The Different Races
(Don't worry there will be more added later)

User Image

HYLIAN RACE
The Hylians are a human-like race in the country of Hyrule. Their appearance differs from that of humans in that they have pointed ears, like typical fantasy elves. The best-known Hylians are the legendary hero Link, and Princess Zelda. Hylians were the first race to establish organized civilization in ancient Hyrule, though in Twilight Princess, the Oocca are said to have aided them. Unlike several other races in the series, Hylians tend to live in highly populated cities. The term "Hylian" generally refers to a member of the Hylian race, as opposed to "Hyrulean", which refers to any inhabitant of Hyrule. According to the A Link to the Past, Hylians were born with magic-infused blood, endowing them with psychic powers and skill in wizardry. It is also believed that the Hylians' pointed ears allow them to hear the messages of the gods. Despite their appearance, the word "elf" is never used in the Legend of Zelda series, as it's an incorrect way to refer to them.

SHEIKAH RACE
The Sheikah, or Shadow Folk (Not to be confused with the Shadow Race), are a secretive, magical race devoted to the Great Goddesses. They swore loyalty to the Royal Family of Hyrule, perhaps due to their religious convictions, as the Princess of Hyrule oftentimes functions as a sort of "priestess" of the Goddesses. The Sheikah are recognized by their distinctive red eyes, and the Sheikah emblem they usually wear. The only verified Sheikah also had pure white hair. The Sheikah emblem is a single eye with a tear drop. The Ocarina of Time manga, which is not canon, states that the emblem used to be a single eye until the Sheikah tribe was betrayed, and the tear was added.

KOKIRI RACE
The Kokiri tribe is a group of children-like beings that live under the leadership of Mido and the protection of the Great Deku Tree in the hidden Kokiri Forest, deep within the Lost Woods of Hyrule. The Kokiri dress in Kokiri Tunics, and have guardian fairies which look over them and seem to be a gift from the Great Deku Tree to the Kokiri. Link's mother brought Link to the Great Deku Tree when he was a baby, and asked it to care for him. After Link's mother passed away, the Great Deku Tree decided to raise the Hylian baby as a Kokiri. The Kokiri were created by the Great Deku Tree and therefore, their homes are built not too far from him. It was said that the Kokiri die if they leave the forest. However, at the end of Ocarina of Time, the Kokiri are seen in Lon Lon Ranch along with other characters to celebrate Ganondorf's defeat. Because of this, it is theorized that the story is of metaphorical nature. If a Kokiri leaves the forest, they do not die immediately, but might be killed without the protection of the Great Deku Tree, and therefore eventually die if they do not return.

KOROK RACE
The Korok race is a race of wooden people with the ability to fly. The Koroks are known as 'The Children of the Forest' and are watched over by the Great Deku Tree, who resides in Forest Haven. The Koroks are said to have once been the race of humanoid children-looking creatures called Kokiri, but by the time they meet a young Link upon the Great Sea, they have taken on wooden bodies. The Koroks became these creatures when they gave up their human selves for the ability to fly, with the help of an item called a Deku Leaf. Once a year, a select group of Koroks go out into the world to plant trees. This is done so that one day, the sea will retreat, and the Old Hyrule will be restored. This is preceded by a large ceremony, with music provided by a Korok named Makar. He remains in Forest Haven to practice this music for the entire year on his violin to prepare for the show. Meanwhile, another Korok named Hollo studies potion-making in an area of Forest Haven.

SKULL KID RACE
The Skull Kid is what becomes of children getting lost in the Lost Woods and appears in Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess. They first interact with Link in Ocarina of Time, and later a Skull Kid plays a major role in Majora's Mask. Skull Kids dress in a red cloak and hat covering an underlayer of clothing comprised of a straw-like material, and play a flute, which they can also use as a weapon to shoot projectiles. In Ocarina of Time, a Skull Kid can be found in the Lost Woods, in the area directly to the left of the entrance room. Whenever Link approaches, the Skull Kid will disappear from the area. To circumvent this, Link can befriend the Skull Kid by playing Saria's Song while standing on top of the stump across from the Skull Kid's position, and he will receive a Piece of Heart as a gift. In Twilight Princess, the Skull Kid leads Link through the Lost Woods portion of the Sacred Grove until he reaches the resting place of the Master Sword. Along the way, the Skull Kid plays a cruel game of hide-and-seek with Link, and Link must find him several times before he will lead him to where he needs to be. Due to the fact that he knows Saria's Song, it is possible that he is the same Skull Kid from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

FAIRY RACE
Fairies are a race of creatures that have appeared in every The Legend of Zelda game to date. Most fairies are small creatures with healing powers, and they usually fly by means of delicate, insect-like wings. Their appearances vary from game to game in some games, such as Ocarina of Time, they resemble small orbs of light with four wings, while in others they take the form of tiny winged human females. Fairies usually have one of two roles in Zelda games. First, using their healing powers, they can restore some of Link's health when he is wounded. The second role held by Zelda fairies is that of a traveling companion. Some games also feature beings called Great Fairies. Great Fairies are much larger than regular fairies, being the size of a full grown Hylian (or even larger), and they almost invariably resemble the winged women form of fairies (the only exception to this rule is the case of the Great Fairies in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, who resemble beautiful women and can fly, but have no visible wings).

