So I'm working on a story, the basics of it are there's these seven people far off in the future who've been recruited by the army to be converted into super-cyborgs; this being a not intensely cyborged future. So the seven characters have super powers, and all of them are based around the manipulation of space to whatever end, the one guy can manipulate things at the subatomic level, his sister can detect things many lightyears away, it's all a balance of finesse over power, and Boris is the most outright powerful (and thus incapable of much finesse).
But Boris is a really stereotypical strongman name! Plus I'm going with the burly Russian man image; Though the story takes place so far in the future, some year 2400~, I've not specified it yet, that the Earth is dead, there is no Russia, and our nationalities have really faded away from meaning (the regional genetics is still there but they wouldn't call themselves Russian or even likely know what Russia was). Enough with that rant.
So I need a befitting name for a strong military man of Russian decent, other than Boris.

Gedeon. It's a Russian equivalent of a Hebrew name meaning 'warrior, one who cuts down'. It has a few other equivalents, one of which is Gideon.

ooo, Gideon, I like it! It's fancy, fairly unique, and appropriate, all at the same time.

Something you might find useful:
Name Database
It's an absolutely HUGE site, and you can search by the meaning of the name as well as other things, so it really comes in handy if you want that extra layer to your character.
Say, if you typed in "star", it would come up with, in a whole bunch of languages, every name with either the specific meaning of star or a meaning that had something to do with stars, like "starlight", or "morning star".
Mind, this is just to help out in the future; I say stick with Gedeon =3

Quote: The thing you've never seemed able to grasp, Ivan, is that it's not you executing the lab mice that bothers us, it's the show trials you stage beforehand to "prove their counter-revolutionary imperialism". If you don't go with Gideon/Gedeon, you could take Ivan Gallagher (the name of one of 27's badasses, a Russian strongman with a cyborg arm. Because he's the avatar of a machine god. biggrin ).

Ivan's never struck me as a strongman's name, it's more of an evil man's name, smart guy who likes to rule and cause pain, so it'd fit for Olen, but I like 'Olen' so I'll stick with it. Though technically Olen 'was' an evil b*****d, now he's brainfried...
