Hahaha this was written back when I was in High School Sad huh! This was Written two years ago in Creative Writting. I wrote this during my Writers Block. It sucks. But It was my submission for my Short Story.
These are my familiars by Amanda Remick
There my familiars, Silver wolf the wolf, to give me the speed and insight of the wolf and Silver Wing the eagle, to give me wings to soar past my faults and obstacles. Cried Silva, as he transformed into a winged angel. I cannot allow this Silva, cried Alaruka. Vernon lay there on the floor of the living room next to his brother, Lafayette. He looked up at the TV and then at his brother, seeing the childish sparkle in Lafayettes eyes as he watch the show. Youre so childish, bug. Vernon sneered as he walloped his brother on the back of the head. Im Telling mom! Screamed Lafayette as he got up quickly and ran into the kitchen to tattle on his older brother. If I have to tell you little shits one more time to stop beating on each other, I am going to make it so that you dont watch anymore TV for a very, and I mean VERY long time yelled there mother so that Vernon could hear the threat. Now off to bed.
As they walked up the stairs, Vernon sneered at Lafayette. Good Night, Bug he scowled as he walked into his room and slammed the door. Lafayette stuck his tongue out at the door in which his brother entered and looked down at the floor, where he noticed his brothers new shoes, he picked one up and laughed as he walked into his room for the night. An alarm goes off as you hear Vernons mom scream from downstairs, VERNON WAKE UP, YOUR RUNNING LATE." As the lanky 59 boy rolled over and stepped out of bed. He made his way to the bathroom, considering the messy state his room was in he accomplished this fairly easily. Lafayette walks out of his room and presses his ear to his brothers door, listening to the sound of the shower, he then runs back into his room and grabs the shoe and throws it down the laundry chute as he heads downstairs for breakfast. After a speedy shower, Vernon faces himself in the mirror, applying a very generous amount of gel into his hand; he proceeds to rub it all over his ice blue hair, making it stick up in a series of 1-inch spikes. Then realizing what time it was grabbed the bottle of rubbing alcohol and ran into his room scrounging around for his sliver UFOs and his 6 Feet Under t-shirt. In his frantic scrounging for the basics of school, Vernon realized he was to meet Chymera, his girlfriend, so that they can walk to school. Mom, Wheres my other shoe? yelled Vernon, as he walked outside his room to place his shoes on and realized that only one was there. I dont know, did you check your room? yelled his mother as she handed Lafayette a plate full of scrambled eggs and sausage links. Lafayette sat there in the kitchen, quietly snickering to himself as he heard the sounds of Vernon tearing apart the house in search for the shoe. Noticing that Lafayette had indeed taken part in this, his mother turned around. What did you do with your brothers shoe? I threw it down the laundry chute he claimed as he tried to refrain from laughing. At that moment Vernon appeared in the doorway of the kitchen with a bloodlust look in his eyes as he walked by to the basement stairs grumbling to himself, got his shoe and walked into the kitchen. Your breakfast is on the counter there mom said as she walked out of the room and into her room. Vernon leered at his brother as he slammed his fist into the side of Lafayettes head. You little s**t. Touch my stuff again and Ill kill you, said Vernon while grinding his teeth. Im telling mom you hit me Lafayette screamed as Vernon walked out the front door, running into a mean looking Chymera. In the most annoying tone of high-pitched squeakiness ever, Vernon got the normal morning, running late nag. Youre always making us late Vernon, why cant you ever get your lazy a** up in time? Its not like you have anything important to do. And you do realize this is your senior year. Suddenly in almost a violent tone, Vernon screamed at Chymera. Why cant you just shut the ******** up. You nag me every day and every day I tell you to shut up. I would think even YOU would get the hint. Lowering her head in shame, Chymera looked up at Vernon and softly spoke. You scare me now. Not just right then but lately. You have become for forceful and violent. You hardly speak to me anymore and you ignore me at lunch. As her tone got lower she grumbled, Is there someone else? Someone better? Vernon looked toward her and as he noticed the tear in her eye, he wrapped his arm around her, grasping her close. I am sorry for the way Ive been treating you lately, a lot has been going on at home and well Im just having trouble dealing with it. You shouldnt worry about us, you know I love you. Vernon gently kisses her. And I will always love you. Vernon gave her one more kiss as they walked into the school building and into there respective classes.

