Since you wanted the focus to be on the boy's dream of flying, I think you somehow make the composition of the piece to draw the viewer's eye to the boy. Right now, it's as if I could draw a line right down the middle and the near parallels of the boy's arms and the bird's wing divides up your "canvas". This is just my opinion, but maybe you could remove the bird, and draw one or two smaller ones that look like they're flying above him. (since the boy seems to be looking up n__n )

I don't know how complicated you want this piece to be, but consider putting some shadows and highlights (in that order ). It will make your image pop. (though keep in mind about the light source..) I suggest that since it seems to be very airy and nice kind of mood, don't put too many harsh shadows..
