Very, very rarely does a crossover ever sit quite right with me. Usually it fails to such epic proportions, but occasionally, there will be a decent/good one. They're hard to find. Fanfiction is a bit harder to screw up, from what I've seen...
If a crossover makes sense and has a coherent plot, I don't mind it. Usually, there's none of that, so it makes me want to punch a baby... emo
Grammar and spelling is usually what makes me want to scream the most, though. If there's too many typos, it doesn't matter what it is, I click the back arrow on my web browser.

I saw this really amazing crossover of the new Star Trek movie and Firefly in which teen!Chekov and River had this cute scene. It was amazing. :'D
Most crossovers are fail, though, but a lot of them are fanfiction.
Because they were written by fans. neutral

Usually, crossovers fail, but I did find this one Harry Potter and Fullmetal Alchemist crossover that was really very good!
But, that was the only crossover that worked...
Fanfiction<333 (unless they are COMPLETE FAIL)
Crossovers... ☠ kill 'em dead.

I'd say crossovers are much easier to fail at than regular fanfiction, because doing a good crossover requires a bit more effort.
I think the most epic crossover I've ever read was Dr. McNinja/Dr. Horrible/Batman.
It was actually really well done, though it leaned more on Dr. McNinja than anything else.

Crossovers are harder to do well, unless it takes place in kingdom Hearts...because you can go to different worlds...
But because they are hard to do, they fail more.
