone that had not often spoken of the past, or the future, only of the present. "It is nice to meet you all. It has been long since I have left my de---- house." He corrected himself just in time before making a fool of himself, and a slight reddening of the cheeks was all that betrayed his mistake.Keeta smiled appreciatively when he didn't seem upset by the fact that she couldn't remember his name, and tried to commit it to memory when he told her what it was.
"Ah yes, I remember your gifts. I'm afraid they're still packed in a box somewhere...." Keeta said, trying to remember exactly where they'd ended up when she'd moved in with Rhine. She was pretty sure she'd placed them in a box with other fragile and/or decorative things that hadn't gotten put out yet. With all the insanity of the moving, wedding, Natalia, and now baby, not everything had gotten unpacked. Besides there was something to be said about keeping breakable stuff out of harm's way, when one had several small children.
"I didn't want them to get broken with things getting shuffled around and all, so they haven't made their way back out yet. They're very pretty. Thank you for your thoughtfulness." Keeta was among those who thought they were simply decorative. Omirao had been correct in thinking he had failed to explain what the dust really was. Smiling, she turned back to Ke'rehl.
"I told Jiao'lan when she was at the wedding, so she should know. But maybe she just forgot to tell you. The way I hear it, Mi'ako has been challenging at times. She had mentioned to me that her molting was hard on her." She tried to look sympathetic.
"I bet she'll be excited to know the baby is almost here though. You can share that with her over your evening meal. I'm glad you were able to make it out here. Mi'ako certainly seems to be enjoying herself, and that jerky!" Keeta chuckled and then glanced over at Omirao. She'd been him as she spoke to Ke'rehl, shifting un discomfort as she noticed how tense or wound he seem to be. He definitely seemed off-kilter at the moment. Mi'ako seemed to be making things worse for him.
"Are you ok?" The male holding Mi'ako (her father, likely) smiled. Well, it looked like a smile; his teeth were a little sharp for the expression to really soften his predatory image. He was holding the little girl so gently, however, that it seemed odd that he would be unfriendly. Then again, he knew a lot of people who only had softness for certain others... Well, Jiao'lan had been kind. Omirao decided to give the intimidating man the benifit of the doubt, relaxing slightly. He was about to ask after Jiao'lan, but...
Oh, she was so cute! Joyfully gnawing that small bit of meat, chirping and tweetering in sweet happiness. It looked like her plummage would one day be just as glorious and rich as her mother's. She was bigger than when he'd last encountered her, of course. Oh, children grew so fast! He should--
Omirao jumped, bringing a hand to his forehead with a startling abruptness. What had happened..? It felt like he'd blacked out, again. His breath quickened slightly, reacting to a faint wooziness. Wha..?
Someone was talking to him? Oh! Keeta?"Are you ok?" She was looking at him a little strangely. Then again, she had good reason to!
"I... Ah, no, I'm fine, I really... I'm fine. Life is good! I'm not sick, you know, 'cause my skin. Never b-been sick in m-my life, right? Ah... I think... Is there a receptionist to this place? I'm a little... Confused? I... I think I'll go sit over there," he stammered, his distraction clearly evident. Struggling to contain himself, he quickly walked over, wings fluttering, and sat in one of the plastic children's chairs by the toys. Once settled, he stared around blankly for a moment, then looked back at Keeta. "I really am fine, I swear. And it's impossible for me to get sick, because I have healing properties, so you don't have to be nervous about germs and... And... The jars? Have some of my healing properties in them, too..." he rambled aimlessly. Clearly, something still had him at odds end.
Hopefully he wasn't ruining anyone's day. Hopefully the doctors here could find out why he'd been so anxious lately.

She's here! Our darling little girl is here! I can hardly take my eyes from her to write this, yet I want to commit my feelings to the page, so that I can remember them later. Emerald came into the world in the middle of the afternoon on May 31st, healthy and wailing as any newborn should be. She certainly has her father's strength and seems no worse for the wear, not having what would be considered a full term pregnancy for your average humanoid. Her appetite is certainly healthy, although I can't say she is as easy to nurse as Joel was. She already has these little needle-sharp teeth! Emma, as we are already calling her for short, has this adorable mop of greenish-blue hair and my eyes, but there's no mistaking her daddy! She has these cute little wings and tail, as well as a small horn that will no doubt get bigger as she grows. I'm grateful that we opted to do the surgery like the doctor wanted. I doubt that either Emma or I would have fared very well if I had tried to do things the "natural" way. I'm sure of course, but I will heal and both of us are safe, which is what is important. They're keeping us a couple days for observation, but we should be home easily before the weekend. You should have seen Rhine's expression when he held her for the first time. It was love at first sight. I wish I could truly capture the awe and wonder I saw on his face, but there are not words to adequately describe it. He has hardly left our side, but I finally talked him into going home to take care of the other children. They weren't alone of course, but still having one parent gone for a longish period is hard enough without having both of them gone. Besides, Natalia is still not entirely herself, and while I wish I could trust her to watch Joel and Camille for long periods, there remains a fear that something will happen unexpectedly. There are moments when I think she remembers, but then it is gone. I wonder how fit a "mother" I am being to her, especially now that I have a newborn on my hands, but I am doing the best I can. I suppose that's all Ceres could really ask of me. I miss her, and I wish she could be here to see her granddaughter, but it is not to be. Somehow I know that wherever she is though, she's smiling and keeping her eyes on us.
