After a nap in Kess's weyr - and her first chore done! - Uuni felt like she'd been treated better than the Weyrwoman herself. All she needed now was a pastry that wasn't burnt and some soup for dinner that tasted rich and creamy. Yeah, that would be the day.

It was time now, however, to face the facts: She had a lot more things to do today when it came to chores, and none of them would do themselves.

The kitchens were calling, and she stopped by there to pick up some buckets and rags to clean the dining hall with. It was dead period; before lunch and far after breakfast. Only a few stragglers that had gotten out of chores or riders that found themselves unexpectedly hungry were gracing the wooden tables and halls.

Taking a wet, soapy rag, she started on the first empty table making sure to scrub it well lest one of the overseers come by and have a fit over one small spot.

This still beat helping with cooking.

T'loa was a familiar face both in the Dining Hall and the kitchens. As a youth, he had spent much of his time learning the craft of cooking and assisting within the kitchens; if he wasn't to Impress, than at the very least he could make a living by feeding the dragon riders he'd envy. It wasn't a glamorous job, but if a rider didn't eat, than a rider couldn't drill or do his duties. Small comforts, really, but at the time it had been his only reassurance in case the unthinkable happened and he never Impressed.

Thank goodness Niyath had cracked shell before he got pulled due to age! All the waiting had certainly been worth it, as no dragon would have been quite so perfect as his handsome oaf of a bronze. Despite having fallen away from baking and assisting within the kitchens, T'loa still possessed a great appetite and freqeuntly found himself lounging within the Dining Hall. It was difficult to enjoy the food, especially as he recalled days when the cooks could pride themselves with their work, but such over crowding and a lack of proper tithes made things difficult. . . .

Leaned back in his chair, the tall man watched as various folks came and went. Niyath was enjoying the late morning sunshine and heat, while Xiazu was busy grooming herself on top of the table. A small partially eaten fishroll was set before her, the little fire-lizard not as impressed with the cuisine as one might assume.

Overall, it was a quiet day. . . There were no drill assignments, a rest-day for Hurricane Wing, and T'loa was determined to enjoy it. His eyes landed on a girl that looked vaguely familiar. . . Her shoulder knots spoke of being a candidate (one of the many crammed within Ista!) and he believed to have seen her at the previous Hatching. That entire affair had been ridiculous and over the top, painful to remember in all honesty, but at least it was out of sight and out of mind. Sometimes the rider envied the dragons memory. . . They didn't have to be traumatized when things went sour.

As the girl moved to the next table, he added mildly, "Practicing for the day you Impress or just an enemy of grime on tables?" She certainly looked to be focused on all the scrubbing, and was actually trying to do a good job. It was . . . . well. . . rather amazing. "If you put as much dedication in to scrubbing a dragon as you do those tables, I'd say you'd make best-friends out of half of 'em here at Ista." And wasn't that the truth. What dragon didn't appreciate a good scrub or bath. . . ?

None that he'd ever met, that was for sure.

At first, Uuni wasn't sure that the voice was directed at her. The circled motions of her scrubbing ceased a few moments after as the male's voice continued.

Turning her head towards the source, she grinned. It was natural to like a compliment, wasn't it? Her eyes wandered over the flit who had abandoned its food before they ventured back over to the rider.

In good manners, she shifted to the other side of the table so she could face him. "Was that the real reason you noticed me? My ability to clean?" There was a poor, disgusting retort to go with that, but it was so low that even Uuni didn't bother to sound that desperate.

The grin faded to a smirk, but her actions didn't cease. Instead her eyes flicked between his gaze and the tables. "To be completely honest?" she told him with the quirk of her brow and a look over her shoulder, "And just between us. . ." Her voice had dropped to a whisper before she turned her gaze back. "I'm only doing a good job because it eats up more time; i'm not looking forwards to stables today." She gave him a wink as though this were some dark secret between them and dropped her gaze once more.

The lounging and ridiculously tall rider quirked a brow at the girl. He wasn't so daft as to miss what her remark implied, but it amused him she might tease in such a manner. Some candidates weren't exactly the shy sort, and while he wasn't averse to admiring the figure or charm of a woman. . . it wasn't something he much pursued. Too much work, really, and from his experience, often too much drama.

"Well the hall isn't exactly bustling with activity... you're not exactly easy to over look." He shrugged passively, allowing the girl to take such a comment however she wished. A lop-sided grin crossed his features, good humor glinting in his gaze. He didn't mind flirting, though it was awfully early in the day and he wasn't about ready to distract a candidate from her chores.

Much, at any rate.

At Uuni's honesty (or what he could assume was honesty) the rider gave a small chuckle. "Best get used to it. Sure, the stables are wretched in this heat and sun but something a lot of candidates forget is mucking out the barracks is an every day chore once Impression occurs. One of the dirtier jobs a dragonet brings to the table..." Oh, sure, most candidates were still too star-struck and on cloud-nine to really complain about cleaning up after their dragon. But, then again, as the months wore on and the dragons weren't allowed to hop *between*, mucking out a stable seemed rather blissful....

Especially with the larger coloured dragons!

Stretching out, tipping his chair back, T'loa did toss Uuni a wink. "But I won't tell. Shards, I could even prove an asset. . . " And with that, he 'tipped' what klah remained in his cup. It wasn't much, just a small spill. "How clumsy of me."

Xiazu paused in her grooming, turning her whirling gaze upon T'loa and chittering a warning at him, scolding him. The bronze rider just rolled his eyes, patiently allowing the little green to get it out of her system before she resumed her cleaning.

You shouldn't distract the Candidates so. . . You'll get her in trouble if you're not careful. The dragon warned, doing his best not to tag a small snort in to his words. He wasn't a jealous dragon, not really, but then he didn't often have to worry about His paying too much attention to anyone usually.

Both rider and dragon were laid back and quiet sorts, so all T'loa could do was chalk up the bronzes concern as 'looking out' for Uuni's best interest.

Uuni's smile broadened quite a great deal as he shrugged after his comment. She had no problem at all taking it as something flattering and her gaze lingered perhaps a bit too long on his grin.

Of course, then he had to ruin it with talk of dragon s**t. She wrinkled her nose and scraped her tongue over her teeth and swallowed. "Guess I better," she answered with a chuckle as she finally re-adapted. It would be worth it. This fellow had made it through; the knots on his shoulder said as much.

Raising an eyebrow as he winked at her, she watched as a tiny bit of klah was spilled out. The smile turned into a grin, and she finished with the table she'd been working on before tossing the cleaning towel over her shoulder and moving in his direction.

It slid off and hit the table he was sitting in; she rested her hand on this and it crept along the edge of the wood as she walked the rest of the distance between them.

Giving him a quiet smile, she leaned over him a little, reaching around to tip the cup of klah up with one finger before she took it between the rest. The mess was mopped up easily through two towel sweeps. "You should work on your fingerwork." The edges of her lips warped upwards and spread as she gave him a hearty grin and rotated the cup of klah with her wrist.

"Do you want me to get you a refill. . . ah, I don't think I've gotten your name?" Easily distracted might as well have been Uuni's second name. At least when it came to boys.
