@->->---- Ashlynn Fervine ----<-<-@

XXXAshlynn's eyes lit up at the mention of Loy. With how many thieves and bandits and whatnot that decorated the place, she was almost certain that some stupid man looking to prove himself, or some small arm of a guild looking to get higher in the ranks, would try mugging them. That brought a small, eager smile to her lips. It was not at all a 'good' smile, but more of a smirk at the thought of the fight that would ensue.

XXXShe sat beside him hesitantly, still not quite past the boundaries that had kept her from trusting people previously. She leaned against the cave wall and allowed her eyes to close as she listened to him speak. It had been awhile since she had gotten a good night's sleep. The fear of a knife in the back, or across her throat should she sleep soundly kept her sleeping light and for only a couple hours at a time.

XXXNow though, Ashlynn felt safe. As if Io would never betray her and would at least try to take care of those that would. A small part of her hoped that she was right, and that same part would be the first to say 'I told you so' should he ever turn his back on her. "Have you ever traveled in a party before?" Her eyes snapped open as he asked; she'd almost been asleep.

XXXShe took her time in answering. She HAD traveled in a party before, but she had only done so to get closer to the leader of the party, who was an undercover Barthulian soldier. He had been quite important to the armies as well, for her provided information on the thieves and whatnot of Loy. "No... not really."

xxxIo had figured that was the case, he also noticed how tired she must be, as when he asked his final question she shook her herself as if trying to stay awake. He wondered if he should tell her that they were there already, or if he should let her get some sleep. He decided on the latter, seeing that rest would be needed before heading out into a city full of thugs and thieves. The thought also reminded him of her smile when he mentioned Loy, a smile looking for a fight. It wasn't uncommon, but nonetheless, it disturbed him slightly that one of them was actually looking for a fight. Hopefully, she wouldn't be the one to start it.

xxxInstead of talking anymore though, he just sat and watched the fire, giving time for Ashlynn to fall asleep. Even though they were already on the island where the kingdom of Loy lurked, the cave looked no different and felt no different either. He wondered if she had noticed the only thing different, the slight hint of salt water that slowly lingered in the cave. He had decided that if and when she fell asleep, he would begin reading his memory book, trying to find out more information from people that were too difficult to simply answer his questions.

XXXAshlynn's eyes closed slowly, as if against her will. She leaned more heavily upon the cave wall and relaxed visibly. Soon, her breathing slowed and she was fully asleep. It was, however, by no means a peaceful sleep. She was restless, her eyes roving beneath her lids. Somehow, she ended up leaning against Io; she touched his shoulder and immediately calmed. The effect was instantaneous, as if she was calmed by the mere fact that someone whom she could trust was there by her side.

xxxWith his free hand, Io reached into his bag and pulled out a midsized piece of fur. He then carfully put it over Ashlynn, making sure not to move much while doing so. Afterwards, he once again went into the bag and pulled out a book. It had a black cover and binding, and was filled with scribbles of all sorts when he opened it up. Memories that were not complete often got muddled with everything else, and made it difficult to read through. He only got through a couple of pages when he decided to put it away, there was nothing significant it seemed with the man he gathered the memories from. It was probably something to look at another time, when there was nothing else going on.

xxxLooking over towards Ashlynn, Io smiled. At first, she seemed frightened; scared. Now, she was at peace, sleeping as if she had known him for her whole life. He slowly moved a few bangs from her face, taking in her peaceful features for just a bit longer. He then wondered if he should go to sleep as well. In the end, he decided against it, and to stay awake until Ashlynn rose from her slumber. The shadows danced around them as the fire burned playfully in the center of the cave, and Io himself felt at ease watching the display.

XXXAwhile after she had fallen asleep, she awoke with a start. As she sat up, she looked around, as if uncertain where she was. Like a little child waking up in a strange setting. She looked at Io and then looked down at her hands. "Oh, uhm... sorry. I- I didn't mean to fall asleep." She started to explain more... that she hadn't slept in awhile; but she stopped.

xxxIo smiled as Ashlynn stirred from her rest. She was a little lost at first, but when she came to, she seemed to avoid eye contact with Io. She then apologized and began to say somthing, but cut it short. "Oh, it is quite alright. It allowed me to stay silent for once." He was unsure if the joke was appropriate at the time, as she hadn't known how talkative he could be yet. Or maybe she had and he just didn't know. "Anyways, were in the kingdom of Loy, but about a day's journey from it's capital city."

xxxHe stood up and began packing away the small fur blanket. Io had it folded neatly, and flattened it before placing it in his bag. "Anything you need to do before we set out? There should be a stream nearby if you want to freshen up, I just pray you come and retrieve me when you finish."

