Reuben spread the blanket out over the sand, humming a little to himself as he did so. He had the latest book in a fantasy series he enjoyed to curl up with, and was ready to soak up a little bit of sun--he'd gotten so pale this year, staying inside all the time-- and take Vergil out for a day at the beach.
Vergil, in the meantime, was busy in his swimtunks making sand pies. Reuben had tried to convince him to try getting into the water, but the songbird had taken one look at the seaweed and had decided instead to play on the beach. After rubbing him all over with sunscreen, Reuben was now watching as Vergil served him up another sand pie from his sand bakery.
"Give this one a try, Dad!" He said, pushing the wet sand clump toward Reuben.
Reuben, in turn, took an large imaginary bite out of the pie and chewed it thoughtfully, a connoisseur. "Hmmm..." He said, considering it. "Needs a little more sand, I think."
Vergil chirped consideringly and set to work making another pie.
((In case people are wondering, Vergil will be played as a Hatchling for this RP. :3 ))

"You have wings!" In a split second, Varsana was next to the other winged person on the beach. She had spotted him from a distanct and Kabibe was helpless to stop her. "Hello, I'm Varsana. It's a pleasure to meet you!" She curtsied in an apropriate manner, flairing her dress out in an adorable fashion.
When Kabibe finally caught up to the girl, they were already in a conversation. Instead of interrupting, she turned to the boy's parent and smiled. "Heh. Sorry about that. She met another of her kind the other day and now she thinks everyone with wings is the same as her. Oh! Sorry, forgot my introductions. I'm Kabibe, call me Bobby, and that's Varsana."

Vergil jumped, nearly dropping his sand pie. He blinked a few times and then broke into a wide smile. "You're green!" He exclaimed, saying the first thing that popped into his mind. He then mimicked the girl's curtsy, pulling out the ends of an invisible dress, and then stuck out his hand in a friendly, albeit sandy manner, having just dropped the sand pie he was holding. "I'm Vergil."
Reuben laughed goodnaturedly. "Hey, no worries. I kinda jumped on the first kid I saw that looked like Verge." He was glad that Lily hadn't reacted badly to being accosted in a grocery store. "The name's Reuben," he continued, smiling, "and that's Vergil. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Ms. Varsana is a songbird, too."

Varsana smiled a huge, open smile and pushed her wing over his hand. The water flushed all the sand off of his hand and then she politely shook his hand. "Sorry, I didn't want to get sandy. Makes me itchy." She stuck her tongue out and made a face to express her displeasure.
"You're limb is correct. Hatched for a wet egg into a wet bird," Kabibe laughed and smiled at the kids. "It's lucky that he turned out to be a songbird also. One of these days, she's gonna jump someone and it's not gonna be who she thinks it is." A ball came flying in her direction, straight out of the ocean, but completely missed Kabibe and hit Varsana.
"DARCY THAT WAS MY HEAD YOU BIG MEANIE POOHEAD!" A screaming toddler shouted toward the ocean. When he didn't surface after a second, she turned back to her new friend (Yay instant friend! Just add water!). "Darcy's my mean brother. He's a fishy person."
"MERPERSON" Darcy's voice.

Vergil's eyes widened as he felt the water gently wash off the sand. "Haha!" He giggled. "Your wings are so cool!" He puffed out his own wings a few times, trying to make them doing something neat, but the electric yellow feathers just folded and unfolded in the breeze.
Vergil looked a little disappointed.
Reuben laughed. "I know how that goes. Did you see at all who gave your the egg? Vergil was just left for me at the front desk of my apartment without any explanation." Okay, yeah, there was that creepy note, but that wasn't really relevant to the conversation at present moment.
Blinking at the ball, Vergil looked from the ocean to Varsana. "Fish people?" He asked, as though tasting the word on his tongue. Then, his face lit up. "Can we go play with him in the water?"

"They're very wet though. I hate smooth fwoors, I slip." She pointed to her moss-covered feet. "Those and my wings are swippy, but your wings are pretty! They're so bright! I bet they don't make you swip!" The look on his face told her he was unhappy, so she tried to cheer him. She was kinda at a lack for how, though.
"Actually, she wasn't given to me. That brat who threw the ball found the egg in the ocean. It floated, I guess. Made them very close though." Kabibe pointed to Darcy who had just surfaced. She was almost dreading the moment Vergil and his father saw the boy's sharp rows of teeth.
"YEAH! DARCY! Give us a ride, kay?!" Varsana took ahold of Vergil's hand and pulled him into the water with her.
"I don't want to give him a ride!"
"Don't mind my brower, he has people probwems!"

Vergil folded and unfolded his wings cautously, frown still etched on his face. He said, in a small voice not usual for him, "Do you really think they're pretty?"
Reuben didn't quite know what to make of that. He'd been so sure that the eggs had a special purpose, given to certain people for reasons...but hey, what did he know? These songbird things maybe just lay the eggs and then flew off. Though, he'd have liked to have seen what had produced Vergil. That kid was something.
"Hmmm." Reuben commented. "I guess there's no set method for delivering the eggs then. I was wondering because Vergil's egg came with an odd message, and I was wondering if the same had happened for you." Well, this wasn't looking good. Who on earth could have written that note...?
Vergil splashed along, laughing, and the choking as he accidentally inhaled seawater in his glee. Regaining control of his airways, he laughed again and followed Varsana. He gasped at the merboy's mouth.
"Wooah! Teeth!" Were just about the only words that came to his mind.
