I really want to be able to draw my Anime sketches on the computer without using MS Paint. Are there any programs you guys would recommend to me that allows you to make you pictures on the computer.
And if you could answer; What does a drawing tablet do? Do you use it with MS Paint or another program?
If you have anything that helps you, please say it in a comment on this post smile
My 17th birthday is on Thursday and I know I am getting alot of money so this stuff will help me decide what I will buy smile
Thanks everyone smile

Well, I have a Wacom tablet.
A tablet is.. wow, hard for me to explain. A pen, and a pad. Anything you do on the pad with your pen is like writing, drawing, moving... on paper. But more advance. ^.^
A pad in which you can control the cursor with a pen. Not only that, you can set the pen and the options on the tablet to do specific things like.
For MS Paint. Set the eraser to the end tip of the pen. When you turn the pen on end tip (like a pencil) it would erase.
I use the tablet for anything, opening files, moving files, playing other games like gaia's BUMP *very fast!*
It does get getting use to a tablet. I was so use to looking down at my tablet when i should be looking at the screen. I am used to drawing on paper. sad very hard to break.
Software: I have photoshop cs3. Latest and Newest is CS4 but these things are a lot of money. I believe there is Photoshop elements for $100, more or less. But, many tools that are in Cs3 and Cs4 may not be included. But, it is still as good (as I have heard).
I am not too big on how to explain stuff, and my software.

As far as programs go, I would recommend getting OpenCanvas, the newest version (if possible), because it is usually cheaper than Photoshop, has roughly the same commands, and it is more drawing oriented than photo oriented. I also find it easier to use, myself. Whatever you do, I highly recommend using your student ID to get a student discount, because almost all of these programs are really expensive and they usually do offer discounts for students. That's what I did~!

If you're tight on money (those tablets ain't cheap, lemme tell ya!), then try to find used or refurbished tablets. Also, opencanvas and photoshop are great, as people have already said. Just be sure to buy it as a student so that you get a huge discount. You can also try downloading GIMP which is a free drawing/photo editing software that a lot of people also use instead of photoshop or opencanvas. I hope that helps!

Free stuff? GIMP, free, no trial version of Twisted Brush... Lots of stuff! Just search for free art programs. I love GIMP and TwistedBrush. Both amazing! Basically whatever you like/want. :] I personally don't care for PS, because it doesn't let you icon preveiw the brushes, not sure if it has a tab thing for them too... D:
