Introduction to Ancient Runes
It has been seem throughout all history, the Runes that most muggles consider to be 'hieroglyphics'. But in the wizarding world, these writings are simply commonly known as 'The Ancient Runes'. In this book you will learn about the different ancient runes and this histories.
Chapter 1 - The History of Ancient Runes
Ancient Runes were used back before even the muggles had come up with a different name for them. These symbols, or runes, are used to write in an ancient style; or to be sued to write in secret. Back long ago, wizards used these runes to set up trade and commerce. Also as well as using these ancient letters for passing along secret messages to other wizards. To the muggles, there are caves where these Ancient texts are found on the walls. To the wizards, they would be used as a map, to tell who lived there, or to just give some sort of direction or joke to one another.
In this day and age, Ancient Runes are used to write stories or a secret message. Some of these runes being used as a warning or direction, can be found in some of the ancient lands like Egypt or Asia. Some have claimed to have even found some of the most ancient runes in Europe. But these spots have started to erode away.
Some warnings can be described as ones that would be fatal to someone. "Take only what you need, nothing more." is a very simple warning that is commonly written in Ancient Runes. This is to confuse the people who do not understand this, and can cause some great confusion amongst those who do not understand, and do not follow the warning.
If you can read Ancient Runes, you will be able to read, understand, write, and transcribe these ancient artifacts. There are eight main runes, and in this book you shall learn all about them and their history.
Chapter 2 - The Runes
In the ancient runes language, there is a total of eight main letters and a few sub-letters. Each main letter has a meaning and also can stand just for the American letter itself.
Fehu “FAY-who” - The letter F in the English alphabet. The meaning on this rune is money, cattle, and wealth which is often interpreted as reward, wealth, and nourishment. In the past cattle would be described as wealth, due to the trade and commerce of the people in the past. Gaining cattle would mean that you have food for a while, or you could trade the cattle for something, or sell the cattle for money.
Uruz “Oo-rooze” - The letter U in the English alphabet. The meaning of this rune refers to the Aurochs, a now-extinct European wild ox. This rune can mean power, danger, health, potential, and even wildness. When this rune appears in a map or directions, it would be clear that you could use some caution when approaching that area.
Thurisaz “Thoo-ree-sawz” - This rune represents the TH sound ind the Engligh alphabet. Refers to "Frost Giant", and most often it can be interpreted as giant, monster, demon or devil reflecting this original meaning.
Ansuz “Awn-sooze” - This rune represents the letter A in the English alphabet. Referring to a "God", presumably to the Gods and Goddesses of the Aesir and Vanir. In interpretation, it is viewed as communication and thus wisdom, knowledge, insight and truth.
Raido "Rye-doh" - This rune represent the letter R in the roman alphabet. Major figures of this rune is the sun, which travels through the sky on a daily routine, no matter what hour it is, the sun is slowly traveling. It is therefore vital that when interpreting this rune, the analyzer must be able to understand the complex idea of eternal cycles and that no shortcuts to a journey's end exist.
Kauno "Cow-noh" - This rune represents the letter K in the English alphabet. When darkness has blindfolded you, a fire will shed light upon the path and guide you in the right direction.
Gebo "Ghay-bow" - This letter represents the letter G in the English alphabet. A sign of love and forgiveness.
Wunjo "Vun-yoh" - This rune represents the letter W in the English alphabet. Thus rune means joy and happiness.
There are more runes that can be found. This this book only covers the eight main ones. the other letters of the ancient runes have no meaning, and only represent letters.
