Are there any two characters in the series that you think have several similar characteristics, but many people wouldn’t normally think to compare them to each other? As in, not Fred and George, or James and Sirius, because we already know they have a lot in common. wink

To help get people inspired (hopefully!), here are a few of mine:

Remus and Dumbledore

They are the only characters that Harry describes as having “twinkling eyes” when they tell a joke. 4laugh

They’re forgiving towards others, for they don’t want to live harbouring resentment for people. However, they have difficulty forgiving themselves for wrongs they’ve committed.

They’re kind, gentle, and merciful. (I know Dumbledore was conniving, but no one can accuse him of being cruel.)

They both try to remain calm and polite no matter what the situation is. For example, the “Hello, Peter” from Remus in PoA and the “Hello, Tom” from Dumbledore in OotP seem very similar.

Severus and Sirius

They’re very passionate. They either love you or hate you; there’s no in-between. If they love you, then they are unfailingly loyal to you.

They’re insensitive. Sirius never tried to understand how Kreacher felt about being alone in a house for so long after everyone the elf had loved had died, and Severus certainly never tried to empathise with…well, anyone.

They’re biased. Maybe Sirius is even more so since he only unfairly dislikes Slytherins, and Severus holds contempt for everyone in general! lol

They hold grudges to a childish degree.

Luna and Trelawney

They don’t have many friends. Trelawney cried when Umbridge tried to remove her from the castle, so she couldn’t have had anyone else to go to, and we all know about how Luna fit in.

They both believe things that others consider to be unrealistic.

They recognise that others deem them mad, and announce their beliefs aloud in spite of that. heart

They are dreamers, so they clash with pragmatic people. Hermione is to Luna what McGonagall is to Trelawney.

Severus and Remus

The world treated them harshly, so they automatically mistrust people and distance themselves from others.

They’re very reserved and hide their emotions behind a mask. Severus’ mask is indifference and Remus’ is politeness, but they’re both masks just the same. ninja

Their own self-control is important to them. It’s significant to Remus since the only time he can control himself is in his human shape, and it’s relevant to Severus for the purpose of self-preservation.

They’re subtle and good liars. They had to be since they both had secrets to hide and spy-type work to do for the Order.

Ron and Draco

Both were raised in pureblood families and had a lot to live up to. Draco because he was expected to be exactly what his family wanted him to be, and was an only child, so he had to be perfect. Ron because all of his older siblings, even Fred and George, had done so many great things.

Both were at times under appreciated. Ron was the last boy in the family, and all of his older siblings had done so much that, until he got his prefects badge, he didn't seem to get much attention. How else do you explain the fact that Molly knitted him maroon sweaters when he hated maroon or the corned beef sandwiches, which he also hated. Draco was forced into being a Death Eater because of his fathers incompetence, without any consideration to him. He was treated as though he didn't matter.

Both had to live up to impossible expectations. Ron was expected to become as good as his siblings, which was a ridiculous considering what all of them had done. Draco was expected to kill Dumbledore, something that Voldemort himself couldn't do.
