I'm seriously thinking about one next year.
There's two forms of IUD. (Intra-Uterine Device, those T shaped things) One lasts five, the other lasts twelve years.
Then there is Implanon, which is a flexible plastic strip that is surgically implanted under the skin in the arm. It lasts 3 years.
NuvaRing seems sketchy to me. Basically you shove this plastic ring up your cooter and leave it there for three weeks.
Seriously. I cannot remember to take BC pills for s**t, or I remember and forget to bring them and I don't want a patch or a shot or something that will increase the frequency of office visits.
I want the convienence of not having to refill prescriptions (a pain in the a** for me since I can only get mine at my HMO pharmacy) and proven protection against babies.
Seems to me like an implant is the perfect solution.

My sister has a five-year IUD and she just loves it.

They don't always let you get an IUD unless you've already had children. So you might want to check on that.

That sounds scary. I can imagine it having horrible effects on you or something.

The only problem I see with Implanon (and this is just me) is that I'd be freaking out, poking it, shifting it around, I CAN FEEL IT SQUICK SQUICK UGHHH. But if it doesn't bother you than it seems pretty BA.

luxGRAYP They don't always let you get an IUD unless you've already had children. So you might want to check on that. I'd talk them into it. I don't see having or wanting children in the forseeable future anymore. It used to appeal to me greatly, but I see people I remember as children married and with babies and children and I find myself relieved that I'm not them. Mama's a rolling stone, apparently.
If not, then I'll push for inplanon.
I may have a kid or two in my late thirties, if at all.

I have no problem with pills. I keep them in my purse and I have an alarm set on my phone.
My friend has nuvaring... it just seems awkward. I have no idea where it sits, and she has to take it out every 3 weeks to put a new one in.

My friend has nuvaring... it just seems awkward. I have no idea where it sits, and she has to take it out every 3 weeks to put a new one in. I am famous for leaving s**t places, losing s**t, misplacing s**t, forgetting it at someone's house, etc.
I went off birth control the first time because I lost the entire package and had no refills left and I couldn't be assed to take an entire day off work to go get the prescription refilled. This was back when I worked in DC though. My doctor's office was in MD and it took me 45 minutes just to get to and from work.
I just want something that lasts.