MINISH RACE
The Minish (or known as Picori by the rest of Hyrule) are a small race of people no bigger than Link's thumb nail. A long time ago, the Minish gave the Hero of Men a sword of unparalleled power; the Picori Blade. They also left behind the Light Force for the Royal Family. Their help is celebrated annually in Hyrule through the Picori Festival. Every one hundred years, the doorway between their world and the world of men appears in the courtyard of Hyrule Castle. That doorway is also the entrance to the Elemental Sanctuary. They have only appeared in The Minish Cap. The Minish are well-known for their kinstone hiding capabilities. In wanting their human counterparts to find them, they place them in various obvious, and inconspicuous places, and even keep some for themselves to fuse with Link when he comes along. Not visible to the eyes of adults, they delight in making humans happy by hiding helpful items and Rupees under grass and rocks all over the world. (This may explain why, throughout the Zelda series, items can be found by slashing grass and throwing rocks.)

TWILI RACE
The Twili are a race of beings who inhabit the Twilight Realm. Most of the inhabitants are turned into "monsters" known as Shadow beasts or shadow messengers, under Zant's evil rule. Eons ago, the Twili were a group of dark sorcerers of unknown ethnicities referred as Dark Interlopers, who were sent to the Twilight Realm by the Sages of Hyrule as punishment for their misgoverned attempt to use old magic to claim the Triforce. Their "old magic" became known as the Fused Shadows, a powerful instrument, however, their powers proved too weak for the power of the gods. They were banished and their Fused Shadow was split into four pieces and scattered throughout the two realms, The Twilight realm and Hyrule. This tribe lived in the Twilight Realm for centuries until evolving, mere shadows of what they once were, the Twili tribe became used to their surroundings and came to accept their fate. While some came to love the beautiful peace that can be found only in Twilight, it drove some of it's inhabitants mad. After centuries of rule, Princess Midna became just one of many rulers in a long line of royalty, the Twilight Princess.

GERUDO RACE
The Gerudo are a race of humans introduced in Ocarina of Time. Gerudo Desert is named after them, which was their home in said game. Typical Gerudo traits are round ears, a prominent nose, tanned skin and red hair. The race has an Arabic theme and seems to be based on the Amazons, a "real world" tribe of warrior women. The race consists of almost solely women, with a male being born only once every hundred years. It should be noted that this is only stated and the exact nature of this phenomenon is never explained, leaving many questions unanswered. In order to reproduce, the Gerudo take boyfriends from other human races.

User Image

RITO RACE
The Rito are the race of anthropomorphic birds that inhabit Dragon Roost Island, the volcanic island located in the Great Sea in The Wind Waker. One Rito postman appears in Phantom Hourglass . The Rito serve the role of mailmen, as they, because of their ability to fly, are most suited for that job. A big part of their island is used as a Post Office. The Rito are said to not always have been creatures of the sky. The Grappling Hook is a remnant of those days. The Rito (still) aren't arboreal by birth. They need to get their wings from the Sky Spirit, Valoo, by visiting him and receiving a scale from him. this also seems to serve as a sort of coming of age-ritual. It was confirmed by Eiji Aonuma that the Rito were indeed evolved Zoras.

User Image

ZORA RACE
Sea Zoras are a race of hospitable ocean-dwelling creatures.Sea Zoras are normally found near or in large bodies of water. Their skin color lies in the white-blue-gray area, although brown/red also is a possible, though seemingly rarer variant. Most individuals (but not all) have fins attached to their arms and a tail at the back of their head (making their head alone look like a fish). More commonly, the Sea Zora are simply called Zora. This name was taken from an older aquatic race, the River Zora, who also are more commonly called Zora. In fact, the name Zora was the original name of both races.

User Image

GORON RACE
The Gorons are a race inhabiting Hyrule, Termina and several other countries. They generally live in or under mountains. Their build gives them the ability to roll down mountains like rocks. Gorons are capable of walking through lava and withstanding extreme amounts of heat. They also tend to possess immense strength and power. Goron's bodies are also extremely durable, and they are able to roll into balls as a way to traverse land. Besides their rock-like appearance, another notable feature is that their diet consists strictly of rocks. Some Gorons are known to be skilled smiths, notably Medigoron and Biggoron, of which the latter is responsible for creating the Biggoron's Sword. They are also known for harvesting bombs from Bomb Flowers. Bombs are sometimes called the Goron's Special Crop. Gorons can also become extremely large like the previously mentioned Biggoron, towering above all other races. Often, though a friendly race, Gorons are slow to trust outsiders unless they can somehow win the trust of a Goron elder by performing a feat of strength, skill or intelligence. Gorons are one of the most consistently present races throughout The Legend of Zelda series, along with Hylians. By the time of The Wind Waker, other major races such as the Zora, Kokiri and Deku are nowhere to be found, presumably having either evolved or have migrated. The Gorons have also been noted by fans for the lack of identifiable females.

