Everything ached...

Everything...Everything burned...

Surroundings, so different from his home, were barely registered into his mental psyche as a badly wounded Pan'lun struggled to keep walking. Once exotic and regal clothing hung like rags on his slender figure as blood ran from various scratches and slash marks on his bronze scales. Even the gold that adorned his body seemed to have lost it's luster...fatique and pain was quickly overtaking the senses...

"Master! Master! Hold on!"

Who was that...?
Everything was turning dark....

"Hikari! I shall-.....Find-..."

Find? Find what? .......

"Ye-! I'll hur-! Ke- ...........Master!" The sounds of fluttering wings could barely be hear above the sound of his heart in his ears.

....So.....tired.....
........Tired.....

He needed...to sleep....
Violet eyes, glazed with pain and exhaustion, slowly closed as the owner left the realm of the concious...despite the best efforts of one of his most loyal servants.

The second, a little mimicgryph that was whiter than new snow, quickly flew above the canopy of the forest they had fled into... Surely! Surely there had to be-

Wait....was that....A campfire! Yes! Other painters were there!
Whether or not they were hostile was a risk the little familiar was going to take...for the sake of her master. With swift wings, she dove into the small clearing as her clear plead rang out:

"PLEASE! SOMEONE! ANYONE! PLEASE! HELP!!"

It was evening time. A relatively quiet time in the family camp for Valentine, his lovely mate, Mya, their adopted daughter, Jassia, and what ever older offspring of theirs from their first brood who decided to either stay or drop by for a visit. Currently, Zimran was actively making his presence known. Nathan had moved off to pursue his own dreams and goals.

Valentine had just stoked the center fire of their clearing before returning to the den to see how things were going. Jassia was tired and was getting a bit fussy. He smiled. She was still so small and yet she was learning things so fast. She whined softly and shook herself, huffing a few times before keening her displeasure with her sleepiness. She was definitely ready for bed. Val scooped her up and set her down in their nest. Shushing her gently, he nuzzled her softly with his muzzle. Jassia gave a bit of a wail and buried her face into the soft lining of the nest. He lifted his head to look to his mate, with a slightly amused grin on his face.

Zimran was nodding off near the fire. His two trained mice were tucked under his wing while Savion was perched on top of the intricate weaved nest that he and Ola had made. Like his master, he was on the verge of dozing off, but an alarmed cry drew his gaze. A wonderfully fair female mimicgryph was swooping into the clearing. He perked up immediately and rose to meet her. "Oh, hi! You're new. Pretty." His feathers had all been preened right before he settled in to sleep. She didn't seem to be paying much attention to him though. "Wait.......Help? Oh! Help please!" The large mimicgryph dove to land hard on his master, beating his wings, but Zim slept like the dead. Savion huffed before taking to the air to fly to the entrance. "Help is needed! Pretty needs help!"

Inside the cave, Mya smiled down at their adopted child before glancing up at her beloved mate. For the half candle mark, the mother had been trying to sooth the fussy hatchling into slumber. Such a sweet child she was, but sweetness was not present when a grumpy child met a sleepy child...

Reaching down, she gave the little one a gentle lick on the head to help usher in the sandman. "Ah, the innocence of a child." Mya smiled at Valentine as she reached out to kiss him on the cheek. "She brought back those beloved memories of caring for children...something I had almost forgotten."

Outside, the calling voice of Savian and the near-hysterical cries of the newcomer, prodded an older familiar from the realm of slumber. Rowen, who had seen many things in his lifetime with Mya, was not surprised to see Savian up and about at this hour....but the pale mimicgryph that had come into their glade....

He grumbled. "Really Savian....If you wish to get it on with a lady, must you need to annouce-" It was when his words clicked. Help? Then, this familiars' master needed help?

Mya heard the cries and perked up. Through Rowens' eyes, she could see the weeping creature as Savian attempted to awaken her son. "Valentine....Somethings' wrong..." She stood and, carefully stepping over little Jassia, made way towards the commotion outside. There, she stood and stared at the gathering of their home. "What's all this now?"

