Being a member in a small town, I have had plenty of opportunities to dress immodestly. I am aware off all the guidelines for women, but I have always wondered if it was bad to wear skirts and shorts above the knees, or if it was bad to see the knees in general. ( Socks can cover the knee, does that make a difference?) Its just a nagging question I'd like to have answered. Thank you!! biggrin ~Sayo

I think that this is a bit of a personal choice. I don't think there's a specific length where anyone has said "Ok, this is the shortest hemline you can wear." If you happen to have a skirt that goes above the knee, just ask yourself if you would feel comfortable wearing it in Heavenly Father's presence.
However, I do know that at EFY, my counselor made all the girls in our group kneel on the ground, and if the skirt didn't touch the floor while kneeling, she asked us to go back and change. I don't know if that's a church-wide standard, though.

It's all about what you feel comfortable with and you have to ask yourself if you would feel comfortable wearing certain clothes in the presence of of Heavenly Father. Personally I don't feel comfortable wearing skirts that are above my knees, unless I have leggings under the skirt.
EDIT: It also needs to be an appropriate length in order to cover the garment.

rolleyes okay, I didn't think this was an issue but okay.
Personally, I've been told so long as it covering you garments it was all good. BYU policy has them cover half the knee standing, I perfer having it touch the knee while standing at least. It really is a bit on preference, but if you can't wear garments in it, don't wear it. and don't get smaller garments just to adjust that either. I've been told they have to hit specific areas so follow the rules there.

The issue isn't so much "does it show knee?" as "does it keep you covered through a full range of movement?" I can still remember my surprise as I sat across the table from one of my ESL students and realized that her skirt - which I don't remember as appearing terribly short when she was standing - clearly flashed her panties when she was sitting.

I don't know if that's a church-wide standard, though. They used to do the same in schools, back when my mom (who is in her 60's) was in high school. Oddly enough, she said they made them change if their skirts were TOO long also.

Well, im not totally sure, but if its a little above the knee its not to bad since i were some myself. But i do know that leggings do not make it modest. They sent out a campus wide announcement at college stating what is modest and what is not but i deleted it. But that is what i do remember.

I would say that it is your own judgement, what ever you think is right.

Ummmm.... you will know if it's okay immediately. If you can see your underwear, no. if it barely covers your undies, no. Put your hands down to your side and if it comes above your middle finger, probably not. Bermudas are okay. Capris, or mormon shorts as I call them, are AWESOME! biggrin
