If you want to incorparate a character into a story it takes 5 steps: 1. intoduce the story by writing what a normal day would be example:going for a walk, sleeping in, going an a date, eat with some friends. 2. Suddenly or subtly make a problem: gets in a fight, gets fired, ect. 3. they think they've solved it but made the guess and the problem deepens. 4. they find the missing links to solve the problem. 5. they solve the problem.
An example story outline: she gets ready to go on a date, she arrives and gets dumped, almost wins him back, she finds out what he wants in a girl, she changes to bcome that girl, she finds out he's not worth it and finds the right guy be being herself

I try to make a way for them to fit them in. Then I have them have a caual meeting with a main character. Later the show up.
Example: (Book: Wrath by B.R. Lin 2009) --->Down the street Elric walked with his head hung low and thoughts swirling in his head as the store signs came alive with neon lights. Not often did he venture into Dusk City and simply stroll the streets but the young man needed the space to settle all the ideas that pestered him so. Looking up he saw her, a young woman that appeared no more then sixteen with the most beautiful eyes he had seen and she was wearing skin tight clothes. Lookig around the young woman, Olive became caught in eye of the stranger who stood acroos the street with a black jacket on. For a few moments he had a chance to read her. She was frightened, nervous, gulity, and confused. Abruptly a man grabbed her by the arm and procceded to force her down the sidewalk.
Does that help???
