Zonko's is a favourite place for Hogwarts students to shop. They carry jokes and tricks to fulfill everyone's wildest dreams, including Dungbombs, Hiccup Sweets, Frog Spawn Soap, and Nose-Biting Teacups!

Payton walked with Trista out of Honeyduke's with their stash of treats in hand. The weather outside seemed bearable to Payton, with the candy effects slowly wearing off. Zonko's Joke Shop was a few stores away, almost tucked away some where so that no one could find it. But it wasn't too hard, since lots of students seemed to walk around with the Jokes on their clothes. "I think we're missing all the fun, some of third years already went inside." He let out a light breath, relieving his mouth from the lava flow.
"What type of treats are your favorites?" Payton asked, looking down at the bag that she carried. She must have gotten some of the candy for her folks, as he remembered back.

Trista giggled at the sight of the younger students running around with the things they bought from Zonko's. She had never really spent any time around that store, for she was always a big on the candies at Honeydukes. Payton asked her which treats she liked best, and with that she reached into the bag slung around her free elbow, and rummaged around until she found her fudge package. She pulled it out and unwrapped the block, took a small bite, then rewrapped it and shoved it back into her shopping bag. "I've always been a big fan of fudge. Next to that, I'd say that Bertie Bott's are my other favorites; so much variety; so many adventurious flavors." Trista chuckled to herself, but continued to follow Payton, arm in arm, towards Zonko's to have some fun.

Payton watched as she reached into her bag to pull out a hand wrapped item. She opened it up and took a bite, which made him smile. "I know what you mean about fudge, I can't get enough of it around the holidays. My grandmother makes this amazing butter chocolate, makes you feel like you're in a coma after a few bites of it." He looked on, getting close to the shop, seeing a few students heading that way also. He sped up their stride, feeling excited about entering in to see if there were any new jokes or gags- especially to spot at least one third year covered in a mess that his curiosity got him in.
Payton held the door open for Trista as they walked into to find the store change in the excitement of students rushing around with gadgets stuffed in their arms. He spotted something worth waiting for, "look they got a new joke pen," he mentioned as a girl began writing put the ink shot at her from the top. He chuckled a bit, not wanting to show attention that he saw the mishap while the girl cried.

Trista listened to Payton's tale of his grandmother's comatose chocolate, which made her giggle at the thought of someone dropping from a few bites. Payton held the door open for Trista and she accepted the gesture kindly, moving swiftly into the shop and staring in amazement at all of the children cluttered into the shop. She followed Payton to the little girl he was examining who was testing the joke pen. She couldn't help but chuckle when the pen squirted back at the child, but then stopped abruptly and 'awwed' in sympathy. Trista walked around some and glanced around to see all of the items in stock. She noticed a few wizard's chess sets organized onto a shelf off to the side of the crowded room. Trista walked over and studied the sets and their prices. She picked out a glass set and carefully took it down from the shelf, then walked over to the back of the line that was trailing from the head of the counter where the register was. Trista turned to Payton and shook the box a little. "I've always wanted my own chess set." She gave a little laughed, but then looked forward to examine the length of the line.

Payton moved around the store, half keeping an eye on Trista and the other half of the time looking at all the new toys and gadgets. He spotted Trista over by the wizarding chess as he moved towards the board games. He spotted a game replica to the Whomping Willow. He picked up the box and read over the game rules, seems as if you can't get close too close to the tree without the right card or it'll stomp on your piece and lose a life. Interesting, Payton thought as he placed the game back and decided to look around for more games.
After coming up short, he later spotted Trista over at the line with a box in her arms. "Seems like you got a good one there," Payton remarked as he looked over the color of the boxes. "I couldn't decide what I wanted. Got stuck between a board game that surprises you when you draw a card or roll the dice, or a coloring notepad that colors itself in after you sketch out your drawing. Are you planning on playing a game of chess once we head back to the castle?"

Trista smiled at Payton when he asked about her playing chess later. "Well I would hope so. Are you a big chess fan?" Trista giggled and kept moving up in line to buy her item.

"Why, yes I am," Payton replied, sounding very sure of himself. "I'll lose to you so badly, it'll be like failing a test." He laughed at himself, knowing full well that he wasn't the best at logical games, but enjoyed watching other students play. "Though the sad thing is that I never failed a test, so maybe I'll have a go at it. If that's fine with you." He gave her a grin and then reached for a cubical toy with six different colors and five dimensional blocks. Maybe this could be fun to try, he thought over the object as the moved together towards the cashier.

Trista laughed along with Payton. "I've never failed a test either, but when I'm in the mood, I'm a master at chess. So it's a challenge then." Trista made her tone sound intimidating, but also playful as she challenged Payton to a game of good ol' fashioned chess.

The way Trista looked at Payton with intimidation, made him grin in response. He liked challenges. Now that it was with Trista, this match of theirs would give him more chances of spending time with his new friend. "I say, you got yourself a opponent," he fought back, standing up straight like some street fighter competitor. He choked out a laugh and slouched back down, "who taught you how to play chess?" he asked and took a step forward, following the line to the register.

(ooc: it's alright. not too many people have been posting recently either..hah.)
Trista giggled at Payton's act of intimidation. When he asked her about where she learned the skill, she replied, "I actually learned it off of reading." She gave a short laugh then continued, "I never really had anyone to teach me but I was definitely interested in learning, so I researched the subject and have been practicing somewhat ever since." She turned to him again and asked the same about his skill.

Books. The joy of self-learning. Payton liked how Trista learned something on her own. He was used to it, always getting his education that way because he found the voice of some Professors a drag and dulling. He took a step forward as she asked him a similar question. "I've learned the logistics of chess, like where each piece is moved from watching. I catch onto patterns pretty easily and strategy. But actually going into competition with someone other than myself. Now that would be fun to watch lose," he admitted, not sounding so sure of himself.
When they reached the counter, Payton reached into his pocket and told the cashier that he'd be paying for Trista's Wizarding Chess set. He paid the required fee and then turned towards Trista, "think of it as a friendly gesture." He grinned and then made his way over towards the door to hold it open for her, "where to next? Butterbeers?"

Trista widened her eyes in shock when she noticed Payton paying the cashier for her item. She smiled then and said, "Oh! Payton, you really didn't have to. Thank you, though." tucked the package under her arm. When he suggested butterbeer's, she held out her elbow to him again and nodded with a beaming smile in agreement.

Payton waved off Trista's thank you as not being a big problem for him. He smiled once more when Trista grabbed a hold of his elbow once more as they headed out of the store. He liked this little bond between them, a simple gesture of friendship and courtesy, even manner like - but good for him now. The walked down the dirt road towards another part of town, to Madam Puddifoot's.