Little Hikari did not wait an instant; leaving Savian to Zimran, she flew over to the female dragon with pleading words and teary eyes.

"PLEASE! Please! My master! He- I!" Sobs broke apart sentences. "He needs- We need to-! OH PLEASE HELP HIM!"

Jassia gave a soft huff at receiving a lick from her mother. She pawed at her nose and made growly whining sounds, moving about the nest as if looking for a decent place to lay down.

Valentine chuckled and nuzzled Mya in return. "Indeed she has. Little Jassia definitely has some spit and vinegar under her cuddly exterior. It's wonderful to have a youngster around again. The experience is most welcome." He picked up the distressed weeping from outside and Savion calling out too. The scarred male rose to move to stand near the entrance to see what was the matter. His feathers were slightly fluffed up and his mane was standing up a little.

All the racket from outside was enough to quiet the fussy, sleepy child who was now crouched low in the bottom of the nest, practically dead center. Her silvery eyes were wide with surprise and slight fear from the tone of the distressed noises.

Savion fluttered in the air a little ways off from the entrance, looking around debating on what to do. Master Valentine and Mistress Mya would be able to take care of her probably better than he could. He elected to perch on a higher up branch of 'the familiar tree' to watch over what was going on.

Val knit his brows together and looked to Mya. "I'll go see what the deal is. Stay here with Jassia. I'll return soon." He kissed her before moving to the edge of the landing. He looked intently at the upset mimicgryph. "Lead the way. Take me to your master." He spread his wings and took to the sky, giving a few powerful flaps to gain a little altitude.

Hikari gave out several sobs of thanks to the male dragon as his mate retreated back into the cavern with a soft whisper of good luck to him. She then took to the skies herself, darting off over the trees like a dart towards a small area of smoking, fallen trees and where several scorch marks littered the ground; a sign of a heavy struggle, the victim himself was laying on his side with another, larger but darker colored Mimicgryph trying to apply some pressure to some unseen wound.

The Painter himself, one of the few short-backed Pan'luns, wore the tatterings of once regal robes. They were torn to pieces by something...or somethings...that had large claws and were not afraid to use them, if his wounds of many sizes were to judge by. He took in a ragged breath in his unconcious state, only to let it out in a series of light coughs. Thankfully, he had not been laying there long. But he still needed medical treatment and quickly.

Hikari quickly darted over and landed near the Painter, glancing him over and chattering at the darker counterpart of her species before glancing back at Valentine.

"Please Sir! Please! They hurt him! He tried to fight but....they...." Her broken sentence made it clear that whatever had chased them had played dirty during the fight. "PLEASE HELP HIM!"

Jassia sat up a little glancing from the entrance to her mother. She crooned to Mya uncertain of what just happened. The commotion broke her of her fit, but now she was confused and a little scared in addition to being sleepy. She curled her tail about her and gave a long chirp.

Valentine had no trouble following the fair as snow mimicgryph. The wounds to the forest told a portion of what happened. A terrible fight. Her master must've gotten caught up in whatever happened here. The scarred Painter landed a little distance away from the downed pan'lun. He raced forward to his side. "Oh, heaven's above." He looked from the pan to his two familiars. "Mya has more healing experience than I, if we get your master to her we can do more for him than just I can here. I have basic healing knowledge from my time in the military." He stretched his wings and looked to the darker mimicgryph. "Do you know if he has any broken bones? If so, I could have my familiar alert my mate for me to have her come here. If there isn't time, I can do what I can to help stabalize him enough to get him back to our den."

All the noise had awaken the sleeping Chupacabra who was nestled in the hollow at the base of the familiar tree. Rajani watched irritably as the light familiar and her master took off to lord knows where. She looked over to the snoozing Zimran who still was oblivious to the world. She slipped out and skulked over. A few yard from him she broke into a sprint and leapt on top of him, causing him to jolt awake with flailing wings and swishing tail. which caused the two mice that were nestled under one of his wings to go tumbling to the ground. She sat down on his chest and leered down at him. Sure she was generally nocturnal, but this chupacabra preferred to wake up on her own terms. "You knucklehead, you've missed an alarmed and distress strange mimicgryph and your Savion trying to wake you." She snorted and stepped down off of his chest. "I'd recommend getting into the habit of training yourself to becoming a lighter sleeper."

