Ok, so Xbox Live had a big update today. An avatar item shop. I downloaded it and poked around the avatar market, and what do I find?

AN entire section labeled steampunk. There's not much in there right now, but, it could be promising. At least there's goggles, and this nice shirt and vest combo with rubber gloves and what looks like a tool sash, as well as a hat with goggles and some brass goggles.

There was a depression era clothing collection as well.

Just figured my fellow anachronists might find it interesting.

That's all kinds of rather awesome! xD There are a couple of really nice items in there.
It's a shame my housemate's 360 is on it's last legs...

I noticed all that too. I was quite surprised to find steampunk stuff there, and on the first batch of purchasables, too. They also have BioShock 2 items... You can dress up as any of 3 Big Daddies (Bouncer, Rosie, Prototype) and there's a Big Daddy Doll prop.

Now, I don't mind the occasional Gaia Cash or Collectible here on Gaia, where Avatars are a huge focus... But I'll be damned if I pay $1 for a single item of clothing for the Xbox Live avatars. If I'm giving money to Microsoft it's gonna be for Xbox Live itself, DLC for games, or games themselves. I never bought gamerpics, and I'm not going to buy avatar clothes/props.

I'm waiting to see what kinds of games will offer Awards, so I can get some "free" clothes/props for completing in-game achievements.

Eh, unless it was a full suit I could do without the Big Daddy stuff, but hey, it's got the Prototype's helm. New stuff is coming out every Thursday as stated on IXB, so, might wanna check back then. I do wish one of the Bioshock props was a Gathering Needle though.

$1?! Dang, most items on PS Home cost .49 cents...

I got the big daddy doll. So cute!!
I didn't like most of the steampunk
clothes. Either it was super cliche to
me or.. what were my exact words?
Oh yes, "If I wanted to look like a
steampunk hooker!" But some of the
clothes were cool, and most of them
paired well with the Bioshock 2 stuff.
This update kinda makes me hope
they'll make more games that feature
avatars.

I think that's the idea, preparing for more avatar games.

It wouldn't make any sense to release avatar games when it's highly possible you could see many avatars that look alike.

Besides, like Gaia, part of the idea is dressing your avatar in things you can't necessarily easily get in the real world.

The absolute worst thing they would pull would be to not actually let you have a reward item ,but to unlock it in the shop. I swear if they do I'm NEVER paying for XBL gold.
