maybe it's the fact that they're older and more fragile than newer books and you feel liek you
have to protect them and care for them, sort of liek a parent.
or maybe it's because you have to wonder what all those older books have
been through- who's read them, what the readers of the book took from the experience of
the characters, how the book came to find itself in your possession...
maybe?

Well, for me it's the mystery behind the book, you know? Like, I buy a used book and I have to wonder; "Who was the previous owner? What were they thinking when they were reading the book? How did they care for it? What places has this book been?" Know what I mean?
