Yeah... it's pretty excrutiating. It's why I build my own PC's but then when something fails it's entirely your fault and you have to deal with it. Sometimes sending it in, even with a wait, is better than driving around looking for parts and then troubleshooting it for days when it does something stupid.
I agree though, I hate them all D:
I remember when my power supply died it was under warranty. I had to ship it to California though... $90 shipping. I just bought a new power supply.

You pay good money for something, You expect some real good support you know. My gf bought real fancy furniture. we bought it slightly damaged. We went on the site, told them what piece it was, and then send it to us, by ups. Free of charge. That's how it should be. x.x

We had the same thing with furniture. A piece was scratched and they sent a new one without asking for anything, not even a receipt. I guess one difference is that computers fail all the time while furniture not nearly as much. It's kind of sad all those Dells, etc. sell themselves on service...

If Dell was going to take a while to get through, at least it would have been in fairly good shape when it got to you.
Me, I'm biased against HPs. Yes, they're cheap, but I fix more HPs than any other computer that gets brought by me in tech support. They're crap. If you're buying something HP, they make great printers, but crap computers...

That pretty much sums up my views on them.
Personally, I've had the best experience in terms of hardware support with apple (when there aren't douchebags at the "genius" bar), though yeah, the computers are more expensive. Otherwise...Toshiba wasn't all that bad. Dell sucked, as did Gateway for me.
I'm still perfectly willing to say ******** computer companies though.
My last desktop was built by my dad (before I knew how to do it) and it lasted for 5 years before finally crashing and burning.

Yeah, that is a bit of a problem.
Except that I now have an XP boot disk for just that reason. Over the weekend I should finally go and finish installing it onto here so I can go and grab a few more games.~

Yea.. my HP laptop had a defective harddrive from the start when I purchased it at Best Buy a couple years ago. And a defective fan.
It took so long to deal with customer service, because their damn calls were outsourced and I could only call after I got out of school at 2. I'd call, spend a few hours getting transferred and put on hold, only to be told the department I needed to reach had closed while I was waiting. After a week I got them to send me a harddrive, which had been used and was extremely defective. The case itself was bent to all hell and couldn't even fit in my computer. I don't see how they thought it was okay to send that out. After another week of dealing with them they sent me a box and I sent them my whole laptop. When I got it back, there was a deep scratch across the cover and keyboard. They claimed it could have happened during shipping, but really? The keyboard? I don't think so.
HP. Horrible Products.
