For a moment, Aliana couldn't help but wonder if she'd be happy in a pack like situation, before brushing the thought aside. “I'm sure you will,” Aliana said, trying to sound reassuring, “packs are usually after good Betas!” She smiled back at Soleil, looking unfamiliar with the gesture.
Aliana huffed a little at Soleils words. “Well, you could have asked then,” she pointed out but was soon distracted by the scent floating passed her nose. The strength of the scent, and the fact she could smell it at all, proved they were close, making her tail wag in excitement. Nodding at Soleil's words, she shifted a little nervously. Great, now if she failed, she was going to have an audience to witness it. Sucking in a deep breathe, she seemed to steady her nerves. “Alright!”
She set of at a jog to reach the forest edge, moving through the foliage carefully. She didn't really know how close the deer were, so she didn't want to risk making a noise before she'd even seen them. Keeping herself low and thinking it was lucky she was already down wind of the prey, she continued, following her nose. She stopped after a little while when she was finally able to tell how close she was to the deer. There were four deer. A fawn, two females and a male. She took another steadying breathe and glanced back, checking where Soleil was.

Soleil smiled kindly but couldn't believe that she was being reassured by someone younger. "Thanks." She said chuckling at Aliana's smile, "I take it you don't smile often. You look uncomfortable with that smile."
Soleil laughed and shook her head. "No no no. I wasn't going to ask. You had to ask. I couldn't do it for you." She said knowing that Aliana wouldn't get the reason until she got older. She nodded and began following the inexperienced hunter.
Following at a slightly slower pace, she stepped carefully through the foliage and made sure to not step on anything. She didn't bother to duck down yet, smelling and hearing that she was still a ways from the deer and they wouldn't be able to see her yet.
As she drew closer she slunk down to the ground and moved up beside Aliana. She looked at the deer already picking out which one she would go after even though it would be the pink female to pick, it was a habit so she couldn't help it. When Aliana glanced back she nodded and moved her head forward in a 'go ahead' gesture.

Aliana shifted, looking a little uncomfortable when Soleil mentioned her smile, the tiny smile slipping from her face. “I don't smile a lot at others, I smile to myself, just not at helixes,” she explained quietly.
Crouched down in the bushes and other covering plants, Aliana crept a little closer to the edge. Seeing Soleil's nod to go ahead, she took a deep breathe and eyed the deer. The female and her fawn were further away from Aliana and the buck was watching it's young protectively. The other female was closer to Aliana and didn't seem to be as closely watched. Knowing the mother would run away to protect her baby and that the buck would probably try and protect the fawn as well, she locked her eyes on the solitary female. It was probably a silly move, seeing as the doe was quite large but she didn't have a chance at the fawn, not with the buck and mother looking after it so closely.
Flicking her ears and waiting until the doe moved a little closer to where she laid hidden, she hesitated just for a moment before launching herself out of her hiding and towards the deer. Immediately, the mother and baby started to bolt away, disappearing into the surrounding brush easily, and the male had followed the baby, panicked.
Aliana latched her teeth around the does neck, yelping as she was kicked in the stomach by a powerful hind leg. She had caught it, but with the similarity in sizes, she didn't have a hope of killing it without being injured too.

Soleil nodded. She could understand that. "That's alright. Some don't smile at others at all.... or they have a really creepy one." She whispered.
Watching Aliana she quickly gathered which one the adolescent would go after. It was a good choice, the doe that wasn't close to the others. She watched as the pink female got ready to spring nodding to herself on how she waited until the doe was closer.
Making sure the buck had gone after the fawn and other doe before darting out, Soleil came out in time to see Aliana get kicked. She quickly rushed forward, snarling and snapping at the back legs. She ripped the tendons in both legs crippling the doe and causing it to fall. She would wait to see if Aliana could finish the kill before stepping in any further.

Aliana snickered at Soleil's words, she had seen a few helixes like that. Some people just didn't have a good smile, or a face that could smile. “I just don't find much to smile about with other helixes,” she said with a small laugh, which was an odd sound, a small snicker that was almost inaudible.
Aliana wouldn't admit it but she was glad when Soleil rushed forward and snapped the back legs, momentarily winded by the doe. Her teeth were still locked around the doe's neck so she was dragged down with the deer as it fell from the attack. Bracing herself on the ground, she tightened her teeth and jerked her head a little, closing around the windwipe. It was easy now it could no longer attack her, though it tried with it's front legs. Growling and pressing down on it's shoulder to keep it still, her teeth around it's neck, she waited. After only a minute or two, the doe had stopped moving and only then did Aliana release it. Stepping back, she panted a little, still winded from the kick to her chest from the doe earlier. Blood stained around her mouth from her kill and as she licked at it, she looked proud of herself. She'd taken down a deer, and with only a little help from the beta. Her tail wagged a little and she glanced at Soleil.