By the time second period came around, Vernon had already lost all interest in everything and was already falling asleep in class. As he lay there slouched in his chair, drawing a picture of Chymera, he looked up into the hall. Ignoring everything that his teacher was droning on and on about his gaze was fixed upon what he saw. In the hall a young boy was staggerly walking along, blood trails dripped silently behind the young boy. Vernon’s sleepy gazed turned to terror and shock as the young boy stopped in front of the open class room door and stared at Vernon. Letting out a faint smile the young boy continued to walk away, Vernon jumped out of his chair and tripping over his feet as he ran into the hall, scrambled to get to the young boy. As he stood there in the hall looking in all directions, his teacher came out of the classroom and with a great tug, grabbed Vernon and held him still. “ What is your problem? How dare you interrupt my class and run out into the hall causing all this commotion. Explain your self young man” yelled the teacher, trying to hold Vernon still from running off. “ I saw him. He was walking in the hall, tails of blood; he smiled at me and kept walking. I had to make sure he was ok.” Vernon said in a trembling yet calm voice, as he finally calmed down enough for the teacher to release his grip. The teacher’s gazes on Vernon turned from a sort of rage and anger to concern as he listened to Vernon speak. “ Vernon, There is no blood, there is no kid. Maybe if you didn’t sleep so much in class you wouldn’t have these Delusional nightmares and think that there is a child walking the halls in a bloody mess.” The teacher let out a scoffing laugh as he imagined a child walking around the halls. “ IT WASN’T A DILUSIONAL NIGHTMARE” screamed Vernon. “ HE WAS THERE, I SAW HIM. I WASN’T ASLEEP NOR WAS IT A DILUSION. HE WAS THERE! I SAW HIM, THE BLOOD, THE SMILE EVEN THE CHUNK OF HIS HEAD THAT WAS MISSING.” The louder and angrier Vernon got the more attention it called to the classroom. Teachers, students and administrators were standing in the hall watching the spectacle. Vernon kept getting more and more upset as the teacher got angrier and angrier. Finally the teacher walked into his classroom and pulled out a referral and wrote Vernon up for insubordination, disruption to class, and walking out of class without a pass, along with other things. Vernon walked back into the class room and gathered his belongings as the teacher handed Vernon the referral and had one of the administrators who were out in the hall escort Vernon to the principals office, incase he decided to skip out of the building or try to get rid of the referral. As they walked through the halls, Vernon kept his head lowered looking towards the floor. He was trying to ignore the administrator’s gaze at him. He was so frustrated that no one would believe him that he saw the child walking through the halls. And now everyone thought he was crazy. The walk to the other side of the building was a very long and quiet one. When they were about half way, Vernon stopped for a drink of water, as he looked up he saw the boy again. His face turned a pale white as he saw the boy stopped at the end of the hall looking at Vernon. The child smiled at Vernon and waved at him in a beckoning manner, as if he wanted him to come closer to tell him something. Vernon took off running toward the child and after four or five steps was yanked back by his book bag by the administrator. “ What is your problem Vernon? You’re usually a fairly good student. I’m disappointed that you would try to run off like that. Especially with me standing right here.” The administrator said in a stern voice. “ I saw him again! He was right there!!” exclaimed Vernon. “ I have been standing right here and I saw nothing. You just better shut up and stop acting stupid. Act your age not your shoe size ya know.” After hearing the administrator say that Vernon lowered his head again and they continued to walk. The whole time Vernon kept quiet as he thought about the child and how much he wished that someone would believe him. They arrived at the principal’s office. The administrator walked in and handed the principal the referral and talked with her for a moment. As he walked out he looked at Vernon, “ She will see you when she’s done with her appointments. Just sit there and please try to behave.” His gaze changed as he walked out into the hall, looking back at Vernon as he sat there in the chair, hand between his legs, he sighed. Then continued to his office. Vernon sat there looking down at the floor and ignoring the passers by as they talked about how he was the one who caused all the commotion in the hall. As he sat there waiting for his chance to talk to the principal, hoping that she would understand, he thought long and hard about