This thread is dedicated to the discussion on peoples opinions on the Emelan world (the Circle Series).

Conversations might involve
What did you like/not like about the series, in your opinion was it better or worse than Tortall, and much much more.

In my opinion, I liked Emelan more than Tortall (though I love them all). I think this is mostly because of the idea of ambient magic. Plus tris is just awesome.

I didn't like any of the Emelan books. I read them because, as guild leader, I have an image to uphold, I just didn't like them.

They were to childish to me. Even though the Tortall books are oriented around young adults they could still be enjoyed by adults. The Emelan books didn't relate to me as an adult at all.

Plus, I found them to be boring.

See there I have to disagree with you. I respect your opinion but I do not feel that is true. I agree the first series was childish, but then again so were the characters. I might not have related to them too much being 18, at least not until will of the empress, but I found them immensely enjoyable, especially because when you read them they did not sound like Tortall at all, which I thought is a plus becase with many authors who try to do series set in other place, the turn out to either be the same or forcefully different.

That's just how I felt about the books. That doesn't make it false. Saying something isn't true implies that it has no logical standing or factual standing at all.

A better way to phrase such a thing is to say, "While I respect your opinion, I have to disagree."

It's more tactful that way.

But more to the topic, yes the two worlds are vastly different. Tammy did a very good job separating herself from Tortall to come up with Emelan.

Those words were the ones I was looking for, I hope I did not offend you, that was not the point of this thread.
I especially like how the magic is completely different in both worlds, some of the theories are the same, but that is it, or at least in my mind.

It takes quite a bit to offend me. No worries. =3

You're right, the magic is different. That's probably the main thing that set the two worlds, Tortall and Emelan, apart.

I agree that it is pretty much the main separator of the two worlds, but personally I think that it is impressive that she was able to create the two totally different types of magic, something that many of the authors have been unable to do.

I have to admit that while the plots of the books might not be as adult or intricate as the tortall ones, I find that I really enjoy the characters that she has created. they are also really nice when I want to read something that is pretty simple, but still really good.

I haven't read the Tortall books, but I must say that the reason I love the Emelan books is the characters. Tamora Pierce goes so deeply into their personalities, their motivations, their origins and thoughts and feelings and why they are the way they are.

See I personally thought that some of her Emelan characters were a bit too similar to some of her Tortall ones but that's just me. I have all of her books but I rarely pick up an Emelan unless it's Will of the Empress and I have no other TP book at the house I'm at. I have yet to read Melting Stones. I'll occasionally look at Shatterglass but that was because most if not all my Tortall books were at my dad's. Out of Circle of Magic I thought Tris and Briar's books were the best but still kinda pale. Same way for Circle opens. Will of the Empress is the best Emelan in my opinion. Tortall wins out everytime. I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I've even skimmed through an Emelan book. WotE included.

I like Emelan, but not as much as Tortall. I do think they were aimed at younger readers, except for Will of the Empress, which I consider the best in the series. I think the characters in Emelan are excellent, because they seem to be more mystical and fantastical than those in Tortall. This is a good thing as well as a bad thing, because I can relate to Tortallian characters more. Oh, well.
