I want to discuss the judging system for the next tournament, since opaj reminded me that I've been meaning to do a point-based system for some time. Here's a draft of what I want to do in the next GTB. Opinions welcomed. Quote: Point System: Fighter can gain up to 5 points in each category.Spelling/ Grammar Punctuation, spelling, right word usages. Conciseness/ Writing AbilityDoes the writer have a good grasp on making the details clear to the reader? How good is the writer at in creating an effective and/or interesting writing scheme, in addition to augmenting their clarity? RoleplayingDoes the writer stick to their character's personality and overall "feel?" If a fighter is a stubborn fool, then the posts should show this. Dialogue and mood setting can also can attribute to this. Creativity/ StrategyUnique plans or good strategies that make use of the fighter's situation, setting, and ability are examined. If they have both, even better. EntertainmentWhether the fighter is a classic theater entertainer or is capable of expressing drama to the extent that it isn't cliche, the fighter must make the reader interested in wanting to read about them more. Control of the FightHow well was the fighter dominating the fight?

The Darth Vizzle Imo, entertainment can be put into "writing ability," "roleplaying," and "creativity." It plays into all three, and I feel that you would simply be addressing them over again if you had an "Entertainment" section. It would be better to just remove that, and let it be expressed in the other portions, where one could be deemed entertaining via their ability or lack thereof (writing ability, roleplaying ability, ability to be creative or to plan). Redundancy would just slow down the judging process. If you keep it, I would suggest reworking the description. Not all characters are dramatic, or have what it takes to be played in a "dramatic" or "theatrical" manner. So it would be somewhat biased towards characters of a certain type that might play into common themes found in something like anime. Shouting attacks and what have you. Entertainment, if kept, should be based on the overall entertainment you felt while reading the fight based on the person's writing, their character's actions, and the portrayal of that character. Which, again, sort of fits into writing, roleplaying, and creative abilities >_>

While I agree with this logic I do just want to say something to keep in mind. There are some writers who promote the "strong silent type" character (just an example) and yet don't do anything interesting. If not through words, actions should be interesting and the writing fun to read. So if an argument comes up where someone says "Well I don't say anything because that is how my character is," I just want judges to keep in mind that there still should be expression. Not saying that Darth didn't mean such when he wrote this, but I merely wanted to elaborate that point.

Link's a prime example in this tournament of the "Silent Hero" type. I get what you're saying Darth and it probably will eventually be omitted due to the broad sense of "Entertainment," but I do want to add that we do consider other factors in what entertaining means and that people don't have to be a luchadora or a clown to show out. As long as they are interesting to read, that is a good chance that they are entertaining.

Tsk tsk...
The only way to judge a fight is simple...
The winner wins... The loser loses...
Simple as that...
Why do all of these tournaments seem to stray from the main idea, the main point... Winners win hands down...

Why do I...
...talk like a text version of William Shatner...?
I seem to... utilize a lot of unnecessary pairs of three elipses... and I just can't figure out why...

In the fights that actually finish, it generally happens that way. However, most fights will have the tendency to run on nearly forever, or be simply double KOs. Why? People have egos to soothe. No one wants to lose to someone else. However, a judging system is needed for fights that don't finish.