what the boy wanted him for and why no one else saw him. Was the child to fast in movement for the administrator to see? Or was it that the administrator wasn’t paying attention when he saw the boy. Vernon figured it was that the administrator wasn’t paying attention and pawned the viewings off as maybe his mind playing tricks on him. The principal’s door opens and a young girl walks out with tears down her face as her parents fallow behind her. Vernon gulps the air as the principal calls his name. “ Mr. Davis would you please come in and have seat” she said in a comforting yet sincere voice. As Vernon walked in he thought to himself. “ She’s being so pleasant she must be able to see that I’m not lying.” As he sat down in the chair he could sense that the atmosphere had just drastically changed, Vernon sat there with a tremble in his heart as he heard the words she spoke. “ Mr. Davis, this is a first for you to be sent to my office on so many offences. I understand what you are going through at home.” Suddenly she was interrupted by Vernon. “ THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHATS GOING ON AT HOME” he screamed as a tear ran down his face. “ THAT IS ENOUGH. Don’t interrupt me, do you understand. Now I understand what your going through at home, but the school is not a place to take out your aggressions. Do I make myself clear?” A low key “yes ma’am” was heard as the principal continued her speech. “ Good. Now to take care of this referral. Lets see insubordination, walking out of class.” The principal went through everything that the teacher wrote down and stopped at the accusations that Vernon made. As she sat there and read about the account of the boy in the hall, she looked up at Vernon and shook her head, as if in shame. Vernon looked up at her and saw the looks she gave. “ This is what we will do, since you are a fairly good student and the fact that what your “preaching” is complete nonsense. You will finish out the school day. Starting tomorrow you will be in school suspension for 2 weeks.” Vernon went to say something but something stopped him. He looked down at the floor as the principal wrote him a pass to class. He stood up and walked out the door. As he headed down the hall he ended up in the spot where he saw they boy, he looked around and saw nothing. He thought to himself and decided that maybe he was crazy and continued to walk. Halfway to his class the bell rang.

As Vernon took his clothes off in the locker room, he looked around as he got a feeling like he was being watched. While peering around he noticed that everyone in the locker room was looking at him and talking. He made sure he put his clothes on quickly as he ran out of the locker room and into the gym. They sat there in their squad lines; Vernon couldn’t seem to pay attention to what the coach said. Suddenly everybody got up and headed out the gym doors down to the track. “Mr. Davis” screamed the coach half way out the door. “Care to join us?” “ Sorry sir” he said as he got up and headed down to the track. When they got there they all lined up on the track and waited for the coaches whistle. As he blew the whistle everyone went running. On his third lap, Vernon saw him; standing in the middle of the track was the boy. Vernon stopped dead in his tracks and stared at the boy. The boy smiled at Vernon and at the second when the other runners knocked him down, laughed. Vernon looked up at the boy in pain as the more aggressive boys in the class wouldn’t even help him up but ran right over him as he lay there being trampled by his class. The small boy continued to laugh, until the coach realized what was happening and blew the whistle for everyone to stop. The coach ran over and looked over Vernon. “ Are you ok? Can you move? Where does it hurt?” the coach kept asking frantically. “ He was there,” Vernon said in a pain-ridden voice. “ Who was” said the coach. “ The boy” Vernon said as he staggered to peel himself off the track. The coach looked at Vernon and said no more as he escorted his class back into the gym and Vernon upstairs to the nurse. As they walked through the halls, Vernon looked back and noticed the tail of blood he was leaving from the incredible amount of wounds he had. They got into the nurses office and they sat him down on one of the beds, while one of the nurses went to go get the iodine and bandages for his wounds and the other, to get information from the coach. When the nurse walked back into the room with the iodine, she tried to calm down Vernon, who was not in tears. “ You shouldn’t cry over a few cuts and bruises,” she said as she placed some iodine on a cotton ball and dabbed his cuts. Vernon let out a scream as the iodine touched his skin, burning deep into the wounds. “ That’s not why I am crying,” he said in a very morose voice. “ For the