User ImageKaris watched angrily as the girl proceeded to join the defense of the travelers and as her own people were beaten into submission. Typical. Another human, and more Mystics were stuck down. Her knuckles were sore from the moment she had begun tightening her fists, clenching them as she grew more and more frustrated at being unable to attack. Nothing showed her feelings outwardly, but for the pristine color of white at the stressed knuckles of her fists.

When the fight was over she glowered at the girl who asked for their names and remained silent. The effort of a friendly introduction right at this moment proved to be too much for the effort she was already expending at remaining collected, and so she turned her lilac-tinted shoulder in a cold response.

Her senses told her that the girl had seen her response to the traps of the Imps, but she had done enough in the way of masking it after wards that it now seemed she was safe from discovery. She would have to be much more careful in the future.

Zeo: "My name is Zeo Aeterna, I come from Medina, I'm traveling and at the same time, I offered my services as a swordsman"

Zeo could notice Karis' disruption, he wasn't sure how to proceed, she was a witness of how her kind was attacked, on the other hand, the Captain had agreed not to harm the Mystics, Zeo takes the chance with he introduction of Rassandre and approaches Karis, whispering

Zeo: "I know it's not pleasant, I'm sorry you had to be witness of that, I can only imagine how you must feel..."

User ImageHis sympathetic tone only caused to fan the flames of her anger. You're right, she snapped back mentally, you can only imagine. She was able to restrain herself from expressing these thoughts outwardly and, due to being well versed in the art of deception, she was able to convert that anger into a much more useful emotion.

Being hostile will get you no where Karis.

She turned to him slightly, her clenched jaws and glowering gaze becoming a visage of poorly concealed regret and sadness.

"You only acted in the best interests of everyone," You, she said, making a point of recognizing his heroism, "As hard as it may be for me to watch, I suppose I have to realize that these travelers are innocents." Innocents, she sneered inwardly, as if there is such a thing.

It was convincing enough of course for her to convey no ill intentions towards Zeo or the others and perhaps even enough to build some trust. Trust was very valuable.

Eric Lecarde: "I suppose we can save the formal greetings for later, for now, we must head to Fiona's Shrine, we can see it from here, in there, we can get some rest and refreshments, I intend to learn more from this fascinating weapon of yours, Lady Sara"

The Captain smiles at Sara.

Eric Lecarde: "Before I became a Captain of the Military, I was in the Weapon Development Program, so I find your design intriguing, I wish to see my mistakes and correct them, yours has more power than my designs would ever have, so I conclude there must be something I must be doing incorrectly"

He then directs himself at the party.

Eric Lecarde: "I don't believe there would be any problems if we welcome anyone, so let us go together to Fiona Shrine, we will be a lot safer that way"

With the Captain ahead, the party resumes its way to Fiona's Shrine, in a few minutes, they were before Fiona's Shrine, a majestic structure that would forever pay tribute to the kind spirit that made it possible for the forest to flourish once again, Captain Lecarde steps ahead and knocks on the door, a few seconds later, the door opens, Sister Luz receives the party.

Sister Luz: "Eric! Kind Light, it is so good to see you! And you have brought guests! Please, come on in, and make yourselves at home, get some rest!"

Sister Luz calls the other nuns to help them receive the guests, she recognizes Rassandre and she smiles kindly at her.

Sister Luz: "Goodness gracious, Rassandre! You look radiant! Ever since Sir Bael's visit it's been as if you were transformed into someone else!"

Eric Lecarde: "Sir Bael?"

Sister Luz: "Why yes! He's a Knight at the service of King Guardia, his family christened him just as one of the heroes from the middle ages! Excuse me for a moment, Eric, I must make sure there's nothing missing in the kitchen, please, make yourself at home!"

Sister Luz leaves rapidly, while Captain Lecarde meditates, there was something he didn't like.

Eric Lecarde: "I've been over Guardia Castle over 5 times already... I don't recall any knights under that name..."

Zeo walks into the Shrine, noticing the unique design, a perfect balance between a holy place and a welcoming shelter for travelers, the mood instantly changed from sacred and holy, to a friendly one, he then looks at Karis and approaches her

Zeo: "I know it might look as rude from me but, would it be wrong if I buy you something? Maybe you're hungry or thirsty..."

Zeo knew she would still feel enraged for what she saw earlier, but just like he knew that not all Mystics would attack humans like that, he would have to at least try to make to make her see that not all humans hate Mystics just because they were once at war

Zeo: "I just... Well, I don't even know how to say it... I guess I don't want you to think that the hatred between humans and Mystics still rages on... I know the Mystics are a fascinating culture and their social structure was by far, better than the one humans had... Forgive me, I must be babbling now, if you decide to take on my offer, please, let me know"

Zeo bows slightly and heads to the food court

Sara was embarissed by the Captians interest in her toy. Back home, she was told it was a lost cause, that because of magic and Lavos, no one would ever need such weapons. The thought of home still stung her heart, but she tried to keep her head up as they got to the shrine.

She found a corner to sit in and started to dismantle her homeade rifle. She was homesick, so much had happened that she didn't think about it until now.

