WICKED: Surprisingly Steampunk
By 'read the wind'

The hit Broadway show, Wicked, has recieved much attention since it's released. It has been praised for the music, the story (originally a novel), the set, and of course, the actors.

But it would take a member of Steampunk society to keenly realize something else about Wicked, it is subtly Steampunk! Take a look at the set. A current theme running through the stage is gears and Victoria mechanics. Also note the costumes are highly Victorian-inspired. Here is an example of some of the Emerald City citizen and other ensemble costumes.

I haven't seen the play, but that would make sense considering the tiktok religion discussed in the books.

There was also a little clockwork creature called Grommetik or something who was a nasty bit of work.

I got the screenplay from Barnes and Nobles but I never saw the play itself. I want to see it even more now.

Oh, Christ! It's Ben, a friend of mine's, favourite musical.
I've been wanting to see it for some time now.
...I'm even more tempted seeing this.

I love that Wicked does the traveling show thing, but it gives me over in Oregon a chance to see it without having to go to the other side of the country to see it on Broadway.

I've seen it in the Westend! It was fantastic! biggrin

The scenery was wonderful and I was struck by the wonderful costumes. Incidentally, Threadbangers interviewed the costume designer, she explains how she did some of the costumes and stuff.

i've wanted to see that for the longest time, but now that i'm even farther away from broadway, i don't think i will.
i did try reading the book, but i found out that i just can't bring myself to push through gregory maguire's writing.
it was almost like trying to read it for a school assignment. ;_;