Meri was next to a stream. Or, more accurately, she was sitting on a rock by a stream near a weird cave with her boots off so she could wiggle her toes in the water and stare at them. She'd only ripped those leather boots of second ago - by this point they smelled mostly like sweat and pain - to see that she HAD in fact developed the blisters she'd wondered if she'd gotten, and they HAD in fact popped, and, adding to the fabulousness of the occasion, some of her skin had rubbed off.

Lucky for Meri, she'd been near this handy dandy stream, and had finally had a chance to take a break. In fact, she was nearly delirious with the happiness that only the feeling of soothed toes could bring. She wiggled them for the sheer delight of it.

On the other hand, though, she was in Loy again. Loy, the kingdom notorious, at least to her, as being the only place that could make her feel physically sick. All those nasty people and their clever little tricks. She splashed one foot grumpily in the water.

She was about to splash again when she thought she heard a voice saying something. Something about laying and refreezing? No, that was wrong. Fray and reprieve? Stray and retrieve?? It sounded like it had come from that ugly old cave - it had been a little echo-y and really cave-y sounding. She peered suspiciously at the mouth of the cave, a few meters away, thinking. 'Anyone could be in there right now. Even a dangerous assassin or something totally unlikely like that...'

In the interests of not getting into some sort of unhappy situation, she tried not to make anymore loud noises - and then her backpack broke open a spilled a whole lot of nuts, bolts, wrenches and other assorted tools, making for a nice, loud cacophany as they slipped and banged their way down the pile of rocks she had set her bag on.

Meri decided to not move. Instead she tried to think invisible. Just in case whatever undoubtedly terrifying thing that was in that cave [why hadn't she made sure it was empty??] had heard the sounds and was going to eat her or something.

XXXSome faint sound reached Ashlynn as she placed her bag on her back, settling it noiselessly in between her shoulder blades. She quietly drew a blade and moved to the cave, motioning for Io to be silent. She twirled the six inch dagger in her hands, contemplating her next move. Normally it would be an easy decision; but that was when she traveled by herself. But from Io she got the impression he wouldn't appreciate her rushing to investigate, and possibly attacking, whoever it was that made the sound.

XXXShe stood a moment more before sighing and looking back to Io, awaiting his decision. "Your move." A part of her snarled, angered at the fact she would defer the decision and not just go ahead on her own. She fought that part of her down though, she hoped to come to trust Io, and to do so she had to fight her learned instincts.

xxxIo had just scanned the area, it was a fairly small person, probably female, and through all the small tremors, felt like they had dropped a few things. Walking up towards the mouth of the cave, stopping by Ashlynn, he spoke out loud. "It seems you have made quite a mess out there. Would you like any assistance?" He was already able to tell that he was far more welcoming than Ashlynn, but that was probably a difference in life styles. Now he began to step outside, and looked over at the girl doing her best to stay silent and to not be noticed. She would have done better if there was more cover near her and not just a few small pebbles and grass.

xxxLooking back into the cave at Ashlynn, Io was trying to hold back a laugh, "Don't worry, I don't think we have anything to fear from this one." In fact, she seemed more of a danger to herself than anyone else. He shook his head slowly with a smile on his face as he turned back to the girl. There was a sigh as he went over to help her pick up her stuff before it all falls into the river.

XXXAshlynn stood a moment at the mouth of the cave before coming to a decision. She would trust Io. She followed him slowly as he approached the girl, a part of her wanted to draw a weapon, but she easily; perhaps too easily, ignored that instinct and stood behind Io as he helped the girl retrieve her things. As she stood there, completely relaxed and at ease, some of her master's lessons came back to her. She heard his voice in her head and relived the blows he had delivered at the same time. 'Never trust anyone, they will betray you if they are able. Do not let down your guard for that is inviting a dagger to the back. NEVER lose a mark, do not let him live.'

XXXAshlynn winced as these resurfaced. She trusted Io, she let down her guard; sleeping while in his presence. And she let the Tin Man live. These were the most important lessons Master had taught her, and yet because of this Io, she forgot them, cast them aside. She was a fool, in every sense of the word. She should not be there. She should be in the desert still, she should have- No, that was her Master speaking, not herself. Io... Io had become a friend of sorts. Those thoughts had no place here. She had changed, for the better... she hoped.