User ImageKaris' eyes were drawn from the large, encompassing hall to meet Zeo's eyes thoughtfully as he spoke to her kindly in the great hall of the shrine. She remained someone impassive as he made efforts to ease her tension, and she would like to believe that she was indifferent to it, but there was a sneaking suspicion within her that she was indeed flattered by his compassion. She did not respond right away as he extended the invitation and departed, instead she separated herself from the group and sat in one of the pews nearby to clear her thoughts.

She found her eyes wandering the walls and her thoughts wandering somewhere completely different. When she had told her father she would take care of things she also had committed herself to his expectations. Even the slightest bit of familiarity with these humans would condemn her in his eyes as, like most of his generation, he still did harbor a strong dislike for humans of any kind.

What are you doing? She asked herself, scoffing at her own inability to behave accordingly.

And yet, immediately after she asked herself the question, she found herself standing and following after Zeo from where he had headed. Once she had located the table he had seated himself at she approached to join him. Tentatively she seated herself beside him, hesitant because his previous kindness had disarmed her. She was so used to guarding herself with a cold and aloof persona that when she was presented with someone who seemed genuinely interested in being a friend... well, it was unfamiliar territory to her.

She was hungry. She clung to that reasoning in order to convince herself that no, she was not going soft thank you very much. Mystics had much higher metabolisms than humans, therefore they were always hungry. Yes, that was a very rational excuse.

Rassandre smiled and recognized the authoritative of the second man who spoke, not only by his matching uniform to those soldiers that were present but also by the air of deference that the others had for him. When he urged the party forward she fell into step behind them, listening only slightly to the various conversations whirring about. She felt trouble stirring within her at the sight of the travelers, the ones that she was certain now were the ones she was meant to travel with. The trouble was that she was certain that she was not the only one who recognized them.

She dismissed the feeling as they approached the shrine, its now familiar walls of stone and grand wooden doors appearing out of the clearing of woods before them. A warm smile was once more present as she was greeted graciously by Sister Luz and she moved aside to allow the party to better disperse and find hospitality in the shrine.

But as she watched them all find their own means of resting and relaxing she felt the troubling feeling intensify. Quickly finding an opening in the hustle and bustle that was new to the quiet shrine she slipped out of one of the shrine's side doors and sought out the peace of the small clearing she had spent so much time in the past weeks. With an exhalation of breath she seated herself with her staff across her lap, running her hands up and down the smoothly cared for wood as she calmed herself and tried to be rid of the pressure upon her mind.

He saw them. He knew who they were. That did not bode well for her, after all these weeks he had become almost a nightmare that she had been rid of. Of course she knew this day would come eventually but now that it was here that foreknowledge did not bring her any ease. She could feel his impatience rising, his thirst for action after all of this waiting, and she felt her own body go cold with the recognition of his presence.

Vox stood abruptly from the seat the girl had rested on only a moment before, marching with the determination of a soldier amongst his column as he passed back through the side door and into the shrine. His eyes, darker than Rassandre's own, did not perceive anything but the tall, pale guardsman Lecarde. He was standing on his own mulling over something or another and so, discreetly, Vox maneuvered past his men and the travelers to stand near him.

The Enlightened one knew that his presence was discomforting for those around him, the glances he received when he passes those Earthbound ones here and there told him enough to know that despite their limitations they were capable of sensing the disrupted energies about him and Rassandre, the convergence of the two souls in one body created enough of an anomaly that even without a higher knowledge of magica or science, their instincts alerted them to the incongruity. He was of course as unconcerned with their discomfort as he was for the timid girl he now shared a body with. It pained her when he had taken control so swiftly, her restrained knowledge making it all too easy for him to master the control switch now that he had had the time to rest.

When Lecarde looked up from his own meditation at Vox/Rassandre's approach Vox spoke with a voice unlike Rassandre's warm spirited lilt. It was devoid of a friendliness and was instead ample with an air of authority and confidence akin to Lecarde's own speech.

"I will travel with your party to the bridge. I am returning to Truce and it would be safer for me to be a part of this group as it travels to the Festival."

The Captain looks with curiosity at the new development taking place, certainly, the girl was something special, now, her voice had changed, her eyes had changed, and the kind spirit she was a few moments ago, seemed to vanish, he simply laughs softly.

Eric Lecarde: "Private Veex, guard the entrance"

Veex: "Yes, Captain!"

The Captain looks at the girl again, it seemed as if she was another person entirely, the Captain was amused.

Eric Lecarde: "While I appreciate your help outside and you won my sympathy and gratitude, you seem to have lost those with your current behavior, I'm in charge of protecting those who are traveling to Truce, you don't demand, you ask, you request. Try again, ask this time"

He holds his spear with his right hand, his determined eyes were looking right into Vox's eyes, he knew there was something different in the girl, he had heard from Sister Luz of a strange visitor who was staying with them, all he could do was assume this girl was that visitor.

