Riyo Ongaku lol, I'll assume that the red gyarados everyone got a shot at doesn't count? 8D
In my 13 or so years (however long it's been XD ) I have never encountered a shiny pokemon. The reason I'm breeding Eevees now is to get a shiny one. XD
I also have a friend who breeds Charmanders simply to try to get a shiny one...and usually when she plays her Ruby game she has the gameshark on to only produce charmanders just in case...and the one time she didn't the first thing she ran into was a shiny Pidgey. Breeding for a shiny... o_o That must be... Time consuming. D:

I just remembered something. You remember way back when Pokemon Colosseum for N64 came out? My brother transfered/looked at his lapras from his Yellow version and it turned out to be a shiny.

Yea, if you named a Pokemon a certain way, you could change its appearance in the game. I noticed that the opponent Muk or Weezing was more green and so I thought I'd try and copy that style, seeing what Pokemon came out.
Also, apparently, my nii-chan did a variation with mewtwo and got blood-red once. D=

I've tried to chain for one, but fail or give up. All these were random encounters.

Only one Mistress has caught is a shiny luvdisc, and she wasn't even looking for it.

The only shiny pokemon I have is a shiny Spinda. I found it by pure chance on my Emerald game.

I run into at least one a week... I battle alot. I never really thought them to be speical in any way. when I do get them I transfer them to pearl and trade them away for something nice (Like another johto pokemon for my collection)
edit: although in my many trys to capture mewtwo with a pokeball I happened to run across a shiney mew two that was green instead of purple I caught it with a masterball and I hord it like its gold...

I have never, at least that I know of, seen a shiney, other then the red gyarados from crystal. sad
