I just found out I'm about 1 month pregnant. My birthday is Sunday, and I had been saving up to get my nose/lip pierced, but I'm not too sure I can now. Would it be bad for the baby?

Hmm. I probably wouldn't go through with it just to be on the extra safe side. But if it's something you've been wanting, ask your ob-gyn about it. 3nodding

Hmm that's an interesting question. I wouldn't believe that it would, but I've never even had sex before, so I wouldn't know for sure.

Due to the risk of infection, I'd wait until after the baby was born. If you were thinking of getting your navel pierced, I hear you have to take those out anyways as your belly gets bigger, so it'd be pointless to do it before the baby is born. But yeah, definitely ask your ob-gyn about it. 3nodding

I used to work at an ear piercing shop and we used to say no to pregnant women all the time. But especially with cartilage and since your nose is all cartilage it would have a higher risk for infection. The reason is cartilage doesn't really have much blood flow so the bacteria will just kind of sit there and build up. So I would say no and most piercers will say no anyway, it's one of the first questions they ask.

Actually, I have a question in relation to that then. I am trying to conceive but haven't had any luck yet. However, I think I may have finally succeeded this time but i won't know for a few weeks. I just got a few piercings done the past few weeks, and one of them is infected right now even though I've been keeping it extremely clean and everything. If I do find out that I'm pregnant, will it affect the baby in any way?

Bella Marie Irise Actually, I have a question in relation to that then. It can. I've read up on it since the original poster asked and apparently infections from piercings can be a pretty big deal for unborn babies. So getting pierced while pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant is not recommended. If I were you I'd probably take the piercing out and let it heal up. You can always have it done again when you're done breastfeeding. But if you really want to try to keep the piercing, ask your doctor about it. The doctor can tell you how bad the infection looks and whether it poses a large threat. He or she might even be able to give you something to help it heal.

you shouldnt get pierced while pregnant if the person piercing knows your pregnant they will refuse also because of infection. I small amount of bacteria from being pierced can infect your blood stream and you would feel fine but it could kill your baby or harm him/her. Congrats of having a baby though!!

Yeah, you might want to wait on that one. Not only that, but if the piercing is one of the types that can be pulled on, once that baby is born and able to grab and pull on things, you'd be at risk for having it ripped out. Ouch!
Breath out.

I have heard that it is actually very, very dangerous to get piercings while pregnant... doesn't matter where on your body. I haven't been told as to why, it's so dangerous... but if I were you, I'd look it up.
