Yes. Most definitely. Getting paid to go to football and baskeball games?
Yes, please. Just, please God, no parades. :/
Do a lot of college bands pay their members? haha I feel stupid for not knowing, but we don't even get course credit in our band, so the idea of getting paid is kind of amazing. xD
And there are no parades for the most part...though I hear we're doing a parade for the bowl game this year. It's going to be interesting learning parade marching for the first time since high school.
Most schools pay their pep bands (I get paid to play at women's volleyball and men and women's basketball games.)
I haven't heard of anyone being paid for football games that were part of the marching band. I'm not sure how it works with schools that just have pep bands at their games (mostly D3 or whatever their designation is now.)
I highly recommend college band to anyone who has the opportunity.
While I do know someone who quit after a year because the only thing he liked about marching was the competition (he was from LDBell so that should tell you something if you keep up with BOA and UIL) but people from his school still stay on for years. I never competed in high school (no funding) so I never miss it but the few bus trips we have are so much fun (the flutes have our own charter bus with the staff so the Directors have to listen to Disney movies muwahaha.)
In college band people are there because they love band (unless they're music majors, in which case many music ed majors are required to do their time) and so it's a more fulfilling experience.
Even the parade(s) aren't horrible. My team- as usual- failed this season so no bowl game but we marched homecoming and it wasn't bad. We mostly just sleepy so all we want to do is go back to bed (homecoming stretches=15mn naps) but it's a relatively short parade, only 2-3 miles.