TINGLE RACE
Tingle made his first appearance in Majora's Mask. He wears green tights accented with red, and appears in various The Legend of Zelda games to help out - usually in bizarre ways. He is a talented map maker. His catchphrase is the supposedly magical words Kooloo-Limpah. In Majora's Mask he states that he invented these words himself, and asks Link not to steal them. Tingle's obsession with Fairies is explained in two ways in Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland. Firstly, Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland's Tingle seems to get romantically involved with a Fairy "princess" named Pinkle. Secondly, according to Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, Fairies are Uncle Rupee's archenemies. Uncle Rupee is the manifestation of evil Rupee power (greed/egoism), while Fairies are the manifestation of good Rupee power (charity/altruism). As such, a Tingle that chooses to fight Uncle Rupee will find themselves closely aided by the Fairies. According to the game, Tingle is not a person, but a state of being; a curse that can befall every living being.

SHADOW RACE
Everyone has a shadow. Everyone has a dark side. This is the Shadow Race. The Dark Mirror in Four Swords Adventures is said to be the source of all the Shadow Links. It is said that one can look into the mirror and pull out their dark reflection. (This means every character has a shadow, not just Link) Ganon obviously did this, and stole the mirror, because all of the Links came from this source. The most common description of the shadow race are They are the mirror image of a preexisting person or creature except that they have colorless clothing, black skin, and glowing red eyes. Shadow Link, Dark Link or whatever you may call him has appeared in several games including The Adventure of Link, Ocarina of Time, Oracle of Ages, Four Swords Adventures and Twilight Princess.

User Image

WIZZROBE RACE
The Wizzrobe (misspelled Wizrobe in Majora's Mask) is one of the more commonly recurring The Legend of Zelda enemies, known for teleporting randomly and throwing energy balls. They can only be attacked when they attack, as only then they become tangible. Wizzrobes usually have the appearance of a colorfully-robed wizard wearing a pointy, wide-brimmed hat. They've appeared in The Legend of Zelda, The Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, Four Swords, The Wind Waker, Four Swords Adventures, The Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass and the lesser known Philips CD-i, Zelda The Wand of Gamelon.

User Image

MOBLIN RACE
The Moblin is the primary muscle of Ganon's army. Common as foot soldiers and quite unintelligent, they've been around since the very first Zelda game where they started as anthropomorphic bulldogs. By Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, they were combined with Butablins, and took on a more piggish appearance. Other related species include the smaller but more intelligent Bokoblin, the tiny Miniblin, and the more militaristic Bulblin. Moblins have appeared in most games in The Legend of Zelda series, except for Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, and Phantom Hourglass.

User Image

REDEAD RACE
ReDeads are zombie-like monsters similar to Gibdos which debuted in Ocarina of Time and have appeared in every console game since, with the exception of Four Swords Adventures. While their appearance changed from game to game, their behavior has remained relatively the same - namely their tactic of freezing targets in their tracks with a petrifying scream. ReDeads are quite slow, both in walking and recovering from an attack, making them fairly easy to slay. In addition, when a ReDead is slain, any other ReDeads in the area walk towards and crouch beside the fallen ReDead until its body fades away, ignoring Link and making killing the whole group easier; this behavior is never explained in the game, although plausible explanations could be that they are mourning its death or even eating its corpse.

User Image

STALFOS RACE
The Stalfos (or Stalfos Knights) are skeletal knights that have challenged Link since their debut in the original The Legend of Zelda. They are the only enemy to have appeared in every game in the The Legend of Zelda series to date. The name Stalfos is both singular and plural (variations such as Stalfo and Stalfoses, etc. are incorrect). Their name is a portmanteau of stal- and -fos; meaning skeletal (see stal) humanoid (see fos).

User Image

DARKNUT RACE
Darknuts are recurring enemies in The Legend of Zelda series. They premiered in the first The Legend of Zelda. They resemble a large knight, equipped with heavy armor and a large sword. Darknuts are notoriously difficult to defeat, and are considered the hardest non-boss/non-miniboss enemy in the game. Darknut may be a mistranslation of "Dark Knight". They are very similar to the Iron Knuckle. There are few discernible differences, one being the Gothic appearance of Darknut's armor as opposed to the somewhat Eastern appearance of the Iron Knuckle's armor. Darknuts are also more similar to humanoids, where as Iron Knuckles are closer to empty shells. Apart from that, the two have never appeared in a game together. Additionally, since Ocarina of Time, Iron Knuckles have wielded two-handed axes while Darknuts prefer swords or maces. Early Armos Knights also mimic the behavior of the Darknut.

User Image

IRON KNUCKLE RACE
The Iron Knuckle is one of the toughest sub-bosses Link will have to defeat. It swings a mighty axe that deals devastating blows to whatever comes in its way. If Link is hit by this axe, he will lose quite a large amount of life energy. In Ocarina of Time, Iron Knuckles are associated with the Gerudo. Though quite similar to Dark Nuts, Iron Knuckles are empty shells powered by evil, whereas Dark Nuts have a physical body.
