A Wandering Esper

Beloved Stargazer

"Well, won't you look at that." The teen seemed rather amused, to say the least. "It's a cute one. I don't think I've seen one with star markings before, but then... Animals in gaia tend to take to any colors that fit their fancy." There were certainly zurui that fit in the description of natural colors, but there seemed to be many more that did not.

"I wonder what his name will end up being," Hoshi mused thoughtfully, as he put the kit down on the floor. After a moment, it shot off after its agemates, leaving the fa'e watching it with a smile. "And who will look after him."

"I think this one's going to find a home rather quickly." Gaians liked stars. A whole lot. It was kind of hard to not notice.

The one kit in his lap darted as the other did, but with a little extra - with one purple orb safe in it's maw. Sei jerked to catch the kit as he noticed, but the little beast was a whole lot more agile than he was, and the fa'e missed his mark with a somewhat embarassing delay, leaving the part hovering about his body wobbling slightly and with a very evident grap. "Hey ! Get back here with that ! Oh, drat.... not again."

Hoshi snickered, then chuckled, then laughed outright, unable to quite help it as he moved to look for where the zurui kit might've taken the orb. "Does this happen often?" he asked, more amused than he could admit at the idea, and he had to wonder... were zurui like magpies, to like and steal shiny things?

"Very often. If it's not zurui, it's crows, and if it's not crows, it's people" He gave a clearly exaggerated roll of his blank eyes. Little kids, in particular... Especially where he worked. They would grap them while he was shelving and the parents refused to have the brats hand them back.

"Do they come back on their own?" Hoshi asked curiously, amused by the thought of birds swooping down to steal his son's orbs. Shiny things indeed...

"They don't." Ha, wouldn't that be handy ? "Once they get too far away, I can't control them anymore."

In fact, he didn't seem to mind demonstrating, bringing one orb to his hand and, with a few flying sparks, split it in two slightly smaller ones. Apparently that shock had been enough static to make some of the kits comically poof up from the energy as if they'd been rubbed on a balloon. Aha, revenge !

Hoshi laughed at the sudden puffballs of fur, the split orb reminding him a little painfully of his stars. "Have you recovered all of them before?" he asked, wondering if any had ever gone missing... or been gifted away, as he used to gift his stars. And at that thought, he moved to get up, walking over to where the zurui kit had taken the orb and reaching down amidst sharp teeth to get it back for Sei.

"Not really." He shrugged. It wasn't such a big deal, especially since he could just make more. It was just a bit annoying sometimes. "There's quite a few still at large. Guess they'lld make pretty good marbles." The returned orb started to float right over Hoshi's palm once he returned close enough, spinning a little as Sei seemed to consider it.

"You can keep that one if you want." He finally said. "Or the kits can... It's big enough so I don't think they can accidentally swallow it."

Hoshi thought about that for a moment, then smiled, closing his fingers around it. "I think I will," he decided, offering Sei a smile. "It will be a good memento of my first meeting with my son." Still holding the orb in a gentle grip, he sat back down. As he started to ask something else, however, Mireille ducked her head back into the shop.

"Um... I hate to ask, but... I don't suppose you two would like to continue this back at my place? Or maybe arrange for another day or something? It's just that Robin called and I need to head out of town for a couple of days, and I still need to go home and pack and get on the road," she explained, her voice apologetic.

"That's fine." Sei said with a nod of the head toward Mireille. "We probably should get going, anyway... it's getting kind of late." He couldn't see his guardian, but he could only assume she was still nearby.

Hoshi rose, smiling quietly at Sei as he held out his hand once more. "We'll talk again soon, then." he asked, rather than pushing for more time for them to talk right then. As much as he might've wanted the conversation to continue, it could definitely wait. Especially, he decided, now that he was back to stay.