Zimran blinked at Rajani as she spoke to him and watched as he headed off to do something else. "Okay then..." He leapt into a sitting position. "My mice!"

Chaos, as the older-looking Mimicgryph was labeled by Hikari, held the latter in his wings as the newcomer Painter examined their Master. Glancing up at the directed question, one could see that his darker blue eyes held the same amount of worry as the female familiar's did, though he was not as expressive. "I don't believe so...our foes were the ones who rode upon the winds of the storm so our Master had enough sense to land even in the midst of that scuffle." The familiar clicked his beak in irritation as the memories came back. "They were relentless though, and came after us even as we took shelter here. Master knew there was a family living nearby so he tried to drive most of them off with his magic so they wouldn't get caught up in the battle...."

Chaos let his words linger off as he stared at his injured Master. Even during a fight for his life, he thought of someone elses' safety....

"However, I don't believe anything was beyond the wounds you see upon him." ............ "But like you said, it's best if a healer takes a look at him, Sir."

Valentine listened carefully to Chaos' telling of what happened. It made his blood run cold. Those who rode upon the winds of the storm. Wyverns. A few of the by the sound of it. They were near his mate and little Jassia. Had the wounded Pan not turned and fought them off the wyverns could well have killed him and all those dear to him. The thought made his feathers ruffle. They more than likely owed their lives to the unconscious Painter.

The scarred male nodded with a thoughtful humming sound. "Then we can take him to my den. You three will be welcomed and sheltered there until everyone is fit to leave on their own terms." Valentine reached his mind out to Rajani, who paused in her irate march away from Zimran.

"Rajani, send Zimran to me. I need help taking someone back to camp. Do hurry."

The chupacabra nodded at his words with a sigh before half turning back to her Master's son, who had evidently relocated his flung mice. "Master Valentine instructs me to order you to go to him immediately. No questions, no gripes about your mice. Go now. It is urgent."

Zim looked from the chupacabra down to Duni and Heller, who were huddled together in his hands. He whistled for Savion who promptly dove down to perch on his horns. "Alright, alright! I'm going!...Savion, please carefully take Heller and Duni up to your's and Ola's nest." The large mimicgryph agreed and swooped down to gently grabbed each of the mice with his feet. Giving a screech, he flew into the nest to let the small mice go, praying that Ola would peck him for listening to his master.

The young adult dragon rose to his feet then beat his wings. "Tell dad I'm on my way." Which the chupacabra promptly did. It wasn't long before Zim arrived, coming down near his father. He looked over the wounded Pan'lun. "Gods above..."

Valentine nodded to his son. "We need to get this gentleman to camp. He needs to get looked at by your mother...And for heaven's sake, close your gaping maw!" His son's open mouth shut with a click of his teeth. Val looked to the familiars. "My plan is to carry him while my son here flies underneath him for added support. We don't live far and we are skilled in the air. You follow along side. We shall be quick. Zim, be ready." His son nodded. Valentine moved to wrap his arms around Atemu. His wings were strong and he had no major worried about having to carry the unconscious pan'lun. His position was enough to ensure that his flight would be balanced in flight and that the majority of Atemu would be supported, either by himself or Zim. With a few powerful beats of his wings, the winged male rose into the air, pausing for his son to move into position. Once he was in place, they rose into the air. "Come along, you two. We'll be at camp in no time."

They flew hard, but carefully to not jostle the wounded male that they were bringing home. "Rajani! Tell Mya to be at the ready! We have a wounded Pan that will need her attention. His 'gryphs will be with him as well."

The familiar shifted to her wisp form to rise on the air and fly into the den. "Mistressss Mya, Masster Valentine says that you need to be at the ready. They will be arriving very shortly with a wounded Pan'lun and his two mimicgryphs."

Young Jassia had finally settled down and had drifted off into sleep, nestled in the exact center of the nest, snoozing as if she was the happiest thing in the world and she had never thrown a major tantrum.