third time today, I saw him smiling at me with his piercing green eyes” Vernon let out a light hiss as she dabbed again. “ Do you know whom you saw?” she said as she looked up into his eyes and noticed is eyebrow. “ Yes, the image is my little brother but.” Right as he said this the nurse interrupted him “ Did you have a eyebrow ring?” as she poured a very generous amount unto the cotton ball. “ I have one yes,” he said as he looked at her funny. “ Well you don’t anymore,” she said as she let out a light laugh and stuck the cotton ball to his eyebrow. “AHHHHH GOD DAMMIT” he screamed as he fell off the bed. “ What the ******** is your problem, warn me next time” he sneered. “Sorry, please finish your story” she said as she started wrapping the wounds in gauze. “ Ok, like I was saying but he was covered in blood and part of his head was missing, as if it had been sawed off on jagged rocks. He can barely walk and he staggers in step. But it cant be my brother because my brother’s at home with my mom.” Vernon then lay down as the nurse walked out into the other room and wrote what he said down. Vernon falls asleep, while waiting for her to return. About twenty minutes later the nurse returns and wakes Vernon up. “ Vernon wake up dear, someone wants to talk to you” the nurse said while she gently tapped him. Blurry eyed he wakes up and sits up looking around to see who’s there. Sitting next to him was a tall thin nicely dressed lady; her auburn hair wrapped up in tight curls her eyes hidden behind her thick glasses. The lady sat there with a compassionate gaze in her eyes. She spoke slowly and calmly to Vernon, trying to make sure she didn’t cause him anymore direst than that of which he was already in. “ Vernon, I’m the school psychiatrist Mrs. Voltaire. I heard your having some problems today. Would you like to tell me about what’s been going on?” Vernon looked at her in a sort of resentment. “ I’m tired of telling everyone what I’ve seen. No one believes me. Why should I bother telling you? All you will do is call me crazy and say I’m a liar,” he said sneeringly. “ I promise you I wont. I have met far crazier people than you” his eyes raised at the sound of this as she corrected herself “ I’m not calling you crazy, I’m just saying there are far worse people I have talked to.” Vernon sat there and struggled with himself, finally he decided to tell Mrs. Voltaire everything. “ Here is the basics” he sneered as he watched her write down his words. “ I was in class and I saw my brother walking through the halls, he was bloody and beaten, he could barely walk. His head was missing a huge chunk. He smiled at me and called me to him. But no one believes…” Just then Vernon noticed Lafayette standing next to Mrs. Voltaire. Vernon sat there in a petrified state. He remembered all to clear the last time he say Lafayette’s image. Vernon watched as Mrs. Voltaire kept talking and Lafayette stared at him. His face was no longer that of his little brothers, where his piercing green eyes once were, there was nothing-ness. His hair was matted down with all the blood, the part where his skull was exposed oozed. Lafayette’s once loving smile now was a devilish smirk that when opened showed a row of razor sharp teeth. Vernon screamed as the image slowly wrapped his arms around Mrs. Voltaire delicate neck. Vernon went into hysterics and lounged at Mrs. Voltaire. She let out a panicked scream as the nurse and coach came into the room and held him down. Mrs. Voltaire ran out of the room and to the phone. As she sat on one end of the phone listening for the other to pick up she could hear Vernon screaming. “ HE WAS TRYING TO KILL HER! I SWEAR HE WAS THERE TRYING TO KILL HER.” Just then the other side answered. “ Hello?” said the woman’s voice. “ Yes Mrs. Davis, this is Mrs. Voltaire the school psychiatrist. We need you to come get Vernon as quickly as possible. I am calling ahead to the hospital so that they will be awaiting him. We need them to run some tests.” Mrs. Voltaire said shakily. “ Omg is he ok? What happened?” the lady said in a panicked tone. “ No everything’s fine, he claimed to be seeing things and just now attacked me. We need him off the premises since he may cause harm to someone else.” “ Ok I will be there soon,” said Vernon’s mother. Mrs. Voltaire went back into the room and stood there and watches them as they continued to struggle to hold Vernon down. Twenty minutes later Vernon was now halfway calmed, his mother came walking into the health room along with Lafayette. Vernon stared at his brother I amazement and quickly went to hug him. “ I’m so glad your alive bug,” said Vernon has he continued to hug his brother. “ Eww mom he’s hugging me” screamed Lafayette. Everyone in the room stared at Lafayette, and were finally happy when the family left, taking Vernon with them.