Soleil let out a little huff. "Sometimes it is hard to find something to smile about." She said giving Aliana an odd look at her small laugh. It was a strange sound.
Looking up from the doe Soleil saw Aliana wag her tail. She walked towards the head and reached out to the neck with her teeth. Grabbing the bigger neck was a bit hard but she had to make sure it was dead. The best way to do that was to try and break the neck. She gave it a violent twist and heard the satisfying crunch of the bones breaking. "There. Now we don't have to worry about her coming back and kicking us." She said. She had done something similar to what Aliana had done, suffocating the deer, only had done it wrong. The deer was only out for a bit and had kicked her badly. She learned her lesson after that. "Good job on it though. Going for the neck is good when you've got someone else. Otherwise aim for the legs to immobilize the prey and then go for the kill." She said giving a tip.

Aliana nodded in agreement, ignoring the strange look she received for her laugh.
Aliana watched Soleil with interest, feeling a little silly for not having thought to break the neck first, but it made sense to do it. There was no point to wait and see if it tried to get away again, it was better to be safe. Listening to her tip, she nodded and tilted her head to the side as she listened. “I'll make sure to keep that in mind, thank you for the tip,” she said quietly. She hesitated, before saying, “thank you for helping, it probably would have gotten away if you hadn't stepped in.” She then motioned to the fallen prey, “are you hungry?”

Soleil stepped back from the dead doe and turned to look at Aliana. "No problem. Glad I could be of some help." She said licking the little bit of blood off her chops, "I doubt it would have gotten far with the neck wound you gave it. If you could keep up to it, it would have bleed out if it ran, making it easy to get." She looked at the deer and nodded. "Yeah. I could use a bite to eat." She said moving to the doe's belly. She ripped into the fur digging (her muzzle and teeth) to the muscle and meat. She ripped a decent sized piece out and chewed on it, blood dripping down the sides of her mouth.

Aliana tilted her head, “really? I suppose that is another way of capturing it, injuring it and letting it run itself to the ground.” She hadn't thought of that, when her prey got away she usually just let it go, not bothering to follow it. She'd have to be more careful now. Waiting until Soleil had taken what she wanted in the form of the meet, Aliana moved forward and grabbed hold of the back leg at the hip, tearing off some of the fleshy meet and settling to eat it. She hadn't had deer in a long time, and never one she had caught herself.

Soleil nodded still chewing on the meat. "Yes it is one way. You'll learn different ways as you continue hunting." She said after finishing up what she had. She moved back forward and tore another slice of meat out with a rib. She carried it away and laid down, content to chew on the bone. The meat was quite good, being fresh and younger than some deer she had before.

“I'm sure I will, now that I know a bit more about the basics,” Aliana admitted, “it was a little hard to learn new ways without learning the basics first.” She finished off the chuck of meet she had and went and tore out some of the flesh from the stomach as well, savoring it. It was nice eating with someone else too, someone who wasn't trying to compete with her for the best food at least. Aliana quickly ate her fill, going back for some more of the stomach meat before lying down and letting the food settle a little. “I'd forgotten what deer tasted like,” Aliana murmured, having been on rabbits and other small prey for a long time.

Soleil nodded. "Yeah it can be hard to do anything without the basics." She said finishing off the meat on the bone. She began chewing on the bone, trying to get to the marrow. Bones were always so tasty. Hearing Aliana say she had forgotten what deer tasted like made her chuckle. "I guess it was a long time since you last had one."

Aliana nodded, stretching out as Soleil spoke, content from her fill of deer. “It has been a long time,” Aliana murmured, ears twitching as heard something in the distance. Sniffing, she could smell rabbits, she must have been near a burrow or something. Glancing into the distance, her tail flicking. She wasn't hungry anymore, she was quite happy with her full belly but the smell was tempting. It would give her practice as well, hunting smaller prey and practice in creeping. Smiling awkwardly at Soleil, she climbed to her feet again. “I'm sorry to rush off, I hope you don't mind,” she hesitated, “you can have the rest of the deer.” Shifting uncomfortably, she didn't really think of how she could leave, perhaps say goodbye? No point really, it wasn't like they weren't going to ever meet again. Instead, Aliana flicked her tail, eager to hunt again, “let's hunt again together sometime, alright? When I've gotten in some more practice, of course.”

Soleil looked up from her bone head tilted. What's got her in such a rush. She sniffed the air and caught the scent of rabbit. Ah that was it. She must want to go after the small prey. "Thanks. Don't think I can finish it all myself but I'm sure someone or something else will find it and finish it." She said nodding, "Sure. I'd love to hunt with you again once you've gotten more practice." She returned to her bone and waved goodbye.
