Accesories: A dark red rose always tucked behind one of her ears.

Personality: A very extroverted person, nice, gentle and innocent – at first! She seems optimistic and tries keeping everyone around her calm and happy at all times. While giving lesson she talks about theory from an objective point of view, however, when speaking of examples, she makes up the most horrifying and cruel events one could imagine – all with a smile on her face. She talks about anything serious in an almost sickeningly cheerful way (injustice, killing…), if it’s something she’s supposed to support (though she doesn’t believe Hollow need to be necessarily exterminated in an instant, she talks about it happily, because Central 46 expects her to support this view). She startles people with her cruel and blunt statements, which contradict her expression. Her light and breezy voice, make her seem comforting and motherly.
She is very compassionate and would do anything for her school and students (she might even disobey the court’s orders, if they would be put in danger). But even if she tries protecting her students at all cost she doesn’t tolerate them disobeying her staff (they are the people she chose and she trusts them with all her heart).
She has an abnormal love for sweets. She is also fascinated by anything non-Shinigami (she supported the Bount rights, now the Vizard, wants good relationships with the Quincy etc.).
She refrains from using physical violence for as long as she is able to endure it (she will even let herself be cut by the opponent without fighting). However, if her students or staff are put in danger she releases ‘the beast’ – her expression becomes raw, her light voice becomes a threatening growl and she focuses only on killing the opponent (happens very rarely).
She formed the Shinigami Academy to prepare her students as good as she can for the work in the Gotei 13. She also established a committee in the Academy, to decide which squad the students would be suited for best.

Bio/History: Little is known about this woman to normal people.




Zanpakuto name: Ketsueki no Bara [Bloody Rose]

Zanpakuto spirit: : A small girl, not older than 6, 7 years maybe. Her skin is badly burned, deep cuts cover her arms and legs and there is a bloody hole in her chest, where her heart was supposed to be. One can see it was coarsely cut out, the edges of the hole being unevenly torn. Her face, also badly burned and cut, is mostly covered by her long black messy hair. Her eyes seem emotionless and blank, no irises can be seen – she is blind. She runs about the castle, laughing like a maniac, searching for the remains of her fellow villagers. Every once in a while she finds an arm or a leg, happily embraces it and starts devouring it bit by bit: first the skin, then the flesh and even the bones in the end. Ren pities the girl and tries talking with her whenever she can. However, when she asks the girl something, the answers she gets don’t make any sense – she just babbles about nothing.


Spiritual world: The remains of a medieval castle and the village surrounding it, after an attack. Looking at it from afar, one can see that while it was still standing, the castle had to be magnificent. Now however, the walls are torn down, wooden houses are burned to the ground, everything is covered with ashes and blood. Moving through the remains, one can find limbs torn from bodies, bloody weapons lying on the ground and few patches, still on fire. The decisive battle seems to have been fought only minutes before. The only sound one can hear is the crackling of burning wood, wind blowing through the stone walls and a menacing laughter from the spirit residing here.

Zanpakuto element: Blood?

Sealed zanpakuto appearance: In its sealed state, Ren’s zanpakuto is a Nodachi, an extremely long and heavy two-handed Japanese sword, similar to a katana. It’s about 40 inches long and weighs about 3.3 pounds. The nondachi is not a cutting sword per se; its length and weight enable Ren to simply fold her opponent under its mass. The blade itself has light streaks all over it, flowing from the hilt to the tip, resembling droplets of water flowing down its length. The hilt is wrapped in black leather, a small, deep red colored kanji for ‘blood’ being the only real hue on the weapon.

Release phrase: “Jinsei Norou!” [“Curse the human nature!”]

Shikai: While holding the Nodachi in both hands and commanding the release, the sword violently breaks apart forming two Tessen: war fans made of steel. Being 12 inch long in their closed state, they’re an efficient defense against low to mid-level kido and long ranged pointed attacks (like Quincy arrows for example). She can use her attacks by performing ritual moves wither fans.


1) Kongen [root]: The ritual move starts by Ren holding the fans open in her hands, while letting her arms fall to her sides. She then quickly raises them, so they’re outstretched parallel to the ground at the height of her chest. With this move black roots burst from the ground below her opponent and entangle their limbs. By closing the fans and violently pulling her arms toward her chest, she can decide how firm the roots wrap around the opponent and/or pull them to the ground.
2) Heta [stem]: The ritual starts similar to the first one, accept that while Ren’s arms are at her sides, the fans are closed. She then again raises them quickly, but this time to her sides. Black stems entangle the opponent’s whole body: limbs, torso, even the head. She then opens the fans and thorns shoot out of the stems, burying themselves deep into the opponent’s skin, making them bleed heavily.
3) Dentan [leaflet]: Raising the fans above her head and opening them, leaflets made of steel form at the ends of each fan. Waving them around, Ren can send the small leaves flying toward her opponent. Mid-flight the leaves start circling, making them resemble circular saw leaves. If the leaves hit, they may even saw through an Arrancar’s Hierro.

Bankai: Closing the fans in her hands and yelling “Hanasaku!” [“Bloom!”], the fans burst open like a flower opening its crown. Blades shoot from the remains, which turn into the hilts of the two new swords. The blades’ color and texture make them seem as if they already soaked in blood. The weapons’ special ability is, that the more blood Ren has spilled, the stronger her attacks get. Combined with Ren’s blood red reiatsu color, their appearance and the tribute Ren must pay to become stronger during a fight, these blades really deserve the name Bloody Rose.


1) Ueru [grow/thirst]: Hitting the bottom of the hilts together and pulling them apart, Ren can produce a barrier field around herself and the people she wants to protect. However, the more people in the dome, the more blood has to be offered to the weapons: either from Ren, the people she’s protecting or her opponent.
2) Hanshoku [breed]: The swords’ blades crush into thousands of pollen-like red spores, which fly through the air producing a red fog, disabling the people trapped inside from seeing, hearing or smelling. It affects everyone trapped inside, without exception (also Ren). It’s purely a defense technique, since it doesn’t hurt he opponent by itself (not like Senbon Zakura of Heineko!).
3) Suishi [wither away]: Absorbing an enormous amount of reiatsu, this is Ren’s ultimate technique. The blade’s hilts form thin, needle-like extensions, which stab Ren through the skin, connecting directly with her reiatsu flow. When she uses this technique, she cannot control how much of it the swords will absorb from her. Slashing into the air with the blades one after the other, a large, deep red X forms. The reiatsu X then strikes the opponent (hopefully finishing them off), Ren faints, falls to the ground and literally “withers away”, because of blood loss and a low reiatsu level.

Kidou: 1-40, though she couldn't say she ever mastered them - she relies more on her physical strangth and zanpakuto

Abilities: Ren is a master of Flash Step. Because of her history (which is unknown) she knows how to wield any weapon you give her. On the other hand, though she has learned a great number of Kidou, she’s not to apt at using it. Also, no matter what kind of weapon she is given, she is able to use it.

Expectations: She expects her students to take their studies seriously, so they'll be prepared for the Gotei 13 after they graduate. On the other hand, she wants them to have fun, not getting too stressed out - they're all still young and should enjoy their lives (one of the reasons why she likes to organize different events for the students to attend).