Eric Lecarde: "Unless you ask correctly, I won't be able to consider your request and will be forced to decline to your desires"

Zeo smiles when he sees Karis sitting beside him, he looks at the Sister

Zeo: "Sister, everything she gets charge it to me, it's my treat"

The Sister smiles as she goes back to the kitchen to get some food for her, he was having a plate of meat and a jar of ale

Zeo: "You know, it's the first time I travel with a Mystic as well, my grampa told me much about your culture, and when he saw me interested, he lent me some books he wrote himself, about tales and traditions, I do not lie when I say that I think you're more evolved than humans in many things, I understand it can be very hard to be out of Medina, especially with the things going on... You'll find that there are many understanding humans out there, just give yourself some time"

The Sister returns with Karis' food and smiles at her

Sister: "Here you go! I hope you enjoy it, if you want some more, please, don't hesitate to ask for more!"

Zeo smiles as the Sister places the plate in front of Karis and gets to his own plate, after a few seconds, he looks at the rest of the party

Zeo: "It's a very interesting party, don't you think? Everyone seems to have a different interest to travel, and we are all in the same place at the same time..."

At that moment, Zeo notices how Rassandre approaches Captain Lecarde and seems to confront him, he remains in silence, looking at the scene and how the Captain was replying to Rassandre's sudden harsh words, but then, he sensed something else within her, he stands up, still looking at her, as he whispers

Zeo: "There's... Something wrong... It's not her anymore... It's someone else"

User ImageKaris continued to struggle with the strange, alien sensation of being unsure of what to say while Zeo continued to speak and treat her so kindly. She looked at him while he spoke, a slight expression of confusion upon her face as she listened, and when the Sister arrived with the food and both Zeo and the Nun treated her so kindly she had just about had enough. She didn't understand how these humans could act exactly opposite from everything she had been taught and told of as she grew up in Medina, to be treated like this she could only think that she was either being pitied or made fun of.

Her sense of unease grew exponentially almost to the point of diminishing her hunger. As she was about to say something to the point of defending her pride in the face of such reprieve she surprised herself with what words she did speak, as quiet and abrupt as they were.

"Thank you"

And that was it. That was all she could manage it seemed, for the rest of the time that Zeo spoke she merely listened politely while she ate. As pleasant as it was to enjoy the food and the company it was interrupted after only a short time when Zeo stood, distressed at something he had seen.

Without standing Karis followed his gaze and saw the girl from before speaking with the captain. As Zeo whispered she saw too how her posture had changed, everything about her demeanor was now different than it had been in the forest. And besides that... it took Karis a moment but when she saw it it was undeniable. There was an ominous energy about her, something magical, and the fact that it had not been present previously only added to the hostile nature.

"It's someone else."

That's what Zeo had said and, considering his rather extraordinary background that he had disclosed to Karis back in Porre, she didn't doubt it. In conjunction with the anomaly about the girl's body it was indisputable.

"But how?" She wondered aloud. It was no spell, neither illusion nor shape change, to appear as the girl. It was the girl, but it wasn't. She was more disturbed by this outcome than she had been by anything that she had so far encountered on this journey and as such she was loathe to do the discovering herself.

"Whatever magic is responsible for it it's beyond me."

Vox's dark eyes narrowed as he regarded the Captain's determined posture, his eyes meeting Vox's defiantly and unblinking. For the second time since waking up in Rassandre's limited body Vox felt his anger rise at the helplessness he felt in the face of a challenge. Had this Eartbound one dared to behave so boldly, and had Vox been in his rightful body, there would have been no contest between the two of them. Vox felt what color was left in Rassandre's face drain in a silent rage, he also felt what he was sure was Rassandre attempting to rebel against him. She was appalled at the thought of offending this man and even more dreadful of what Vox might do for, just as he could sense her emotions she too could sense his.

Outraged, Vox continued to meet the Captain's eyes until slowly his demeanor changed to a menacing mischievousness. A smirk crept up ever so slightly as the Enlightened one calmed and reminded himself of the importance of rationality. He wanted to travel with this man, if only for the sake of engaging himself with those he protected, and so it would only be self-defeating to continue being so aggressive.

With some difficulty Vox forced himself to relax, to dismiss the tenseness that had crept up into Rassandre's body during his anger, and adopt a dismissive posture.

"Of course dear Captain," It was almost a sneer, the way he emphasized the rank as it rolled of the tongue, "but where have my manners gone. I would appreciate your protection ever so much as I travel to Truce, if you would only be so gracious to grant it."

If anything betrayed the falsity of Vox's politeness it was his eyes, dark grey stormy eyes that could not hide the hatred and the rage he felt as he was forced to humble himself before an Enlightened one. The Scholar longed for the pristine halls of his beloved floating city, the rightful segregation of those like himself between those like the Captain, a world where this impudence would not have been rewarded. But even in that longing Vox knew that if he was to get back to that city, to his own time, then he would have to adapt.

(2am and I can't sleep...)

There was a loud "bang!" in the corner and a puff of smoke. When it cleared, nothing was burned, but Sara was covered in a fine layer of soot. Her rifle lay at her feet and it's firing mechanism was in her hands. Eyes fell on her. She was grinning from ear to ear.

"I figured out what I did wrong," she said, "uh, anyone got a washrag?"
