Payton felt bitter for the way he ended the conversation about their families. He sighed as he watched Trista move a Pawn, following her move he pushed out his queen side Knight. "I'm sorry...that I ended the conversation rudely. I guess it would be a lot healthier for me to talk about how I feel. But enough about feeling down," he said sitting up straight, changing the attitude of his voice and asked, "if you were given a Time Turner, what time would you turn back to and why?"
Payton grinned after he gave his question and then picked up his mug to take a swig of his butterbeer. He liked hearing different answers, all were fun and interesting to observe.

"Oh, no Payton. Don't worry about it, please." She looked up shyly and gave a small grin. "Wow. That's a really hard question." Payton had asked her the question and she sat there, dumbfounded. She really had no idea. There were so many times that she wished she could return to, but nothing of great importance. "I'm really not sure; there are truely a lot of times i could go back to, but none in particular that i would want to really. What about you?" Trista returned the question, now curious as to what path he would take himself.

Payton nodded to Trista's concern for him as he popped a few nuts into his mouth. As he chewed, he listened to Trista try to explain to him that she wanted to go back but not willing to in the end. He wondered why she would feel that way, not taking that chance to see or do something that would make or change their present. But he liked how she thought, sort of not wanting to change anything and being content with what you have.
"Me...well," Payton replied deep in thought of what he might do with a Time Turner. "I'd like to go back and see my Dad, even just for a few minutes when I was born. To see how happy he might have been to have me as his son," he answered with a slight grin and then continued with his reply, "and I'd would like to have known you when you came to Hogwarts. Maybe if I wasn't afraid of my phobia, I would have made more friends and asked you out sooner." He smiled directly at Trista before he picked up his mug and took a gulp of his butterbeer, leaving only one more gulp left. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and gasped, letting the drink do its magic as he felt the tingling run down his body.

Trista thought about Payton's response deeply, realizing how much he really did miss his father. She nodded as he explained, then gave a slight smile to herself and blushed a little at his comment about knowing her when she had first come to Hogwarts. "I would have liked that. It's understandable, though..your phobia. I've never been much of a people person really either, you just have to wait for the right ones to come along." Trista took a few small sips of her own drink after Payton.

The look on Payton's face made him grin when he saw Trista blush at his comment. Looking into his mug at the melted butter color, he thought of the times he came to Hogsmeade alone and drinking by himself. But now that he had a chance to come with someone, it made the excursion fun and exciting.
Payton moved his eyes up at Trista after a moment, thinking of how much he liked the company of Trista. He brushed his right hand through his blond hair, as he replied,"you're right. I just needed to wait and here we are." He chuckled and grabbed again at the basket of nuts. Tossing a few into his mouth and chewing down - making a crunching sound that echoed in his ears- a question came to mind as he asked, "if you had a chance to receive any type of animal/creature as a gift, what would it be and why?" He liked how his question came out again, always keeping on edge as he waited for her to make her next move either on the board or their conversation.

((ooc: ugh, sorry. i've been grounded for two weeks. i'm back now though.))
Trista nodded as Payton replied to her earlier comment. She reached her hand for the basket of nuts after Payton had taken his next handful, and she plucked out a few and popped them into her mouth. Trista thought about his question for a few moments. She fancied a few different animals, though they were all generalized as types of canines. "Well, I suppose I'd adore a puppy as a gift, though as for a wild animal, I'm a huge fan of white foxes and wolves. My animagus form is actually a white wolf. I'm a really big dog person. But what about you?" Trista threw the question back at him, really wondering what kind of animal he would have in mind.
